Scroobs
It was definitely the way forward in the late 70's and 80's. that's until they started getting smashed up - I also remembering them being popular with brick throwing away supporters, usually slung from bridges, it happened to a City train circa 1980 coming back from Plymouth.....en route through Weston Super Mare it was attacked by Rovers supporters from the Bournville estate....frightening times. 22A
This month's Rail Professional mag; "Special trains for football fans should be brought back the deputy head of British Transport Police says. They were run in the 70s and 80s to prevent other passengers being inconvenienced by the behaviour of fans. Currently fans are escorted on ordinary trains but this stretches Police resources".
