Four of the bottom five play each other, so Blackpool v Rotherham & Wigan v Huddersfield, Cardiff are home to Middlesbrough.

Even a point today could see us pull away from the bottom three.

I'm pretty sure we can go 13th today if we win and Swansea, Reading, QPR and Coventry all lose. We'd have better GD than all of them so would be level with Swansea and QPR on 39 points, but above on GD.

I think you know what i mean...!

We are as close to the playoffs as we are the relegation places - so we should be looking upwards, not downwards.

Tough challenge today but a win would see us just 3pts behind Norwich after 30 games played.

Potentially only 5 points off the play offs.

A win today would be massive, with some winable games coming up - stranger things have happened..!

No, I do and I agree. I think we’re a better team than the league position suggests, and I certainly think we should be looking up rather than down. The next week for me is huge - 6 points from the two home games and we’re right in the mix.

Forget the other teams matches.

It's up to City squad and manager/coaches to climb up the ladder of safety.

If City win today can I apologise in advance for all my playoff chat on OTIB....

There's no way City are going down now.

It is funny though  we won't go up or down just enjoy the rest of the season.

I’m happy enough where City right now. Nige seems to be gradually developing a healthy culture throughout the club and in recent games that’s been reflected on the pitch with some decent performances.

Norwich will be aware of our recent form and with them coming off a 3-0 loss an early goal will hopefully demoralise them.

Nothing is achieved in February but with 17 more matches any club hitting a run of good form can shoot up the table - let’s hope that it’s City.

We are 8 points off the playoffs - that has to be our aim.

I see today as a must win match if we are to stand a chance of the playoffs. A win would put us 3 points behind Norwich and 5 points behind WBA who are currently 6th.

That's fine, but can we leave the disappointment at the door if we don't?

I wish we didn't get ahead of ourselves when things are going well and so down when things aren't as good.

Absolutely.

Completely mad to even be thinking about the playoffs, in my opinion.

We have a squad of barely 20 players & at Xmas some on here wanted the manager sacked, predicted relegation & said Rovers were catching us..

I might be proved wrong but I genuinely don't think there will be much reaction if we lost today. I don't think expectations are that high even with our improved form.

It's mad to expect playoffs, but it's fun to chat about while we're on a good run imo.

Every win we’re talking about the playoffs

Every defeat and it’s relegation and doom and gloom.

We are Bristol City - it’s what we do ?

In all seriousness though, this league is so tight that either is mathematically possible, but neither are very likely.

Healthy culture, positive attractive football......

There must be a point in the future when that's not enough, and we demand more than play offs..... or sack everyone!

We are Bristol City - it's what we will do ?

I'm not accusing the poster, but I can imagine this would be some people's way of getting back at Nigel again

as in we should be top 6.

I totally agree with you, this sort of talk this season is a nonsense.

And the minute enough people start to say things like this, we know what kind of run can turn up.

Unlikely to go up or down, positive to be able to play with the pressure off whilst continuing to develop. We can dream and if we add a string of wins, we can start to believe but it’s important to be realistic, an 8 point gap is steep when chasing teams at the top end of the table.

This season, to stay up and cut costs whilst developing the youngsters we have will be a success.

That type of person will never be satisfied. They'll always be thinking that because we achieve one goal, we "should" then achieve the next. Even if we one day win the Champions League we won't win it well enough.

Pretty sure I said 11th as a pre-season prediction. With a bit of luck that's doable, much higher than that would be impressive/very lucky.

I don't even think we'll need 14. I reckon 46 or 47 or so will see a team safe this season.

We are 11th on goal difference I think so certainly that position should be achievable

Yeah I agree. Maybe 48. Certainly 50 will be safe.  Regardless, worrying about the bottom 5 is a bit beneath us…..literally!

A classic along with ‘I can’t see where the next win is coming from’.

…….which ranks as the most stupid statement regularly seen on here. I suppose if people say it enough they’ll be right some time in the next 50 years.

Let's just enjoy the ride. We aren't going down so just enjoy it.

We are up against a Parachute payment club today so let's not panic if we do lose. Personally, I think we can give them a game which, as we've been extremely frugal for a couple of years, is immense credit to big Nige.

COYR, CTID.

Quite right...from where we sit right now, should we be relegated then it would be well deserved....

Won't be happening though.

I’d probably settle for a point today.
Norwich still have some dangerous players for this level , it extends unbeaten run and momentum, out ultimate game is survival sooner we achieve that the better , then we can start being more expansive and expressing ourselves a little more.

Agree with this. If we are playing championship football next season....I'll consider this a good season.

Yeah, I get what you're saying it's just worrying. Better to be realistic and then pleasantly surprised if things come good.

That said, I genuinely think we are at least 5 or 6 points behind what we deserve this season based on the performances, decisions that have gone against us and annoying mistakes that shouldn't have happened.

I'm optimistic, but I always have been. But I won't be disappointed if we don't continue this run. Norwich are still one of the best sides in the division.

Love it.

7 points behind 6th, a game in hand, and unbeaten in 2023...

I think we know that is possible.

Unlikely.

But absolutely possible.

It just feels like we are now getting the rewards we didn't get earlier in the season. We deserve this run.

And I'm buzzing, for Nige, for the lads and for us. Feels great.

Totally agree. We looked organised, dynamic and hungry.

That was a seriously tough game but we worked hard and got we deserved.
