The Batman
I was taken by MP Clair Curtis-Thomas' comments about how Lads Mags such as Loaded, Nuts etc should be classed as 'top shelf material' along with Playboy, Penthouse etc because of their graphic content and how they degrade women.Part of my job for my SU is the chief editor of our magazine, and i'm writing an article on it at the moment, just wondered what all you guys think, i've got my take on this, would be interested to hear the ladies view on it, as well as the lads.http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/5119602.stmMy personal view is that i think the government have got more important things to worry about, rather than this. WTFiGO!?!
I reckon.....Money and influence is what it's all about. Lad culture is hot comercial territory for both of these things. There is a difference between lads mags and porn mags. So I've been told.If they're degrading to women then it's the women featured in them who need convincing of this, nobody else. I have no interest in the cheap thrills gained from any of it, to quote the Special's ''it's all a load of bollocks''.

DanI'd suggest that those banal 'lifestyle' type magazines such as the 'high end' Hello celebrity nonsense or the 'low end' Womans Weekly pap are equally degrading and particularily disrespectful to female intelligence.Sure there are plenty of lads who want to see semi-naked chicks but there is also a wide range of magazines available aimed at other 'male' interests (cars, politics, sports, hobbies etc.). Is the above mentioned ALL that women want to read about? Cooking Recipes & Celebrity Gossip?! I could be wrong but I don't think there are very many other titles aimed at women available that don't, at the very least, stereotype womens interests? Guest DrFaustus
Surely if women want to parade their charms, for money, in all manner of physically imopossible positions, I for one applaud their committment to freedom, justice and the entertainment industry. God bless adult pornographers and all the associated filth, depravity and dextrous young ladies that form the hard-core of that wonderful industry. Nibor
They should probably be top shelf purely to stop 8 year olds picking them up.They're no more degrading to women than womens' mags are to men. We've got bigger problems in this country than magazines containing pictures of beautiful women in bikinis, why doesn't this stupid lazy attention seeking MP go and deal with a real problem? The Batman
They should probably be top shelf purely to stop 8 year olds picking them up.in my article i counter argued that by saying that an 8 year old can simply go on the internet and find much worse on there than in any lads magazine. my brother is 10 and has known how to use the net for a good few years now. WTFiGO!?!
What harm can seeing a naked woman do to an 8 year old anyway?
The Batman
What harm can seeing a naked woman do to an 8 year old anyway? i suppose this could start the debate on "when should a child start to learn about sexual education", which wasn't intended but possible link. although saying that, i'd rather teach my child about sex ed rather than let him/her read it out of a magazine, but that's another debate. KevinC
to quote the Special's ''it's all a load of bollocks''.I think that's only true of magazines with naked blokes in.Maybe the issue is "are they degrading to blokes"? Surely it's better to have a relationship with a real live woman than a silicone enhanced airhead with staples in her bum?
Dollymarie
Well you wanted female opinions so heres mine....I cant see what all the fuss is about myself, when I lived with my now ex boyfriend he used to buy Loaded and/or Nuts and I used to read it from time to time, the same as he would flick through my ladies magaines. I mostly used to find them amusing, quite a lot of funny stories in them, and the pictures of naked/semi naked ladies didnt bother me in the least, but then stuff like that never does bother me, women naked tend to be slightly more attractive than some men naked.I wouldnt particularly like a young child to be reading them, but to be honest they either wouldnt know what the words meant or just giggle at the pictures. As someone said don't MP's have better things to sort out, like the state of the NHS??? mozo
There is a difference between lads mags and porn mags. So I've been told. The difference is that lads mags are for people too embarrassed to buy porn. I don't care whether lads mags are degrading or not, I'm more concenred that they're boring and juvenile. At least porn serves a purpose
