Bestest Albums

Bluds,

Best album of all of ever?

The criteria:

1/ Listenable tune - does it sound nice?

2/ Musical intricacy - did it take musical talent?

3/ Lyrics - are the songs poetic or meaningful?

4/ Originality and innovation - was it groundbreaking?

5/ Personal appeal/meaning - is it special to you?

So, what albums tick some of these boxes for you?

Some suggestions:

Pink Floyd - Dark Side Of The Moon

Massive Attack - Blue Lines

The Stone Roses - The Stone Roses

Mos Def - Black On Both Sides

Marvin Gaye - What's Going On?

There are very few great albums. There are collections of great singles and albums with 6-7 "great" songs on.

My favourite albums of all time are.

Pulp-Different Class. 12 great songs which link well, have meaningful lyrics, and it defines the period in terms of attitude and music.

The Dead Kennedy's- Fresh fruit for rotting vedge. Classic punk, influencial, innovative and stands the test of time.

Massive Attack - Blue Lines. It is that damn good. You'll all have it so i don't need to say much...

Greenday - Dookie. Actually the first album i ever bought. It got me into guitars and music and boasts some great songs. It's a personal thing for this one.

I expect to be slated to high hell for this but Kaiser Chiefs - Employment. It's the best album to come out in the last 5 or so years. Great songs, great music. It's not revolutionary but it's paved the way for the return of good guitar music which suffered greatly since around 99.

I can't think of many albums on which i like every song. (except na na na na na on employment which sucks.) These are the best 5 i've ever listened to. they're not always even my fav bands but they are great albums.

For those of us who remember: Sargeant Pepper.

Also my favourite: Band On The Run. 33 years old and still sounds fresh.

Wings, eh? In the immortal words of Alan Partridge: "The band the Beatles could have been" .

Sgt Peppers certainly fits the criteria, even if I wouldn't personally listen to it.

Some more suggestions:

The Doors - The Doors

The Clash - London Calling

Radiohead - OK Computer

mine would probably be

Queen II - Queen. Top album, recorded on a shoe string, some amazing music and technical work on it is fantatsic, and, no one's ever herad it, so no one can slag it off!

Not bad :D

Happy memories of being in the company of nice people in a bar in Israel, only spoiled by the screeching of Mick Hucknell from the jukebox

Had an old Sofa once that split and all this red coloured stuffing started coming out. For some reason whenever I see Mick Hucknall it always reminds me of the Sofa.

Simply Red Stars

:w00t:

DJ Shadow - Endtroducing

Good shout there, mine would be:

Portishead, Dummy - (Massive Attack - Blue Lines is very similiar to Dummy but I'd put in Portishead because there's not many albums that you could play with out wanting to skip a song and this is 10 class songs). The emotion that that girl (cant remember her name) gives is immense.

Wu Tang, 36 Chambers - Without that hiphop would be nowhere.

Roni Size - Represent - See above but for d+b.

Common, Like Chocolate for Water - Common at his very best, newer albums have come close but the production on these songs is beyond beleif and common, well he's just god.

RJD2, Deadringer - As Premier once told me, hiphop is currently at stage 7 or 8 of 10, RJD2 has moved the whole spectrum and is at stage 4 or 5 on a whole new bandwidth. You wouldn't expect to hear hiphop in adverts but about 8 of these songs are in the commercial media - shows how catchy it is at least...

Where they're from is called Burnage but they insist on calling it Buurnaag. Wonkers the both of em

remember the blur v oasis battle of 1996?

roll with it v country house?

I think time has since told us whom were the best band.

Definetly Maybe was a great album, but what's the story was weak, after that their other albums fell straight into the bargain bin.

Meanwhile, Blur grew from strength to strength.
