Alfa Romeo 155

Alfa Romeo 155Developed to replace the 75, the Alfa 155 was released in January 1992 in Barcelona (Motorshow launch Geneva, March 1992) and received much praise from the gathered press. It was designed by the IDEA studio to fit in with the emerging 'corporate look', and many similarities can be found in the styling with the 33, 75 and 164. An excellent drag coefficient of 0.29 was achieved. The Tipo floorpan was used as a starting point, and the basic suspension layout of MacPherson struts at the front and a trailing beam rear was retained, although many significant modifications were made.

157

It is a prime number. The next prime is 163 and the previous prime is 151, with which 157 comprises a sexy prime triplet. Taking the arithmetic mean of those primes yields 157, thus it is a balanced prime.

And uncle likes sexy triplets..the Beverley sisters....ding dong!

New Zealand's Brendon McCullum launched the cash-rich IPL Twenty/20 cricket series in stunning style with a record-breaking innings of 158 not out in Bangalore.

The Black Caps wicket-keeper innings - the highest individual score by any player in Twenty/20 history - was off just 73 balls and included 13 sixes and 10 fours.

The Messerschmitt Me-163 Komet

The aircraft was powered by one of the new generation of rocket engines. To reduce weight & drag the Me-163 had no tail or undercarriage. Taking off on a trolley that was later jettisoned & landing on a wooden skid, the first test flight took place in 1941 & after considerable development became operational in 1944. None the less the aircraft had it's dangers. The volatile fuel could dissolve the flesh of pilots & ground crew in a matter of seconds. The pilot's flight suit, boots, underwear and gloves are made of a non-organic, nylon-like material. Clothing made of organic material like cotton would burst into flames on contact with the fuel. The pilot was protected by 13mm of armour behind his head and shoulders, and 8mm of armour behind his back. A 90mm armour glass screen gave frontal protection with a 15mm armour nose cone. The constant speed propeller in front drove a generator for electric power.

The high speed of 596 mph (959 km/h) made it difficult to control & it's short endurance of just under an hour limited it's effectiveness. The Me-163's inherent dangers led to more aircraft being lost in accidents than were destroyed in combat.

In 1977, in the Centenary Test between England and Australia, Derek Randall scored a titanic 174, his highest Test score. While ultimately futile in that England still lost the match it was a superb innings from one of the most popular cricketers of his day. The innings was also notable for Rodney Marsh, the Australian wicketkeeper, calling Randall back when he was given out caught behind, on the grounds that Marsh knew he had not caught the ball cleanly. Such sportsmanship is sadly disappearing from the game nowadays.
