Interestingly the Lee Dixon who’s free kick supplied their equaliser is the Arsenal ‘legend’ , as Chester finished bottom of the league that year ,  things could only get better 😂

Although they did have a bit of a revival after that season things did get much worse, so bad they no longer exist.

Wound up in 2010, they eventually reemerged as Chester FC and are now in the 6th tier.

Oddly and some may say boringly, that was our last game at that level and we have now played 40 years in the middle two divisions.

  2. I see Pete Trego’s 16 year old son made his debut for Gloucestershire 2nds yesterday.

Coming on to bowl as their 5th bowler he took 5 for 16.

If he turns out to be a good’un, and I really hope he does, I’ll be a bit/very disappointed he plays for Gloucestershire.

13.500 is practically bang on to sales as last season

One thing that people are missing is that no hospitality has been put on sale yet.

All 18 executive boxes will be up for sale and all the other hospitality tickets are still to be added

I’d be interested in the hospitality numbers.

The Lansdown suite seats are all immediately to the left of me and the amount of empty seats this season compared to pre Covid is huge.

I’ve spoken to a few who have ditched it and they’ve said it had gone up so much isn’t worth the money or is just too much to pay nowadays.

I haven’t looked at prices for next season, I wonder if they’re up, down or the same price?

My favourite too. I remember travelling up seeing all the City boys in the backs of transits with scarfs hanging out and the Reflex by Duran Duran on the radio every 5 minutes. Absolutely fantastic day and felt like we had got our club back. Just a shame I was too young to get p***ed when we got home!

I have a memory of radio 1 playing on our coach and as it was a bank holiday they were doing a best of morning but I can’t remember best of what. Something like all the number ones of the 80s so far.

Anyway, it was a good trip up and back and considering we had an extra 1 1/2 hours up to Bristol and back afterwards, it certainly went quickly.

For a bit of balance, I went to the Semi Final and saw none of this. I think we got there mid afternoon as we had the day off.

Will remain with me as one of the best games of my life, atmosphere was incredible that day even with reduced capacity. Shows that Wembley can still be special when the fans want to make a noise.

Yes to be fair it was an incredible day and I thoroughly enjoyed myself, I should have said that in my post. Especially as it was the first big event after Covid restrictions.

I just saw so many lads that were no way making it to the game or if they did probably wouldn’t enjoy it or remember it which I found so sad.

And of course the final, which I tried desperately to get tickets for but thankfully failed, was a whole lot worse apparently. Those I know who did get tickets didn’t enjoy it and all got a real bad dose of Covid.

  6. I went to the semi final, things were pretty bad with drunkenness on a huge scale, people vomiting and urinating everywhere you looked. This was at 5pm on a work day, so 3 hours before kick off.

The final was a disaster waiting to happen, a 2 o’clock kick off time would have been great but was never going to happen.

It struck me at the semi final, seeing people completely off their heads, some collapsed, some staggering around being sick, this was going to be one of the biggest sporting events of their lives, something they could remember and talk about until the day they die and they were lucky enough to have tickets, in most cases. Yet they were happy to miss it or have no memory of it and get off their heads all day instead. Weird.

I look forward to seeing this documentary.

There was a CIty complicaton video and it showed thirty seconds of the game Morgan second goal and a pitch invasion, I'm sure someone posted it here last year

Yeah I thought there was but can’t find it. The only one I can find has up to the Swindon game then interviews TC the day after Chester.

I also can’t find my programme, I’ve a vague memory of taking it out of my main collection in the garage and putting it somewhere safer as it meant so much. Now all the others are fine in the garage but I can’t find the Chester one.

A really memorable day that I've written about many times on here.

    Favourite away day ever?

Well, having been to Leeds in the Cup, Arsenal and Coventry, I'm not sure about that, but it's certainly up there with the best considering what we'd been through and with our lowly circumstances at the time as satisfying and memorable as any of them.

As a schoolboy living 60 miles from Ashton Gate I had no chance of getting to the three legendary away games you mention. The Arsenal one in particular I would chose as a time in history I would return to if possible.

I believe we were "back" the previous December, with the win at Eastville. York I enjoyed that season, only the 1,000 at that one but a great day out.

That game at Eastville is certainly up there with the very best for me and you’re right it did feel like we were back but we were still in the bottom division and promotion wasn’t guaranteed until the final whistle at Chester, so that felt like the real “we’re back” moment for me.

Of course, 40 years later and we’re still not truly back to where we were.

    Brilliant day.

Over riding memory is some City lads complaining the Pub was too busy, then taking a table and chairs out into the middle of the road/carriageway and sat there drinking.

That and thinking Terry Cooper was in danger of falling out of the stand when lifted on someones shoulder.

OMG, that was scary seeing TC precariously balanced on someone’s shoulders up in the stand.

City had to  send some of their Stewards to Chester that day to help Chester cope with the large crowd.

Two years earlier City were home to Chester, the only team beneath us, for the last game of that season. Both sides knew they were already relegated, but 3,200 attended. To me those are true fans, especially the travelling Chester fans.

