Never to the dark side
First train out of temple meads is the 09:40am and its normally one of the three coach units arriving at 11:29am with a change at Cardiff Suggest getting your rear ends up to bristol parkway for the 08:58am and it should be a big train (and looks like it starts from bristol parkway) by using public transport or get some one to drop you off at Bristol Parkway, please don't take your car to Bristol Parkway as parking is very expensive The saver fare is £42:40p,BUT if you split tickets at Cardiff it will cost Parson Street(and BTM) to cardiff £14:70p cardiff to Swansea £11:10p These split tickets are turn up on the day fares,no need for reservation Group save is also available 3 person travel for the price of two If you request a smart card from GWR,the tickets are stored on the card and can also be used if you also use cross crountry trains Think of your environment, these smart cards will stop those orange tickets needing to be printed 1

If strike is cancelled, I may still re-consider and go on the train
East Londoner
Also getting the train last year saw us kettled outside the station before being herded onto buses (unlike Swansea who get the freedom of Bristol when they come here) which were nowhere when it was pouring with rain after the game Edited March 9 by East Londoner Typo
Rocking Red Cyril
When I done Swansea away in the past doive or coach. Did go by train years back to Glamorgan v Somerset, John Player league in Swansea. weepywall
Went to Cardiff last week and after that experience I won't be rushing back to Wales for a game, treated like a herd of cattle, can't get a pint anywhere except for the overpriced crap at the ground, you feel like a criminal for daring to go to a football match and as others have said when Cardiff and Swansea come here they go pretty much anywhere they want Inc Swansea drinking on the waterfront on a Friday afternoon fairly recently.

Exactly this. Cardiff smashed up the toilets in the ground last season causing thousands of pounds of damage yet still get a free roam of Bristol. Meanwhile we were even denied entry to a Wetherspoons in Newport last weekend who had 2 bouncers on the door from 8am ready for us, luckily another pub was open at 9am that did let us in. If Avon and Somerset treated the Welsh how we get it off the Heddlu year on year they would be crying their eyes out about it being anti-Welsh xenophobia, and no doubt it would be all over “Wales Online”.

Around 40 of us got into Gatekeeper Wetherspoons on Westgate street from 0900. Chepstow, Caldicot, FOD, Gloucester chaps. Not wrapped up like Bristol trains were. Always an option to get off at Severn Tunnel and get on Train from Birmingham Had a good drink and went mainly unnoticed as we were split over 2 floors on 10 different tables. There is a drink there if you plan ahead and don’t follow the herd.

Packman
I've been to Cardiff several times over the years and never had any problems getting a drink before or after the game, just have to be sensible. Don't walk with the crowd and don't try getting in pubs with doormen on. Went for a pint in the cambrian tap on the High Street before the game then went to several bars after the game before getting a train home about 9 o'clock. It's really shit, got to Cardiff and was told there were buses, didn't want to go to the ground and would have liked to have a look around the city. Walked off under the bridge only to be met by a bunch of hedlu intent on aggressively pushed everyone around, no one knew what was going on and for asking you got a nice strong push from a copper saying "don't spoil your day". It's already spoilt because of you! Then we were marched to the ground! What's the point in going to an away game if all you get to see is the lego stadium.

We were in the same spoons in Newport last season though and there weren’t many other city fans in there, there were no issues or trouble so not sure what their problem was this time. I’m surprised that one in Cardiff didn’t have bouncers on the doors as well.

It did have 2 bouncers, on both doors majority of us were asked where from, some of us walked in while others were being questioned. Only 8 were from Bristol and they got in no problem by saying they were shopping as they had daughters with them it was only when we all gathered to leave in our Taxis that bouncers realised how many of us were in there and that we had pulled their pants right down. They were fine about it and off we went. .

Got to keep away from the main Happy Clappers/Choirboys, keep a low profile, no colours (bit of S.Island maybe), enjoy a good drink prematch. Everyone knew the OB were gonna keep you out the pubs in Cardiff again. Common sense. Edited March 10 by fisherrich

Never to the dark side
Can I just say that if you reserve your seats in advance on the 08:58am, this could tumble the GWR computer to think there are a hell of a lot of persons travelling on that 08:58. Maybe we(the computer says) should think about putting a football special on. BUY YOUR TICKETS IN ADVANCE,PLEASE.

Olé
Fair warning if you're getting the 950 from Parkway that it is already over half an hour late due to signalling at Didcot, has been without heating since London, and cannot sell food or drink. Brilliant success.

Never to the dark side
Not sure of the numbers on the football specials to and from Swansea, but can all those who did use the service and those who didn't, send a tweet to Great West western railway saying thank you for laying on the special train, With Cardiff and Swansea and ourselves being in the same division next year, similar specials might be arranged With Plymouth in a good position and possibly Bournemouth and Saints being relegated more footy specials could be on the way Send the tweet now before you forget, and I hope you all got your tickets issued from Parson Street
