JBFC II
Own worst enemies so far, been scrappy at times and not taken chances. They’re chucking players in at the breakdown so we need to use that to our advantage, still very much in the balance at this point
JBFC II
A wins a win, brilliant to do it so late on. Nowhere near our best, possibly the worst performance for a while. But it’s 2 wins out of 3, without plenty of first team players and without playing anywhere near our best. Lots to improve on, but positive signs. Feel for saints, was a harsh penalty and they put in a hell of a shift defensively.
Northern Red
Harsh penalty although he penalised us for an identical one in the first half. Got away with that. Though if Eden could kick it would have been more comfortable.
elhombrecito
Would have been comfortably ahead anyway if Eden had remembered to pack his kicking boots, so definitely deserved to win I'd say.
RedM
If our kicker could kick, and the Ref not gone back too many phases and given the try we would have been 16 points to the better. A win ugly with so many changes and injuries has to be the indication of a good squad 4

Oh, and watching BT, I thought from the commentators, that only one team were on the pitch. Saints, Saints and more Saints!

Pat Lam said after the game (and I paraphrase) that we dominated/played better against Wasps but lost. Today we were second best, and won. And yes the commentators during the match were desperate for Saints to get the win, but to be fair pre-match gave us good and fair coverage. It was certainly ‘poor unlucky Saints to have your win snatched away’ rather than ‘well done Bristol, you used your subs well and played till the final whistle’. Going to be a bit of a cracker this. Got to get dominance up front early on, if they get the upper hand at scrum time we stand no chance with the talent in their backs

JBFC II
Clermont look so good, tearing us to pieces at the moment. Nothing is working, we aren’t being aggressive enough and making too many mistakes. This is on its way to be being a battering

JBFC II
A lot of positives from that, we won't face any better attacking side than clermont this season but our structure let us down too often which led to easy points. Without some key players though the fight was excellent and that's just another step on the journey for us, confident we can go to connacht and get a win especially if we can cut out the errors
BanburyRed
Commendable effort by the Bears, not too many teams will put 38 pts on Clermont.
cidercity1987
2 wins (the top 2) and 6 defeats for the English clubs. Is it always the case that our also rans are worse than the French also rans or just one of those things?

Is it always the case that our also rans are worse than the French also rans or just one of those things? I think there's a few things really. Firstly, French club and international rugby is in a stronger place than English rugby at the moment (Exeter aside), which is compounded further by the lack of salary cap in France, meaning the likes of clermont can have the back line they had on Saturday. Realistically the top 6 in France would beat any English side at the minute, bar Exeter, and that showed this weekend, although French sides are always fast starters in Europe, the likes of clermont, lyon and toulouse normally fall apart a bit in the knockout rounds. There's also the fact the French sides started their season at the start of September, they've had a lot more match practice and so are going to be a bit sharper. Going to be very interesting to see if they can keep it up as the tournament progresses as the champions Cup needs top quality French sides at their best

JBFC II
Looking forward to Sunday, here’s hoping for a nice birthday present with a Bristol win. Seen bits of Connaughts game v racing last week and they looked very impressive against a seriously good side, going to be a toughie. Got to say, regardless of Sunday, I’ve become so much more interested in Bris compared to City in recent months. The level of entertainment, win or loss, is so much higher, and the whole culture of the club means I still feel connected, compared to city where I’ve never felt more distant. Great to see Luatua back, our most important player imo and going to be interesting to see how Naulago gets on against a good winger in Matt Healy