I was surprised to find out that was only our 3rd visit to Chester for a league game. I do remember they finished bottom of the 4th division that day.

When you think how many we’ve taken to Wembley and the Millennium stadium since that day, it means a hell of a lot to say I was there that day and many other even less glamorous days.

  10. Well that was enjoyable day at the cricket. After having two days play recently where only two wickets have fallen all day, which will kill the game if it happens too often, it was nice to see some wickets fall.

OK, a few too many today but I don’t think there’ll be any problems re the pitch. I was behind the bowlers arm and the ball was moving sideways through the air. Plus Cook and Porter are comfortably the best opening pair of bowlers in the country.

Hopefully the ball will continue to do things tomorrow until at least lunchtime then everything settles down for our chase.

Wasn't the Trumpton game rearranged from a time when we had everyone fit and were absolutely flying or have I imagined that?

Yes I found my original ticket the other day, I’ll have to dig it out again but I think it was originally set for February. What might have been.

As others have said, a great season but ultimately has any club ever had such a depressing promotion?

Instead of playing April would it not make more sense to start later and run the season into late Sept early October The weather does seem drier that time of year

The final day of the championship this year is the 29th September, I’m not sure you could go much later, maybe a week?

How about have the 100 in April, the cold and wet doesn’t matter so much when the game is that short. And then we can play championship cricket in August.

Apparently if you go into the Downloader app

    Enter www.firesticks.com/simple-downloads/

There are many different options of categories you can view

By all accounts if you want new TV or Films you can get these through Tea TV

If you are looking for that days games if you go to the schedule tab it brings up all the top games (inc Championship) here, I am told if you select a specific match you then get the option to watch either the home teams, away teams of EFL transmission of that fixture

By all accounts it has many other sports on there too

Like I say all the above is what I have been told and it is all FREE !!

But what is the picture quality like, I’ve seen many that say Hd or even UHD but the picture quality although watchable is nowhere near HD.

It is amazing what you can get though and you do wonder how much longer it’ll be a thing. I’ve no idea, maybe it’s unstoppable.

  14. I have a, let’s say friend, that watches sports channels via a fire stick and apps paid for annually. He says he’s tried two different ones and neither have the picture quality of Sky despite saying they are in HD and both are glitchy at times and both have not very user friendly interface.

In fact as his Sky still had a few weeks to run he was able to compare both side by side and Sky won in all departments comfortably.

Now, as he’s now saving a fair bit of dosh a year he’ll probably put up with it. But does anyone out there have a genuinely good HD picture using one?

Slightly off topic……does Revolut allow you to have your account in sterling, Euros, both? And to set up things like direct debits in Euros through the European banking system? It’s becoming an increasing problem doing that with the traditional banks since you know what.

Starling does. I move money to my euro account when the rates are good and when you use your Starling card in a euro using country it takes the money from your euro account.

    You also get an IBAN.

Somerset currently 540/1 with the ball since getting Hameed in the Notts game. Even with Overton back I do not see how this attack takes 20 wickets consistently. A fair old while since they’ve won a game without having Matt Henry.

When Leach is back fit I really hope they take the decision to try and play on spinning pitches at Taunton and use Leach and Bashir as this seam attack just isn’t going to win games.

Very worrying lack of fire power in our attack. I’m a big fan of Aldridge but feel this cold start to the season hasn’t helped him or Overton reach their best yet. Besides that we look very short in our pace attack

  17. Plenty of advice here so will make my post short.

Been many times in the last 40 years, especially when I lived just a drive away. Still a city with a lot going for it but personally I’d avoid Las Ramblas, nothing like it used to be, now just very tatty, tourists hot spot with people trying their best to rip you off.

As mentioned pick pocketing is still a very popular pastime, never happened to me but two friends had passports nicked a few months ago on the metro.

Follow the locals and not the tourists and you’ll have a much better experience imo.

and for all the hoards heading to Stoke by train, get the tickets issued from Parson Street

if your starting your journey from BTM or Bristol Parkway

Stokes ground can be seen on the right hand side above the embankment on the approach to Stoke

Buying my ticket to start at Parson Street is going to be so much cheaper for me.

I’m going to screenshot your post to show the ticket examiner it’s legit 😉

I'm curious by a couple of your points, where are the club saying they are prioritising POTD?

It's more beneficial to them to have the money in the account for the summer etc than sporadically getting different numbers per match.

Again, you talk about capping season tickets, this isn't anything new every club has had to make a minimum number of tickets available to non ST holders for a long time.

They certainly won't be capping them at a lower number than what we currently have sold this season.

I'm confused by the last paragraph, how will those not attending spend any money?

There's no evidence a ST holder spends more or less than someone who pays on the day

I think the point is a potd fan is going to spend more than a season ticket holder that doesn’t attend.

At bigger clubs there is evidence that they spend more than attending ST holders, Spurs are trying to get more potd fans as they, especially the South Koreans spend over £200 per person.

Obviously that would be hard to match at Ashton Gate, our one rail of clothing in the club shop couldn’t really support that!
