This was always going to be the way Wolves solved their FFP problems.

I think Scott is very high up their list of targets, Lopetegui’s description above of the type of player he was interested in is an exact fit.

No way will we drop the asking price to £15m & I can’t see any likely Wolves players who they would want to shift that we could also afford & would want to make up any shortfall.

Their move, I think.

Read differing things about the size of their FFP hole but this will help a lot.

Will free up funds for Wolves, will be interesting to see if this changes their mooted strategy of signing players in the £8-15m bracket or if they will now be more flexible.

They might decide to open the betting if there's a chance they are interested. Someone has too - do they not realise we're at 38 pages ATM: we'll pass the Joe Bryan thread post count soon if we aren't careful.

I wonder what the first bid will be and by whom. That could spark the wider interest and perhaps a bidding war.

Once we get one bid, the rest will follow - sense the first team to lodge an offer will be Wolves

Agreed, it’s who blinks first now. A bidding war is great from our perspective and we just get as much as we can for him.

We’ve been clear it’s £25m, but is that like a starting bid on eBay? How high do you think it could go? £30m? £40m? Or perhaps all the same level but different terms for Alex or sell on clauses for us?

Buying team will say they got him for £20m, we will say we sold him for £30m.

I’m not a great believer that bidding wars really materialise, it’s not like an auction.

At some point a club or multiple clubs will meet the required fee, and it really then becomes about who Alex wants to join.

A lot of the replies on there are suggesting him, more mentions than any other player.

They were once totally convinced Tammy Abraham was going to them after his loan here too.

Wolves about to cash in on Neves which firstly means they will have money to spend and secondly will be looking for a replacement…

And for big money too despite only one year left on his deal. So, yeah, so long as their financial troubles aren’t really bad, they you’d imagine they will try to bid for Alex soon.

John Percy did a report recently which intimated that Wolves plan was targeting players in the £8-15m bracket. With FFP in mind and he mentioned varied departures too.

Now perhaps Neves going for £47m, the bulk of which will be profit changes this. Moves this dial but think before they're in a position to do heavy lifting again more will be required.

They did lose £46m in 2021-22 despite a profit on transfers, despite finishing top half in PL. Before spending £150-200m on additions last season, and sakxijf Lage may have cost. Otoh Gibbs-White pure profit, maybe a profit on Dedoncker too.

I can't see how Neves going  changes Wolves' stance on transfers. They are up sag creek as far as money is concerned and have to cut their cloth accordingly. Spunking all of the surplus cash on one player when they need several just isn't an option.

Maybe but I'd be amazed if they didn't make some sort of offer.

In which case, if we turn it down there's a danger of the player saying - you didn't let me go in January but I'd like my move to the Prem now please.

And we get into a stand off or, at the very least, have an unhappy player in the building.

I'm not suggesting we'll accept any old offer but all this talk of 25 million is nonsense - that's our opening gambit in the inevitable negotiations we'll be having with one or more clubs. We've gone high. The buying club will go low. And a deal is struck somewhere in between. But it won't be 25M, imo.

If Wolves offer 15M, I think we'll do a deal - with add-ons increasing that to a bit more further down the line.

That allows us to crack on with the recruitment we've been waiting several windows for.

There will only be a bidding war if multiple clubs don’t meet the valuation.

If two or more clubs do meet the valuation then  Alex has a choice of who to go to based upon preference and/or personal terms OR say no I have a contract I am staying.

But finished by saying he would benefit by staying here for another season.

I actually somewhat agree with that analysis from a footballing perspective, ha maybe it's wishful thinking but think one more year, in an environment he knows, in a developing and improving side who have strengthened again in the summer.

Problem is that unless he extends by one more year then we run the risk of getting somewhat less the  we should- unless he fires us to promotion.
