We can sum this season up in one word

Mediocrity.

For the first time since we've been promoted there is no chance we will go up....and no chance we will go down. What does that mean? Pretty boring stuff.

We are weaker in quality but balance that with a strength in depth we Haven t previously had.

Anywhere between 16th and 10th. Is that exciting? No, Its bloody boring.

Most will disagree secretly but agree when they think about it. At the price of tickets for non season card holders....whats the point?

Bit harsh ain’t it mate?

Doesn't mean it can't be true.

Londoner regularly makes these types of threads looking for a reaction, and has in the past claimed he knows more about football than anyone who disagrees with him because he "is an academic".

So the question is why the attention seeking?

I suppose maybe it could be that he wants to be a Robbored MK II.

In a world where Leicester City can win the Premier League and Donald Trump can become President of the United States, I’m really not interested in you arrogantly telling us a future you cannot possibly be certain of.

Oh and by the way Nostradamus, you also thought this....

You may have a point here, our club are not aiming for the premier league that is a given.. The board are simply hoping they get lucky.

Like you say we are a mid table team, nothing more and nothing less, god knows why your getting a hard time for having an opinion though...

We need a manager who can get us to the promised land within our remit.. LJ is not the man for that..

If we are following a plan, then a season of consolidation is exactly what we need.

Consolidation isn't mediocrity if you take the plan over a number of seasons.  After the highs and lows of recent seasons a year when we take stock and begin the creation of a stable platform on which to begin building towards promotion seems both sensible and good to me.

Probably a boring midtable season. I feel the same but not the same negative outlook. We are now basically an established championship club. We need to get better but we have the scope to do so. Everything about the club is in such a good place. Yes we lost some good players but we have bought well and a few of those have a chance to be better than what we had.

We had to take a slight step back this season. Happens to almost every club in this division. Next summer stars will leave like Pearson at Preston, Watkins at Brentford and Forestieri at SW. We just have to keep adding to the squad. Next summer we will see fringe players replaced by youth. Moore for Hegeler, Vyner for Wright, and Semenyo for Taylor. We will free up more wages and still have a bit to spend from this summer. We may be average this year but personally think we have a higher ceiling in the seasons coming.

Bullshit!! What does consolidation actually mean in footballing terms? What happens to the 3-4 years of consolidation if we slip through the net into league 1? The long game in football doesn't exist, we had our chance last year and failed.. We need a manager who can get us promoted on a limited budget? It can be done....

Consolidation means building towards a promotion and then being able to sustain that promotion.  Last season would never have provided that stability. Exciting though it would have been to have one season up.  Some of you perhaps didn't experience the horror of falling through all the divisions shortly after gaining promotion

Consolidation is a good word for this season

We should have gone for it I agree, last season was a was a wasted opportunity, and may have had some bearing on this window. Still that has to be the first time anyone has called out @Ivorguy for optimism!

Imagine if we had gone for it though, smashed FFP...and got docked points in the Spring.

That was theoretically possible last year. That would have been terrible.
