Brighton with a late bid:

Chelsea will this week make an improved bid of more than £70m for Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo, with the 21-year-old Ecuador international having already agreed personal terms with the Blues. (Standard)

I never understand how this is allowed to happen.  I thought you couldn't talk to a player until a bid had been accepted - surely that should apply to their agents/representatives too?

I think this might have already been discussed...

One that could have legs if Caicedo leaves, I wonder if Khadra could be part of a deal???

They’re only technically allowed to speak to the player with Brighton’s permission. In this case, I imagine that there may have been a gentleman’s agreement as part of the new deal signed earlier this year

60 games, 4 goals and released 2 years before his contract ended. Not great for Palace!

Slightly misleading...

66 appearances over 2 seasons before Palace went into administration. He mutually terminated the remainder of his contract as they couldn't afford his wages.

Brighton now linked with Cole Palmer on loan which may push Scott further down the list.

West Ham hard to say, their approach seems somewhat varied and scattergun? Goretzka the latest name linked.

Was he ever on their list

One more West Ham thing, surely can't be right.

Suggestions that they might be struggling with FFP but that doesn't account for Aston Villa or even arguably Bournemouth. Maybe it's UEFA not PL FFP if the snippet is to be believed but they've just sold Rice for £100m, pure profit??

Pertinent about that to us is that The Athletic says no approach by them for Alex Scott.

Weren't they on the UEFA watch list last season? Any breach would be historic so the Rice sale wouldn't come into it presumably.

From todays Times - nothing particularly new but haven’t seen them report on it before and the bit about compromising caught my eye:

‘Wolverhampton Wanderers are hopeful of reaching a compromise with Bristol City over Alex Scott after having a second bid rejected. Julen Lopetegui, the Wolves head coach, is keen to add the 19-year-old midfielder to his squad, but so far the club have had bids of £18 million and £20 million rejected by the Sky Bet Championship side.

Bristol City value the teenager, who was named Championship Young Player of the Year last season, at about £25 million, but it is understood that Wolves are confident a compromise can be reached. They are also in talks with Borussia Mönchengladbach over the centre back, Nico Elvedi. The 26-year-old can also play at right back, so would replace Nathan Collins, who joined Brentford for £23 million this summer.’

We can compromise at £25M.

That's the starting point, you've forgot the 25% sell on clause

the 3 million for reaching 40 appearances the 10 million for 1 International cap

5 million for qualifying for Europe

? too much football manager

As you know from my earlier comments I agree it's the start point. I suspect a 20% sell on is more realistic. Other payments to be negotiated.

15 percent just feels like a fairly standard industry type number for this sort of transfer, could be wrong of course but I realistically query how much higher it can be.

Scott starting today,so nothing happening soon.

Touting only because the management realise what a gem Scott is.

To keep him much longer denies him the improvement he'll get from playing in the Premiership. The rest of the squad probably isn't good enough to make a real challenge yet even though many fans are feeling quite confident.

So we are looking to sell him for top current price to be able to recruit maybe two or three more who will improve us considerably.

So we lose an apparently top of the range player to increase the quality of the rest of the squad.

To keep him, ultimately, against his will will be disastrous. Scott will never be an Atyeo, staying here for his whole career. If we are to survive as a club long term, it has to be in the Prem and we should stop allowing the things like Luton to make a mint instead of us!

This thread is quite busy, so if I make the point that someone else has already made then sorry.

Another factor that people overlook is the signing of kids in all this. If you were a young player who wanted to have a career in the game and had the choice of a few academy sides, one of the pulls for Bristol City must now be, 'We'll train you well, we'll help you develop, we'll offer a pathway to the first team squad' followed by.... 'And when you exceed our expectations, and clubs come in for you, we'll not stand in your way so where better to start your journey than with us?'

He'll start until a bid is accepted,

It also says to me anyway that a deal isn't close,

Can do nothing but praise Scott's professionalism, its remarkable for a lad his age ?

Interesting comments on talksport. Crooks thinks Bournemouth will come back in rather than Wolves which is the first I have heard that.

( I realise talksport is rubbish. I’m still waiting for Grabban to sign)

Like the Brian Clough approach to compromise.

" we talk about it for 20 minutes and then agree I was right"

One of my favorites!

Another one is the session on crossing that he had with John Robertson first thing on a Monday after a poor performance the previous Saturday!

The other day he was saying Bournemouth were the only interested party at 15 million. Bournemouth probably got him to say that.

Don't like him after that. Rubbish thing is if we go up, he'll probably be allocated to cover us as he is southern based. Not sure he's going to find himself too welcome at Ashton Gate after that.

crooks is allocated because he is their chief football correspondent. whether that carries any weight with you is personal opinion but furnishing yourself with the facts goes both ways

See that Bournemouth have just got a new left back in, the position LK was playing mainly last season.

He can play at CB or LB really as we know. Could even alternate between them a bit with Kelly as LB playing narrower some games and the new LB more orthodox for certain games.

A name mentioned on here from Wolves was the goalie Sarkic, his move to Stoke has been called off despite a fee being agreed last week. Wonder whether he is now being used to bridge the gap in valuation between us and them?

Interesting. Fee was reported as £1.25m, had a medical then failed to agree personal terms at the last min apparently.

Makes me wonder if some clubs get stubborn and don't pay 25m and we hold onto Scott. If or how much his value could change in January,

More , in my opinion, and we will know if a promotion push is on or just a pipe dream

Will all depend on how well or badly we and he are doing.
If we’re 8 points clear and he’s contributing goals and assists most weeks then we won’t be selling. In that case I’d assume he signs a new contract with us with a release clause in case we bottle it.

If we’re bottom half and he’s not really contributing then we could get a real low offer.
