Mr Popodopolous Posted January 17, 2023 Posted January 17, 2023 If there is already a thread feel free to merge. Basically the Premier League next season are set to stop the clock for each stoppage following the system we saw in the WC to get a true amount of stoppage time. https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/21072457/world-cup-time-premier-league-season-rules/ Apologies for the source, if other articles on it etc. 2 Quote
Robbored Posted January 17, 2023 Posted January 17, 2023 Rugby use the TMO for timekeeping as well as well reviewing tries/infringements. No reason why a similar system couldn’t be adapted to football. The match referees watches calibrated to those of the TMO - I can’t see any reason why not. Quote
Red-Robbo Posted January 17, 2023 Posted January 17, 2023 Thought they must've done that on Saturday, judging by the bizarre 7 minutes of added time. Quote
TammyAB Posted January 17, 2023 Posted January 17, 2023 We'll have a total of 30 minutes added on each game then! And then of course the added on time in added on time too 1 Quote
Numero Uno Posted January 17, 2023 Posted January 17, 2023 If we’re winning 1-0 no, losing 1-0 yes. Quote

Maybe it'll disincentivise time wasting and faking injuries to eat up time, disrupt flow- that's the idea anyway I expect. 1 Quote

beaverface Posted January 17, 2023 Posted January 17, 2023 (edited) I'd like to see the stopped referees clock linked to the big screens so that everyone can see when the clock is stopped. Edited January 17, 2023 by beaverface 5 2 Quote
Ronnie Sinclair Posted January 17, 2023 Posted January 17, 2023 Imagine the amount of 'L-L' on the classified football results if this happens, they'd be better off not reading them out until half 5 Quote
Keep the Faith Posted January 17, 2023 Posted January 17, 2023 It was hard enough getting my 4 year old to sit still for 95 mins on Saturday! Quote
bcfcredandwhite Posted January 17, 2023 Posted January 17, 2023 Well we’d get better value for money for our entrance fee…!! 1 Quote

Perhaps the ref could use a time out signal as in rugby - and be miked up to the P A as well to explain his decisions! 1 Quote
marcofisher Posted January 17, 2023 Posted January 17, 2023 Not that I don't agree with it, but that extra time will increase player workload in an already packed schedule. This needs to happen alongside a review of how much football is played. Quote
Donny T Posted January 17, 2023 Posted January 17, 2023 If they keep stopping the clock most of the dolman would of left by 30 mins 1 1 Quote

That 13:56 is on top of the actual injury time, 7:23 on average. So a 90 min game 111:19 long….21:19 of added time if the clock was stopped in a similar vain to the WC! Quote

If they stop the clock properly, they surely have to go down the 60 minutes ball in play route . That would equate to slightly more football actually played, without the game leaking into Sunday Mornings. Quote

The key is not to confuse this being ball in play time, it's for stoppages in play - injuries etc 1 Quote

Stoppages in play , throw ins or like Goalkicks ,where the keeper wanders from side to side, decide he doesn't want to go short and waves the defenders away and bang a minute or two have gone. Injuries are supposed to be stopped for anyway aren't they, though Refs seem very free and easy with the time keeping. They have to do something. Quote
