Red Cloud
one big concern last season was our total lack of organisation & set piece play - a new coach was on the way & as my posting yesterday received no reponses whatsoever I assume these problems have been sorted out despite no appointment yet!Is this the case or was I just being ignored? andy g
If you want a serious answer though, although i believe that managers win you things rather than players, I think the problem we have on set pieces has been down to the players we have. The two biggest problems are that we have a goalie who doesnt command the penalty area and until now we've lacked a dominating csntre half. But Matt Heywood is showing signs of becoming that centre half. If he does, it will make an immediate improvement on our set plays (in defence and attack)there. tompo
Perhaps you should read some of the threads on last nights game. This is typical http://www.otib.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=40120First half we were OK but sloppy second half. With Heywood on the pitch we have not conceded a goal which may give a clue as to where it went wrong last night. RedRaw
It appears that with Heywood, Partridge, Keogh and Fortune we have plenty of big, strong centre backs who have great ability to head the ball in defensive and attacking positions. My slight concern is that to my knowledge, none are blessed with a great deal of pace and an opposing team with one or two, small, nippy forwards (ala Lita) we may struggle. This was the only attibute that Coles could offer that we don't now have
