Jerseybean
Interesting article about opportunities to sign players from Ireland with Sykes noted as an example…..https://www.portsmouth.co.uk/sport/football/portsmouth-fc/portsmouth-boss-identifies-plundering-market-which-has-unearthed-burnley-bristol-city-and-cardiff-city-gems-at-oxford-united-4040102?fbclid=IwAR3I-3DcPx38oTHnEtXQRD_XcG01uHwaUxgeL8X75dPrRRooIP17gD0Q5Tc

RoystonFoote'snephew
The last time (I think) we brought players across direct from Ireland was the duo of Rory Holden and Jimmy Keohane. Didn't work out for us although they have carved out careers in the lower leagues.

I didn’t realise he was 32, assumed (wrongly) from what you’d put that he’d come over with Holden. Got to say, I was pretty part-time around then (2010), so not surprised he passed me by. Patrick Hoban was the other Irish signing alongside Keohane.

Pretty sure it was under Coppell who had a track record at Reading of Irish signings. Unfortunately in keeping with nearly every signing he made with us, they weren’t any good.

As @Davefevs alludes to the CTA means that it’s now the only place in Europe that we’re not now at a huge disadvantage post Brexit. https://news.sky.com/story/how-brexit-is-helping-european-clubs-beat-uk-giants-to-some-top-talent-12813748
