Well I'm NOT happy with this news.

We may as well get Cureton as well - he's been released by QPR.

No gas at the Gate please.....

we could've had stewart before but WE turned him down so he went to the dark side but it's our badge tattoo'd on his leg not their gay camp pirate city.gif

Oh grow up, you sound like a spolit little rich kid.

Stewart is a quality player who could easily get into ANY Championship club, and probably a few Premiership ones.

Cureton is good at this level - nothing much more.

I'm neither spoilt or rich.

Just a lifelong City fan who hates the gas.

Can't you remember the way Stewart celebrated when he scored against us?

I'm assuming you are a City fan - well would you have done that? Would you have played for the gas in the first place if you were such a committed City fan as Stewart claims to be now he is deemed too old for the prem.

Be off with you...

I hate the gas just as much as the next person if not more...but Marcus Stewart is a Bristol City fan and is on the verge of seeing a boyhood dream come true and play for the club he loves.

Who cares if he played for the gas for a bit?

Not me, and nor should you.

Who doesn't hate the Gas!? They signed a decent promising local striker before City could do it. If you had an offer to make it as a Pro from Rovers would you tell them to bugger off because you support City? Of course you wouldn't, because theres a chance it may never happen.

Why the hell should we not go for a player because he's an ex Rovers player!? If Beckham, Rooney, Owen etc were all Gasheads would you say no to them as well?

Presumably you hate Danny Coles as well? He is a Gashead after all isn't he.

Edit: Phatwill also has it spot on chant6ez.gifcity.gif

I understand where your coming from, cos i hated it when Peter Beadle played for us.....But this is different!

Marcus Stewart is like you, a lifelong city fan. And to come out and say he wants to play for us, when he could easily choose a team from the division above, shows his love for the club!

How many times in recent history has a premiership player stated he would love to come and play for his home team, this guy is City through and through, just the kind of heart on his sleeve player this club needs. I say lets welcome him with open arms(and cheque book!!)

On main site lansdown has confirmed negiotiations with marcus's agent saying he wouldnt normally comment on speculation but marcus has forced his hand with his comments today

Looks like its going to happen

Looks like this is Marcus and his agent's way of ensuring that the whole football world knows that he's looking for a club.

"Marcus, it's your agent here. I've just had a call from a Mr Hoddle. He's just read that you're looking to join some useless lower division outfit and he'd like to talk to you about a deal. Oh, and before I forget, Micky Adams also wants a word".

Not doom and gloom at all. I just live in the real world. Anyway, I do not want to see us buy players who will be in their mid thirties by the time their contracts expire. Where's the sense in that?

We're not buying him - he'd come on a bosman (i.e free) !!!

Can't see why anyone has a problem with his age, older strikers than him are playing in the prem and we need a bit of experience in the squad to balance the high proportion of youngsters

This would be an excellent move for the fans, the players and the club.

He won't come cheap cheap, but he'll put bums on seat seats.

His desire to play for us should not be underestimated, he's got his heart set on AG and i think that's wonderful news, i'm praying smiley.gif that the move will happen and i'll be totally ranting.gif if he joins anyone else because he belongs at home, at the best City in the country. city.gif

C'mon Steve, pull this one off for us!

Well there is some sense in it. Not one of our strikers is over 24 and the closest thing we have to a specialist striking coach is Alan Walsh. Marcus could hopefully pass on some of his experience to Brooker/Lita/Heffernan/Gillespie and maybe they can have careers as successful as his.

How many goals did dean windass score for bradford this year, i don't care how old he is as long as he helps us into the championship

In fairness, it's not doing Bolton any harm, signing 30+ year old players on freebies.......Got them into Europe!!

Do you ever find anything positive to say??

Guest Jessam

Hope you don't mind a gate crasher,

The vast majority of us Sunderland fans don't want to see Stewart go as we believe he can still do a job in the premiership.

He has been consistantly one of our best palyers (even when he wasn't scoring for a while).

Don't think he wants to return to City just because its his childhood dream he wants to return to help city get promoted.

Good luck and look after him for us, now I have to follow city as well

More sensible possibly than signing them in their mid thirties?

You're not in the real world Andy.

How old was Linford Christie when he won Olympic Gold? Steve Redgrave when he won his fourth? I could go on and on.

To suggest a professional athlete, who has looked after himself, is past it at 32 is frankly just idiotic.
