The Massacre At Swansea

This was the City team for that fateful game in which the 'wasters' let down their boss and brought about the end of his employment:

City: Phillips; Carey (Murray 54), Keogh, Fortune; J.Smith, Orr (Wilkshire 65), Brown, Golbourne; Bridges; Cotterill, Gillespie (Stewart 54).

Subs not used: G.Smith, Skuse.

Gary Johnson obviously realised that he had to be rid of this rabble, perhaps identifying them as a threat to his job too, perhaps seeing them as the weaker players.

Golbourne and Bridges were allowed to go in the transfer window.

Grant and Jamie Smith, Gillespie and Fortune were all clearly shown the door. Keogh and Stewart were also sent out on loan.

Phillips was dropped, and Wilshire and Brown both had to fight to stay in contention.

Only Orr, Cotterill, Carey and Skuse were considered first-teamers for long periods of Johnson's reign.

4/16!

Maybe says a lot about their desire and determination.

I think Tinnion's wholescale squad rotations showed he'd lost the plot.

Also, Gary Johnson was forced to make wholesale changes throughout the run of defeats (suspensions/injuries/arrests) which didn't help his baptism of fire.

Let's hope next season is less dramatic as the one just gone!

Says alot for those posters who still insist that the GJ led turnaround has been largely based on players favoured by Tinman too.

To be fair, the team that started at Swansea was depleted by injuries and wasn't anywhere near Tinnion's own preferred line-up.

Yesterdays defence - Basso,Orr,Keogh,Carey,Woodman. Four of these players were at City when Johnson took over.

Yesterdays midfield - Wilkshire,Noble,Skuse and Cotterill. Three of these players were at City when Johnson took over.

Yesterdays front line - Brooker and McCammon. One of these players was at City when Johnosn took over.

In fact Johnson has actually signed two players on decent contracts.Basso and Noble. All the others have been short term deals or loans. It will be interesting to predict what the starting 11 will be on the first game of the season in August.

I see where you're coming from and wholeheartedly agree with the thrust of what you say, with a couple of exceptions.......you'd expect that, wouldn't you :)

Golbourne was and still is a very promising player who we cashed in on as opposed to got rid off for any misdemeanour. At 17 we could very well see BCFC as being the former employer of both England full backs in the 2010 or 2014 World Cup, Liam Rosenior being the other.

The deal, especially with Reading getting promoted has yielded some much needed cash with the promise of much more to come providing he's capped or transferred.

Keogh has, IMHO been very unlucky not to be more involved this season and he may be a regular starter next.I hope he's part of the squad and I've been consistent in that view all season. In my book he's as good as Fontaine.

Michael Bridges wasn't fit, needed games and had we given him the games to get fit, who knows......we could have been relegated by then or he might have got the goals to take us up as he's done with Carlisle.

Stewart & G Smith not to mention Partridge, who was injured again, are still on the payroll although I think that none of those feature in GJ's plans.......moving them on may prove difficult.

Who knows, if the injured Brooker, Heywood, Russell & Partridge had all been fit, Tinnion might still be manager.

Looking at yesterdays squad, it's interesting to note that seven of the Swansea were involved and that only three GJ signings featured. One of whom,McCammon may not be here in August :dunno:

I'm not knocking GJ, who could after the last 2/3 months but we're still in Div Three and anything other than promotion next season will be a huge disappointment to me.

Just emphasises what a fantastic job GJ has done to turn around this club, why couldn't the last manager produce the results with these players that GJ has achieved?.......

We'll never know whether Tinnion would have turned it around. He was gone after just 7 league games.

One thing is for sure - Tinnion had assembled a decent squad as Johnson has since proved.

We'll never know, but as Tinnion has himself confessed that the job came his way too soon is an indicator that he felt the sutuation was out of his control.

It's a shame, but the season was crucial in that we have made a necessary transition in appointing a boss with all the credentials and spirit required.

To be fair it was Tinnion's 61st game in charge and he still didn't know what his preferred line-up was.

Oh come on, over a third of the recently settled side, Basso, Fontaine, Noble and Savage/McCammon were brought in by Johnson.

Murray was already here, Woodman had been frozen out by Tinnion, whilst Orr was hapless in a midfield berth.

So that leaves Carey (who was returning because he couldn't hack life further up the league ladder), Skuse/Russell, Brooker and Cotterill. Given that Cotterill and Skuse were already here in the academy you are basically looking at Brooker and Russell.

You don't have to go far into the other members of the Tinnion ensemble Smith, Smith and Partridge will do, to spot that he's actually in deficit.
