Stop the Clock! Should the Football League follow suit?

Rugby use the TMO for timekeeping as well as well reviewing tries/infringements. No reason why a similar system couldn’t be adapted to football.

The match referees watches calibrated to those of the TMO - I can’t see any reason why not.

We'll have a total of 30 minutes added on each game then! And then of course the added on time in added on time too

15-30 anyway probably a good range.

Maybe it'll disincentivise time wasting and faking injuries to eat up time, disrupt flow- that's the idea anyway I expect.

I'd like to see the stopped referees clock linked to the big screens so that everyone can see when the clock is stopped.

Perhaps the ref could use a time out signal as in rugby - and be miked up to the P A  as well to explain his decisions!

Maybe then there'll be time for us to be awarded a penalty ?

13:56 extra in a typical Championship game then on average?

There were 11 added minutes on Saturday: 4 first half and 7 second half, so we aren’t far off already!

That 13:56 is on top of the actual injury time, 7:23 on average.  So a 90 min game 111:19 long….21:19 of added time if the clock was stopped in a similar vain to the WC!

That's WAY too sensible for this sport.

If they stop the clock properly, they surely have to go down the 60 minutes ball in play route .
That would equate to slightly more football actually played, without the game leaking into Sunday Mornings.

The key is not to confuse this being ball in play time, it's for stoppages in play - injuries etc

I guess it comes down to how strict they are and what they are strict about. Stoppages in play , throw ins or like Goalkicks ,where the keeper wanders from side to side, decide he doesn't want to go short and waves the defenders away and bang a minute or two have gone.
Injuries are supposed to be stopped for anyway aren't they, though Refs seem very free and easy with the time keeping.
They have to do something.
