Alex Scott - £25m to Bournemouth- Confirmed

Recommended Posts

Suggestion about Scott .

If Raya goes thst will improve Brentford's finances yet further. Finishing 9th in PL won't hurt either. (£30m pre tax profit in 2021-22).

They are a relatively progressive side although varies depending on opposition, home away etc. In that respect only they are a bit like Bolton under Big Sam at their best. ie at home vs middling and lower sides go for it more. I digress.

They're steadily moving towards a 4-3-3 as a first choice set-up. Could Scott slot into this? I'd argue they haven't fully replaced Eriksen, that creative presence in the middle of the 3- I wonder.

Brentford have offered 30m for Brennan Johnson.

Wow…..didn’t see that coming!!!

Going to be lots of twists and turns during the window - as others have said, if Scotty does go, can see it being right at the end of the window.

One thing is for sure, if this were to happen, I’d have every confidence in NP and Tinns having a replacement fully lined up…..unlike when we lost Webster!

I wonder if a deal’s already been done but they won’t announce it until we finish our transfer business.

If Scott went now, we’d be paying a premium on any future transfer.

As long as Scott is with his new club by preseason, any announcement before then would be pretty irrelevant for a premier league club.

Think it will be interesting to see which premier league teams are willing to spend £20+ million on a player that might not be quite ready to hit the ground running in the prem. You could say they could loan him out but it's a big wedge for a lot of the prem teams to be able to do that. They will be after players that can hit the ground running.

The better bet if i was Alex would be to follow the Bellingham route and go to Dortmund if they were to show interest.

Very, puzzled as to why Brighton are seemingly keen to sign Gallagher when Scott seems a far more worthwhile investment.

In fairness Gallagher is a proven player at that level.

There is bags of time yet, most teams aren't even back for a month .
I think it would be difficult to hide a done deal, but it could be done in principle I suppose.

I don't see much movement for a while.

Just checked, at age 19/20, Scott ahead of Gallagher in his development.

Gallagher currently 23, will turn 24 in February. His first team break wasn't until 2019-20, age 19.5 ir thereabouts. Scott was first team ready age 17/18.

I suppose if you are Brighton however you look at a player age 23, to turn 24- who can still grow but with PL and crucially for them European experience as well as Championsip obviously.

In respect of Scott, doesn't directly concern but news from Wolves- via Percy who is excellent. Unsure they will be bidding £25m or above for him as it stands.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2023/06/15/wolves-manager-news-julen-lopetegui-stay-future/

Quote

The former Spain and Real Madrid manager’s future had appeared in doubt after he expressed concerns over Wolves’s issues with Financial Fair Play, which will require players to be sold before he can buy new recruits.

Though Wolves will still be under some pressure to raise funds, with the futures of captain Ruben Neves, Maximilian Kilman, Nathan Collins and Daniel Podence unclear, Lopetegui is satisfied with the club’s plans.

Starting point.

Quote

Neves is a target for Barcelona while Wolves have already knocked back a £20 million proposal from Brentford for Collins, the Republic of Ireland international. Former captain Conor Coady was at Everton last season on loan but will be reintegrated into the first team while winger Ryan Giles, who impressed on loan at Middlesbrough, will also be given a chance to stake a claim. It is also understood that any new signings will be in the £8-15 million bracket, following a £200 million spend last season under owners Fosun.

That alone as it stands rules out Scott to Wolves- well below our aksing price.

Quote

How has it got to this point?

Wolves spent nearly £200 million last season and are under pressure to raise funds to avoid future FFP breaches. With no major sales apart from Morgan Gibbs-White’s £25 million move to Nottingham Forest and Leander Dendoncker’s £12 million switch to Aston Villa, Wolves cannot continue to operate in this way considering their commercial revenue in comparison to bigger clubs. Quite simply, Wolves have to lower their cost base. Lopetegui was informed of the club’s summer strategy towards the end of the season and, clearly, was not expecting it. He has spent the last three weeks reflecting on his future, returning to his home in Spain, and maintained regular contact with Hobbs.

The present and the future- Future Financial Information requirements perhaps kicking in.

Quote

What will Wolves do this summer?

Wolves spent over £40 million on Matheus Cunha and Matheus Nunes last season, but will not be paying anywhere near that on transfer fees this time. They intend to pay around the £8-15 million mark, focusing on young talent and with a determination to find unpolished gems. Joao Gomes, a January signing from Flamengo, is the perfect profile of player they will be targeting. While Lopetegui knows the parameters of the project have changed, he is committed. There is undoubtedly pressure on Hobbs and his recruitment team to be creative in the market and build a squad capable of challenging in the Premier League.

Yet Scott rather fits that- the young talent, albeit the price is a real mismatch.

Quote

Could the situation change?

This will depend on how much money can be raised through player sales. A number of squad members could depart this summer and it is not inconceivable that upwards of £80 million could be brought in, if they find buyers. Neves is available for around £45 million, while the likes of Podence, Jose Sa and Rayan Ait-Nouri will also be free to go. Collins and Kilman are regarded as key players to Wolves’s future but, equally, have a price. It is still unlikely, however, that Wolves will be spending big money this summer even if they bring in millions of pounds through sales. The brakes need to be applied to balance the books.

This is a factor- huge incoming fees and the dial may move albeit they will have to balance that with the cost base not rising again. which may give pause.

Worth noting too that the mooted potential £80m+ is still gross not net- the net figure is the profit and will be tied to their current book value. Fee - Current Net Book Value=Profit or Loss on Disposal. Plus net of any sell-on fees.

Then new additions although spread out will bring their own costs.

Condensed Version Wolves while not maxing out, certainly stretched their credit card quite far which means a move for Scott looks less than likely at our preferred price.

According to TransferMarkt, which can be a bit dodgy with player values but still, Alex is the most valuable player in the championship. (Discounting the relegated prem teams.)

Still very early in the window but I think we will get offers that match or are over our valuation by the time the window ends.

I would like to think so, the market moves quickly though.

Can work both ways, moves can come around quickly again or it's the case that sides can think "£25m? Hmm- bit of a risk".

Expect Levy to lowball us or try to- at least initially. He has form for it.

Reportedly preparing a bid for Maddisonn and Barnes. £50m the pair.
