RED4LIFE
remember the blur v oasis battle of 1996?roll with it v country house?I think time has since told us whom were the best band.Definetly Maybe was a great album, but what's the story was weak, after that their other albums fell straight into the bargain bin.Meanwhile, Blur grew from strength to strength. They were both awful records IMO. Totally agree about the Oasis shout. Definetly Maybe was sheer class, but it has gone steadily downhill since, whereas, Blur have got better and better (although they should have kept Graham Coxon on board).I think I'm one of the only people on earth, that thinks Gorillaz suck fat elephant c**k too!! Flaxbourton Red
Yeah thats him, Damien Alburn. Not sure about all that, prefer the solo stuff by Graham Coxon who used to be in Blur.Oasis are a joke, two brothers and the rest of the band on contracts, how many people have been in Oasis?not keen on all that swaggering "****-off-I'm-northern" posturing. Its a bit fake. plus the music stinks. The best gig up here recently was the flaming lips. They were both awful records IMO. Totally agree about the Oasis shout. Definetly Maybe was sheer class, but it has gone steadily downhill since, whereas, Blur have got better and better (although they should have kept Graham Coxon on board).I think I'm one of the only people on earth, that thinks Gorillaz suck fat elephant c**k too!!That is the funny thing BOTH of the records were (to use an oasis phrase) ssshhhhyyte. Was the video to country house amusing? It had that cockney person keith allen doing something in it, is he amusing? I'm unsure.

KevinC
Had an old Sofa once that split and all this red coloured stuffing started coming out. For some reason whenever I see Mick Hucknall it always reminds me of the Sofa.If I ever get to vomit it does much the same thing. Mick every time

Boxing Kangaroo
The NME in conjunction with the book 'British Hit Singles and Albums' have just surveyed 40,000 people on this very subject, this was the top 10 - 1: Definitely Maybe - Oasis2: Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band - The Beatles 3: Revolver - The Beatles4: OK Computer - Radiohead5: (What's the Story) Morning Glory? - Oasis6: Nevermind - Nirvana7: The Stone Roses - The Stone Roses8: Dark Side Of The Moon - Pink Floyd9: The Queen Is Dead - The Smiths 10: The Bends - Radiohead http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/music/5037792.stmThe top 20 can be viewed here - http://www.nme.com/news/oasis/23227An album that no-one has mentioned so far that I think is fantastic is 'It Takes a Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back' by Public Enemy. That's hip-hop at it's very best IMO.

mozo
Got a mate that's been ranting abuot the flaming lips, did you go on the weekend?I've seen them once live and they were great, and I'm going to see them this month. If you don't ming the high-pitched warbling vocals and the surrealness they're really good. - Oasis6: Nevermind - Nirvana7: The Stone Roses - The Stone Roses8: Dark Side Of The Moon - Pink Floyd9: The Queen Is Dead - The Smiths 10: The Bends - Radiohead Interesting list. Only one non-British group, and only bands. How Oasis' 'What's The Story' is adjudged to be better than some of our alternatives (London Calling for example) I truly cannot fathom!! The lyrics are largely pointless, the tunes are very basic, the production is good, but it can't be seen as anything other than a less raw and less exciting follow up to Definitely Maybe. Doesn't deserve to be in the top 50 of all time, let alone top 5!A predictable and one-dimensional list by all accounts.

PhatWill
Just to add my view to the Blur V Oasis thing...I'm not an Oasis fan, they just make music for drunken northern monkeys to put on the juke box just before they leave the pub. The vast majority of their music is average at best and displays very little in the way of decent song writing.Albarn has more talent in his little finger than both bone head Gallagher brothers put together. The best thing 'Oasis' ever did was the Scorpio Rising track for Death In Vegas, which was written by Death In Vegas (Liam providing the vocals!)I believe a new Blur album is on the horizon and it'll be interesting to see where they go now after Britpop-Gorillaz-Think Tank-Gorillaz ... ? Can you ever say that about Oasis?? No, they just churn out and recycle Definetly Maybe.Best albums, something like this:Pink Floyd - Dark side of the moonThe Strokes - Is this itThe Libertines - Up the bracketPortishead - DummyPortishead - Portishead !Massive Attack - Blue LinesDeath In Vegas - Scorpio RisingBeatles - Srgt PeppersRadiohead - The BendsRadiohead - Kid A
