Signing Too Many New Players

Whilst is refreshing to see City signing some decent new players that were obviously needed after last seasons disapointments, I do wonder if signing too many new players could be counter productive.

New players coming into any club take a while to settle and its not always easy to gel with existing players if there are several newcomers all trying to do the same thing.Tinnion and Millen will have to work hard on the training ground to instill some team spirit and avoid a "us and them" situation developing. Some of the current players are bound to feel threatened by new players arriving and can feel under valued especially as City went so close last season.Resentments can easily set in and as we saw with Doherty and Coles can cause morale problems amid the squad.

I would see another goalkeeper as essential but as its such a specialist position there wouldn't be too many problems.A target man is also on the shopping list and thats potentially 6 strikers all looking for one of the two starting places.

The pre-season will definately be a test of the managements man management skills.

IMO since Tinnion began his reign as city head honcho he is striker mad! I didnt really see the point in signing Brooker as we had Miller at the time and if he was given a chance i'm sure he would have scored just as many goals for us as he did for hearts. Obviously Brooker has done well for us and we have made some money back on Miller but with the strike force in place at the moment i cant really see the need for anymore....unless one of the current strikers is moving on????

Can't agree with you on that one, I'm afraid.

We all agree that competition for places is important. Just look at how players such as Peacock got into the comfort zone when they knew they would be picked regardless of form.

Therefore, by my reckoning we have 3 out-and-out strikers in Lita, Stewart & Brooker. I would suggest that one of them is likely to suffer from injuries/suspension for upto say, half the season - thus only leaving two strikers. No competition there. I agree that we need one more striker.

I wuold also agree that whomever we were to get, he needs to be a physically big guy. Currently only Brooker fits that mould and were he to be out, who would hold the ball up for us ?

Too many players aren't the problem. It's too many players who aren't good enough that has proved the stumbling block.

Cotterill and Gillespie are both out and out strikers, even though they've mostly filled in elsewhere up til now.

Both should be pushing for a place in their preferred position this season, and there's no reason to think they wouldn't be up to the task if one of the 'main 3 ' had a prolonged absence.

I agree, Akinfenwa would be a pointless signing.

We already possessed the strongest strike pairing in the division before we signed Stewart and I completely understand why he was a unique opportunity well worth signing, but we don't need any more forwards.

Even if Tinnion doesn't rate Gillespie and lets him go (and we don't actually know that) we'd still have Lita, Stewart, Brooker and Cotterill competing for two places, which is plenty.

We clearly need a back up keeper (and Ryan Clarke would be fine, in my opinion) but that should be enough and the point of trying to assimilate too many new players at the same time is a good one, I remember the late Cooper era when we had about six new players at the same time and he went before they gelled.

Then again, if the rumours are true, Lita could be on his way out of Ashton Gate in the near future.

Haven't we just sold 2 strikers that weren't given a chance and Gillespie was not out on loan alot of the season? I really don't think another one should be top priority.

If there's a good chance of that, and i reckon there is:

1 ) Why did we sell his natural replacement, Heffernan?

2) We should wait until he does go when City will have the money to get someone better than Akinfenwa, i.e Jonathan Parkin.
