Agreed, as I qualified IF he is found guilty. Being charged is not automatic guilt.

He looked like he had so much talent. I heard he was ahead of Morrell a few years back. Far behind him now it seems. Shame.

Sounded like he struggled on trial (was it Newport?) in preseason. Injuries not helped of course, but not so sure that's the only reason for his lack of development.

Young lads out on the lash getting into trouble. It happens everywhere.

Same thing happened to Ben Stokes.

Article suggests he’s been let go already.

To be fair, the article has been amended by the BEP - it originally said he was a current player. I’d assume the club saw it and asked for an urgent amendment in view of the possible negative PR (while acknowledging the alleged incident occurred while Dowling was contracted to BCFC)

Bemmy lad isn't he? Shame.

Didn't actually know he'd been released.

One of the few true city fans in the academy.

Rejected the top 4 clubs to stay here.

What a shame.

For him it's a shame he's not already worth £20m on a decent contract. Clubs don't get rid of players then.

And we offered him a contract in May

Presume he didn’t take it up then?  Seems an odd one Dave - know any more?  Thought he looked a good prospect.

The club presumably thought he might have a value at some point in the future, by offering him a contract they could agree a sale fee, and especially a sell on fee if he sorted himself out.

Indeed I get that thanks. Just wondering why he didn’t take it up.

Ben Stokes was of course found not guilty by a jury after a trial.

The offer May have been taken off the table?  Gregor says they didn’t offer him one 👀

The alleged incident supposedly happened on Feb 3rd. I guess the club didn't want the bad press from a player being on trial so offered him a contract that he would never accept just so they could retain a future interest in him.

I am sure I read on here, or even heard something from the coaches about him falling out of love of the game?

Justice system is a joke.  He hasn't even been to trial and he's out already!!

Seriously, though, hope he gets past this (whatever the verdict) and manages to get his football career back on track.

Silly boy. Shame. We all had high hopes for the lad...

Innocent until proven guilty surely.  Calling him silly implies he is guilty

Wow!  Brave move of true.  Looked a decent player who could’ve gone somewhere with the right application.  Each to their own though of course!

I hope he's innocent but there's a feeling of no smoke without fire and unfortunately there seems to be a lot of smoke....

Not necessarily .... perhaps silly of him to be putting himself in such a situation is less than genius.

Yes, I read that too.  Shame, because he looked promising on his first team debut.  Didn't do much down at Torquay though.

He's 28, which makes him a grown man in anyone's book.

No smoke without fire is a stupid saying.  Innocent until proven guilty and you implying he is guilty because of rumours is pretty poor

I'm not saying he's guilty but this is one of numerous things I've read about him in terms of attitude and maybe enjoying life outside of football too much.

I hope as much as any City fan he has an amazing career and it's all lies but the more I hear the more I doubt it....

Really irritates me.

Also makes no practical sense as you can have smoke without a fire, ha.

Shame cus the academy will be sure to kick him out if guilty

GBH with intent is a very serious offence indeed. If he is fully convicted (i.e. of the “with intent” bit, as well of as the GBH itself) a lengthy custodial sentence (i.e. years) would be virtually a nailed-on certainty.

City terminated his contract in the summer once they knew the severity of what happened. Newport we're intrested on a short term deal but so I hear never attended training so got told don't bother. Great shame and unfortunately has thrown it all away... Hopefully he learns and turns a corner and get the support he deserves being a local lad.

Dunno about training but he did appear in a pre/ Season friendly.
