Cardy
What is it with our scouting system (do we even have one ?) ?In the last 12 months Yeovil have had to replace the core of their squad but have done so with even better players for next to nothing. Plus this week they have got Brittain on loan who was very good today. Say what you like about Yeovil but they certainly know how to spot a player with potential and also know how to get the best out of them. What do we get - mainly dross like Corr and Wright who were both a complete waste of space today. Plus many others not fit to wear the shirt on today's performance. This is not a post against GJ but frustration at our apparent continuing sh1t scouting system. Want to guess his surname? In fairness some of the players we've brought in via that route have been good... Fontaine, Noble, and McCombe are all very good players. Some of them have been pants and some haven't yet convinced but that's not unusual.

This has been going on for years and simply isn't good enough.

This has been going on for years and simply isn't good enough. We had bugger all for a long time before that (since before Fawthrop involved with the academy - he was a scout before that) because none of the managers we'd had had actually asked for it.I'm a bit disappointed that players like McLean of Grays and Roberts from Accrington seemingly pass us by whilst we root around in the academies of bigger clubs for players we'll only have to give back if they're any good. 22A
Go back 30 odd years. City missed Paul Cheesley from Gordano and had to sign him from Norwich. Yep Norwich, they had come down, seen and signed him.
Andy Horsman
There is a major issue here, we have got an excellent academy, but need to supplement that with some serious investment in additional scouting, because realistically, if we do realise our dream and get to the Championship, we need to be like Burnley and build on peanuts to compete with the Birminghams etc.Look at Plymouth, Colchester and Luton, all thriving and not by bashing the cheque book.I am prepared to give Barry Corr another couple of games, but if he was the signing from a pool of 50 considered then the other 49 would not have been exactly breath-taking. aa_bcfc
I posted on another thread, if the current loan signings are the best our scouting system can come up with we had just as well send them back to save the wages. Just as well sack the scouts as well to save their wages.

MATT BCFC
We don't seem to scout the lower leagues. When was the last time we signed a player from the conference or below?
Dastardly and Muttley
We don't seem to scout the lower leagues. When was the last time we signed a player from the conference or below? We've tried a couple of times in recent years - James Constable I believe we came close to signing, as well as the lanky striker who decided to continue his education rather than be a professional footballer. We've also been linked with Kightly of Grays in recent weeks, which surely shows that we are looking at that area, even if we then decide they're not good enough for us - surely better than rushing in and signing players on reputation without really looking first . *cough*Dinning*cough*

When was the last time we signed a player from the conference or below?Last time was Shail I believe - one that played in the first team anyway. Unless you count Phillips? Keep the Faith
Phillips from Paulton would be the last I suppose. There are good players in the lower leagues that I'm sure could do a job for us, we just need to identify which ones which seems to be the problem. We may not have enough to go for players like Sharp but surely we have enough left from the Cotterill and Lita sales to buy one of the better players from the conference or possibly league two. bh_red
last one who was any good was phillips eventuallyones before we poor players like Matt Stowell.....instantly forgetable!saying that though looking at some of our signings over the years, you can count the decent ones on fingers or toes! but we haven't half signed some dross over the years on loanstig johanson, craig maskell, phil starbuck some examples of the utter utter rubbish!
