Willem II (Tilburg) Link

Recommended Posts

Thought the boys that travelled over from the Netherlands for yesterday’s match were an absolute credit. Did not stop singing all game which made up for the lack of entertainment on the pitch. Some good new songs as well.

I’ve been aware of the link between fans of the two clubs for a long while now. Just wondered what’s the story there? How did it start?

We went over to Tilburg in February for a music festival but will definitely need to check out a Willem II match if we go again.

It all started when Chops daughter got friendly with Elko online.

Elko and Pierre came over and came to a game with us. A few months later 8 of us went to Tilburg to watch a 3-0 win against Groningen. We had a great time and were well looked after by the Willem boys.

The rest is history.

Goes to two people Elko De Jong who visited Bristol and the late great man Scooter. Some went over there with Elko to watch Willem II some came this way to watch City. In 2008 more came over for a City game and Scooter took 28 over for a trip and that grew from there with Scooter doing more trips which became popular to groups sometimes 100+ and now our kids go.

Shame the club have never organised a pre season friendly with Willem II considering the link with the fans. Would be a nice touch

The club have been made very much aware over the past 15 years of the link. Those in charge at Willem have been very open to dialogue and arranging some sort of official link but those at our end want nothing to do with it.

many thanks to the supporters from Tilburg, great support. It would be good to know the fixtures when you will attend in advance, I am sure I not the only one who would want to give you a special welcome. It would also be great to visit Brabant with other City fans. I noticed it was international fans day at Sunderland, something City might consider.

Pronouncing Willem II, suggestion

instead of villain tray …. villem tway

Please let's not drag that debate up again

Leave it to the fans to continue to arrange things independently, certainly works well as it is

There are quite some groups of our supporters making the trip throughout the year. And we always feel very welcome! And if one of you are “newbies” coming to Tilburg. Just let me know and I will make sure you get the same feeling when visiting a match of Willem II.

YOUR WORDS WERE @Red Army 75:  Would be a fantastic day for supporters of both clubs. Friendly in Tilburg , yes please

How do you think a friendly would be arranged in Tilburg without the club being involved???

Tough game tonight missed a penalty but equalised at the end of additional time

Just need to equal Roda's result next week to win the league

Last fixtures are

Groningen Vs Roda

Willem Vs Telstar

As I understand it, Roda fans invaded the pitch to celebrate going up, having been told over the tannoy Groningen had lost. They actually equalized on 95 min, and they both meet on the last day. Opps!
