Port Said Red
Potentially a very young team and squad today for their top of the table clash with Millwall at Ashton Gate. With so many out on loan and possibly added to the first team squad tonight, they will be looking to the U18's again. https://www.bcfc.co.uk/news/top-of-table-u21s-clash-at-ashton-gate/ 1pm kick off, if anyone is tempted. They look nailed on to reach the end of season play offs again though. Sheffield Utd are running away with the North group, but the other team could come from one of a number of teams. grifty
Could someone like Knight-Lebel be on the bench for the first team today?

OTC and Possibly Marlee Francois in Yorkshire then?

Silvio Dante
I reckon I’m closer to the first team reckoning than Duncan Idehen at this point.

Port Said Red
End to End by the sound of it, I was on my way down, only for a mini family emergency to get in the way.

Think with a year left on his contract we’ll be having a conversation with him this summer about what he wants to do. With only 1 natural central defender fit, he doesn’t even make the bench tonight. Just like Sam Pearson, his time with us is up.

You wonder what’s gone on there as clearly there is ability but Grimsby got rid and he got what would have been the move of a lifetime to us at three divisions higher (at the time). It’s hard to avoid the conclusion he might have gone Billy big bollocks after his breakthrough last season and that’s then been followed with a poor loan at Carlisle. Looks to be attitude as opposed to ability to me. Pearson - agree. Think the opposite reason here, nobody can argue he’s done the loan hard yards (although IIRC didn’t he come back from Scotland due to family reasons) but not showing signs of being at the standard from his spells. See the U23 cull this summer being Pearson, Idehen, Owers, Morton and Buse.

My only issue with him is that he doesn't seem to have grown. If Haikin stays then it makes sense as we have Wiles-Richard and Mr Big House, in the next wave. I think he had a good spell at Taunton but unless I’m wrong he hasn’t got in the Yeovil side. So the loan spell (although good) was at Southern League level. That plays into my thinking - although GK can mature later, not playing above Southern League at 21 doesn’t scream “keep”

Don’t know enough about Buse to comment but think the others are nailed on to go & believe that Morton has already effectively left anyway. Idehen is an odd one, Grimsby fans reckon it was the change of manager & their relegation to non league that did for him & he was ok. He then had a couple of sub appearances for us late last season where he let no one down, but whether it was by acting Mr Big Time or not, it’s all gone badly wrong for him since. His loan spell at Carlisle (fresh start, other end of the country) saw him dropped from the bench pretty quickly, which even if you could understand him not getting in a side going really well, is a bad sign. Just can’t see a way back for him if he isn’t involved at a time like this.

It’s a bit of a bizarre one as I think he’d provisionally (if not totally) agreed to re-sign with Taunton for the season, then Yeovil came in and City nixed the Taunton loan and authorised the Yeovil one. From City’s perspective I get it - if he could compete with and get in ahead of Smith at National League level, it’s better than a season at National League South. I’d imagine they also thought that if he couldn’t get in the Yeovil side (irrespective of how good Smith is) it probably made their minds up as to any future here. On the GK front, my sons just been told his new GK coach is James Walker. I didn’t see we’d released him in the summer (assumed we had but last news was loan to Guernsey). Looks to be Chippenhams back up now.
Gillies Downs Leeds
Is your son in the City academy @Silvio Dante? I know that Aaron Sainsbury coaches some of the academy keepers. He himself used to be an Academy keeper but is now Paulton Rovers number 1. Edited March 7, 2023 by Gillies Downs Leeds

He’s not bad, one of these where he’s probably just below academy standard but if got into system could grow into it. Just taking it for what it is and him enjoying it is most important. I think what they do in the academy is really good - I think they supported Sainsbury in getting qualifications and his height went against him as a pro, but they set him up to be involved in future. From speaking to parents who have kids in the academy they place a lot of weight on not easing up on education - that in itself I would imagine drives good characters. 1
