Article suggests he’s been let go already.

To be fair, the article has been amended by the BEP - it originally said he was a current player. I’d assume the club saw it and asked for an urgent amendment in view of the possible negative PR (while acknowledging the alleged incident occurred while Dowling was contracted to BCFC)

Presume he didn’t take it up then?  Seems an odd one Dave - know any more?  Thought he looked a good prospect.

The club presumably thought he might have a value at some point in the future, by offering him a contract they could agree a sale fee, and especially a sell on fee if he sorted himself out.

Indeed I get that thanks. Just wondering why he didn’t take it up.

The alleged incident supposedly happened on Feb 3rd. I guess the club didn't want the bad press from a player being on trial so offered him a contract that he would never accept just so they could retain a future interest in him.

Justice system is a joke.  He hasn't even been to trial and he's out already!!

Seriously, though, hope he gets past this (whatever the verdict) and manages to get his football career back on track.

I am sure I read on here, or even heard something from the coaches about him falling out of love of the game?

Wow!  Brave move of true.  Looked a decent player who could’ve gone somewhere with the right application.  Each to their own though of course!

Innocent until proven guilty surely.  Calling him silly implies he is guilty

I hope he's innocent but there's a feeling of no smoke without fire and unfortunately there seems to be a lot of smoke....

No smoke without fire is a stupid saying.  Innocent until proven guilty and you implying he is guilty because of rumours is pretty poor

I'm not saying he's guilty but this is one of numerous things I've read about him in terms of attitude and maybe enjoying life outside of football too much.

I hope as much as any City fan he has an amazing career and it's all lies but the more I hear the more I doubt it....

Shame cus the academy will be sure to kick him out if guilty

GBH with intent is a very serious offence indeed. If he is fully convicted (i.e. of the “with intent” bit, as well of as the GBH itself) a lengthy custodial sentence (i.e. years) would be virtually a nailed-on certainty.

3-16 years depending on loads of factors of course.......wow.

City terminated his contract in the summer once they knew the severity of what happened. Newport we're intrested on a short term deal but so I hear never attended training so got told don't bother. Great shame and unfortunately has thrown it all away... Hopefully he learns and turns a corner and get the support he deserves being a local lad.

Dunno about training but he did appear in a pre/ Season friendly.

He looked so good that day, really thought we had a very decent homegrown player on our hands. What a shame how it’s all gone.

Might be a case of too much, too soon.

No idea how much they pay junior pros, but i would imagine it is a fairly competitive market, with those good enough to have earned a contract known to other clubs who might be prepared to pay the compensation to the developing and turn a players head for another ten grand a year.

So maybe they are rewarded quite well and with little to do with the cash other than get off their nut of weekend lager.

What do you consider being given a chance?

He's ended up at Swindon Supermarine. The chances of the guy making a career in the Football League are as good as dead.

Maybe he doesn’t want it plenty of people fall out of love with the fame and would rather do other things then waste time doing something they’re not enjoying!
