I am not disputing for one moment that money wouldn't or couldn't be available without affecting FFP etc. What worries me is we still have posters/fans who think we should never sell anyone like Webster, Kelly, Brownhill, Reid, Bryan, Semenyo etc etc and we are not ambitious enough as we are a selling club. Where do these people think we would be without selling them.

I still hear from some people (not on here) that Lansdown don't spend enough, isn't ambitious enough, what players we should just go out and just buy, what players we should never sell, these same people will still moan that NP over the first couple of years never did enough without even realising the situation he/we were in.

All am saying is we can push it a bit more but not too much.

Certainly agree on the 2nd part.

I get the impression that for many fans of promoted clubs,  the getting to the Premier League journey is far more enjoyable than actually being there!

It will probably start losing it's appeal the moment season ticket prices are announced :).

I'm quite happy to give it a season long trial though.

The last time I paid (correction, my mum paid) for me to watch City in the top flight, the entrance fee in the Schoolboys enclosure was 50p.

From what I have seen/ heard, and I am not in the know, Alex has not demanded a move, so with respect your argument is conjecture. Alex could equally be happy to spend a further season with us , and then review his options with our blessings should he wish to move on aka Harry Kane.

Who knows, but we should, imo, at least try

Isn’t that exactly what we (City) are doing?  Nige admitted this week that we’ve priced him high because we don’t want to sell.

Automatically there is a price increase by default before any other increases because there are 4 less home games.

Personally the thought of losing 8 matchdays a season doesn't feel me with excitement. However I'm sure the excitement of playing Man Utd, Liverpool, Arsenal etc every week will make up for it.

By the time City are promoted there will be a Europa Conference Division 3 South ensuring that all Premier League teams qualify for Europe and and meaning we have negotiate a complex fixture pile up with Thursday night games against the likes of the 8th best team from Luxembourg...

By this point Alex Scott will be playing in the European Super League.

Biggest hassle is the timing of the matches. If you're a regular away supporter it is mostly cheaper to watch a game in the PL than the Championship. 4 games less and with a higher percentage in London and the South also makes for cheaper travel costs.

You say that we probably still need a centre back, but do we?

We have Dickie, Vyner, Atkinson (hopefully coming back at Christmas) plus Roberts, McCrorie and Naismith who have all played there in the past. I think we have enough cover there.

Leaves two specialist CBs until Atkinson fit. Naismith and McRorie options for sure and Roberts I know come through as a CB. We are probably fine but if someone we like becomes available I think we should look.

Vyner future up in the air. How does Atkinson fair upon return? Dickie coming off a not so decent season what if he doesn’t find form again? Unlikely everything is a negative there but we need to keep looking forward imo.

I'd be quite happy to finish top - or win the play-offs, but stay in the Championship.

So, you’re happy for City to finish anywhere from first to twenty first in the league. You should put a bet on this as, I think, you’d have a good chance of winning

"Dear Premier League

Thank you so much for your kind offer, but we'll take a raincheck.

We've got 46 games in The Championship lined up for next season.

Kind regards

Bristol City

PS EFL rules"

I agree in that we need another CB. We went with same approach  that we will be ok in January where we tried for O’Brien after Klose was released. We ended up with Pring & Tanner playing CBs which we got away with as we probably knew we would be safe.  It was a risk worth taking at that time.

Think it would  be reckless to go into season with just 2 fit CBs & listening to presser today it’s unlikely we will see youngsters start early doors if at all.   Why would we take a risk going into a new season full of optimism?

Alex isn’t currently playing in league one; he probably is better than Bournemouth and why would he listen to any advice from his suitors? That’s like asking Red Riding Hood to listen to the Wolf.

I meant the Championship, as I think most people would have gathered. Why would Alex listen to his suitors ? If you don't think he would be listening to Bournemouth and their staff, agents etc, I would be amazed.

What concerns me is if he goes did I understand it correctly that we will not be using the money to replace him as we have already reached a wage ceiling. So lose your best player for a lot of money and spend none of it in bringing some sort of replacement and all this happening a few days before the start of the season. Perfect nightmare scenario. Have I got this right or have I had a bad dream trying to follow this saga.

I don't think the club are saying they will spend nothing, I think they are making it clear, there will be no knee jerk reactions and panic buys, rushing into getting people. It's likely his replacement in Knight was already signed, and the sale, may enable us to bring in a couple of squad players, who wont be commanding big wages, but we wont be going out to spend a war chest, and we will probably just look to a couple of already identified targets, who we may have already had soft approaches for, ie put the feelers out in regards to interested if Scott goes.

Alex a doubt for Saturday after picking up a knock in training. It’s hard not to be slightly suspicious.

Nah. No suspicion whatsoever.
Apparently he slightly strained his calf when he was doing his medical with Wolves! ?

I suspect - based on a hunch rather than me knowing anything whatsoever - that the plan has always been to get one more CB in but we are waiting to see what happens with Scott in order to see what the budget is before deciding whether we want to spend a fee on a League One or Two player with future potential or to get an out of contract defender who can do a job for the season. At the same time, I wonder if Araoye is giving the club pause for thought on that score.

Also, Naismith is back in training, so no need to panic either.

You wouldn't though would you. There are 6 possibly 7 decent games. The remainder would be against the likes of Luton, Bournemouth, Palace, Wolves. All teams that will come and sit deep to get a point or three.
