If not Johnson; then realistically who?

If and when the time comes, it all depends on SL’s aspirations. But if he’s got any aspiration to get into the PL sometime soon, right now I’d have a shortlist of 3:

1) Jokanovich

2) Moyes

3) Warnock (when he becomes available soon)

The important thing to consider is the lower we sink down the table, the less attractive we become.

and quite rightly - he'd look at the signings delivered by our recruitment dept and think he could do better. Maybe not TOTAL control but a greater say and with his experience that wouldn't be unreasonable IMO.

If ( and it's a big IF) LJ is sacked then SL will have to take on board that his philosophy hasn't worked and ceed a bit more control back to the manager.

The days of total control ( like when Brian Clough would sign a player without telling the chairman) are long gone. The sums involved now are so big and contracts so legally complicated managers now accept it's now a team effort.

I think if SL made a move Moyes would seriously consider it.

I don’t know whether to ‘like’ or ‘dislike’ your post in response.

‘Like’ as you do talk sense about an experienced manager having more control,  but yes it is a team effort as transfers and contracts now are very complicated and take months of negation which a manager cannot spend time on.

‘Dislike’ for getting my Moysie hopes up :sad26:

I think Jokanovic is realistic, and a part of me hopes that if the deeds done with Lee, it’s done soon while he’s on the market.

Of course my first option is Lee turns it around and we go on a 20 game winning run although there aren’t many signs of that.

Jokanovic ticks so many boxes here:

- He’s got proven success at this level

- He’s used to working in an environment where he’s given players rather than has the say (both at Fulham and Watford) - in fact, what’s probably caused Fulham’s troubles this year is that the owners have bought too many players

- Passing Football - The style would need tweaking as opposed to wholesale changes

- Improves players and adds value

- Can build a side even with a forward who can’t trap a bag of sand (Kamara)

- Available!

I’d guess although expensive, he’d be less expensive than Moyes. And although bigger clubs than us may be interested, how big necessarily? He’s not getting a prem job anytime soon so if he wants to stay in England, an established championship club is logical.

I know there is no vacancy, but if there were, there is no downside to him as a candidate.

Good post and I'd probably have to agree that Jokanovic is the best available and realistic candidate.

It would show great ambition to go and get him whilst he's available.  Sadly, by the time SL gets around to firing LJ, Jokanovic will be back in work.

We'd need to really be in the shit for me to want LJ out though.

We might well be already, Wednesday/Sunday will give us a better indication of where we are. I think LJ has the season regardless, so January recruitment will be key. If it's anything like the last couple of years then god help us. I don't know where we're going to get a striker given that we couldn't recruit one in the close season, so here's hoping we start playing to Fammy's strengths and he can score a few. I'm assuming that midfield recruitment will be equally as difficult so I'm praying Korey Smith heals up well and gets match fit in time for the final third of the season.

Why not Moyes?  All this talk of "he won't come here" Is bo##@locks. He's available and needs a club. Just pay him the wage he wants and wait for the return. We want to progress but keep looking to the future rather than the present. I'm pissed off with things as they stand and my future support is in the balance. Let's see some ambition from the board instead of all this negative  "future" nonsense. Plenty of clubs in the Championship have big name managers. Little Bristol City  need to grow up or sink.

This is true. I believe that he would come here. Unfortunately as has been alluded to, he won't be a 'yes man', which is why Lansdown wouldn't appoint him. And if he did, I could envisage another 'Coppell'  scenario.

What we need is a halfway balance between a toy for the puppet master and a 'confrontational nutter' like Cotterill. This is why given his experience and propensity to prefer residing within commuting distance, I think Coleman would fit the bill.

Let’s appoint a former big name player and rebrand ourselves as that persons name, ala Derby County now known as Frank Lampards Derby County.

The money men at Bristol Sports would be all over this!

Im going for... Didier Drogba’s Bristol City

Loving this idea, how about Paul Scholes’ Bristol City

I personally would like to see Danny Crowley. Done a great job at Lincoln, always talks well when heard him interviewed.

I don’t see Jokanovic or Moyles as realistic targets, think both will see themselves as able to attract bigger / more attractive clubs than us.

I've been banging on about the Crowleys' for some time, if I'm honest I thought they would have moved up another step by now. Did brilliantly at Braintree , getting them to the verge of League football (for context they are now fighting relegation from Conference South) and apart from that amazing cup run , has Lincoln flying now. Obviously a risk, but would fit into the clubs ideas and is , as you say , media friendly.
Jokanovic would be the statement signing that some people would want, unlikely I think.

Holloway.

Not because he's the best choice but there is an outside chance he might just do a job and, should he do so, they'd never be able to live with themselves.

That would be something special.  We could even have Barry Davies paraphrase: " Just look at their faces, just look at their faces....."

No they’re not, Braintree are in the national league....a step above national league south...which I guess is what you meant by conference south...either way, they ain’t fighting relegation from the national league south....

Credibility (With players) a concern at this level ?

They would have to impress and win players over very quickly

if we go go down the Young Coach , work with what we give you approach , I’d consider or at least look closely at Nathan Jones at Luton
