Sad Demise Of A Legend....

i said it helps but if you read my post you would see that no a legend

does not just have to be a top flight or england player as i've explained

in parts of my post, bits you've missed:

ateyo = goals, loyalty, appearances.

merrick = loyalty, appearances, ripping up a contract to help save a club rather

than personal gain.

gow = a great midfield player and did the bizz for city no matter what league

we were in and what i did not point out that he would look

out of place in a england shirt being scottish  whistling.gif

billy wedlock = a great defender and a f.a cup final player in a city shirt.

like i said gow and merrick were at city for years before they got to the top

flight with city.

so again what's your idea of a city legend  cool.gif

Riiiiight so from those points why would you not clas Tinnion as a City Legend?

tinman a legend as a player hmmm

the legend tag gets pinned to a player or manager normally when they move

on from the club, as he is still the manager and looking to take us (i hope) on

to better things i will hold judgement untill he does.

But no doubt he was a good player that gave us some good service but do you really belive he has

got it in his heart like merrick did with his contract and stand

up and say ' i am out of my depth here as a manager '' ''i'll rip my contract up

for the love of the club'' can't see him doing that if he keeps failing with results.

he will get the sack and lose any respect city fans ever had for him.

now the last thing i want is to see him fail but early signs are not good i hope he

proves me wrong as all i want to see is city win and do well no matter who our boss is.

i thought he was the man for the job last season i just want tins to sort it

out and make me belive he is still that man for the job.

it helps.

john atyeo a full england international while in a city shirt

you only have to look at atyeos scoring and appearence record to answer your

question, he had a massive loyalty to bristol city and refused several transfers

to go elsewhere (liverpool being one of them), frankly he did the bizz in a city shirt.

geoff merrick same amount of playing years/ service as tinnion but yes got us to the top flight and played there for us

and also a bristol lad, but more important than that he was one of 8 who helped save this club ripping up his contract

so we can all still have a bristol city to moan and cheer about.

billy wedlock a full england international while in a city shirt and also got us to the

f.a cup final one of citys best ever defenders.

gerry gow well all i'll say he is in my eyes the best midfielder to ever put the

bristol city shirt on, enough said there, like merrick got us in to the top flight

and played there, again he did the bizz in a city shirt.

but the biggest legend ever at ashton gate is THE FANS

FOR PUTTING UP WITH YEARS OF LOWER LEAGUE FOOTBALL.

Absolutely spot on mate, well said !

Redtilldead In this instance yes I do, I don't see what your problem is with him saying, in HIS OWN opinion, these people were legends, and as yet Tins isnt, it's his opinion, and he is entitled to that, just are you are entitled to yours.

thanks Redtilldead

mattglosbcfc well, not once did i say he wasnt entitled to his.

But you do know, you are entitled to your own opinion as well.

so mattglosbcfc i get the impression that tinnion is your legend

(which is fair enough) so what makes him a legend in your eyes

and if not him then who? come on i answered your question razz.gif

To add to the "legend" debate:

I used the term "Legend" in the original post, as I believe than Tinnion showed exceptional qualities as a player for BC. Qualities such as:

- vision, with those long, inch perfect diagonal balls out to a flying Scott Murray

- incisiveness, with precise, defence splitting passes which set up fast moving forwards

- a sense of occasion, with memorable moments such as that goal at Liverpool

- loyalty and reliability, whch brought about those 500+ appearances

- commitment to the club, shown not just in appearances on the pitch, but also time spent in supporting club activities, at all levels: when an Academy player tragically died, a few years ago, he was there offering support and sympathy.

I used the words "sad demise", because despite all this, and more, Tinnion may be remembered most as an inept manager, for all the reasons I, and others in this thread, have described. It's a cruel fact that his loyalty and commitment have numbed his sense of what is right for City, in the grand scheme of things. If he goes gracefully now, perhaps some of that legendary status will remain.....
