Appears to be rules of FA Cup….hotel costs if over 3 hrs away.

Note that this doesn't seems to account for the prize money they are guaranteed for the second round.

So they will still make a decent wedge from defeating the quarterz, but the game itself is basically covering its own costs.

Pity Plymouth and Carlisle then.

 

I reckon some clubs must show a loss then for early rounds of the Papa John or whatever it's called this year. Small attendances, floodlights on plus the other operating costs.

FA vase clubs have to give a sum of money to cover other teams travel expenses.

Help out at a club in Manchester roughly gates of 120 and have to pay % towards travel after expenses. Apart from prize money and bar don’t make anything from home games.

I’m guessing it’s being it’s a fixture unlike the league where you’ll play each other home and away, so rather than the luck of the draw and meaning you have to pay just because you got drawn away. Picture a step 2 or lower non league team being drawn away and having to pay costs themselves.
