Wow - 17pts from 10 games and a very respectable 3rd in their group - yes, 2 wins against Liechtenstein helps but anyone know any reason for such a "good" campaign (I seem to remember them getting the odd draw or even win over the years but nothing like this time round)

I made the same observation, finishing ahead of Iceland and Bosnia. Seems they are no longer the automatic whipping boys they once were.

You could add Albania to that as well, used to get thrashed not so long ago and finished top of their group.

When Portugal joined the EU (1977) it was the poorest country in it at the time, so there was a large influx of Portuguese workers who went to Luxembourg, they still are a significant minority group in the country.

Their current squad includes Mica Pinto, Leandro Barreiro Martins, Gerson Rodrigues, Tiago Cardoso & James Rodrigues, a couple of others of Portuguese ancestry have also featured in recent squads.

Can’t have done them any harm to expand their pool of eligible players like this.

Iceland and Bosnia are not what they were a 5 years to a decade ago say however Luxembourg is this their Golden generation?

I believe they have a chance at qualifying via the playoffs what with Nations League paths.

Bosnia especially, with a prime Dzeko, Pjanic etc going back a decade would have challenged for top spot IMO.

Very forward thinking country. Free public transport for all. Free internet in Luxembourg City, and ultra cheap mobile network.

Seems they are ahead of the curve with their football as well.

They've got a long track record of producing good cyclists, too - amazingly for such a small country.
