Back to normal

I think a major issue will be the fact that people have got out of the habit of going. Doubtless a lot of fans will get straight back into the habit again at the earliest opportunity but there will be people who've started doing other things on Saturdays, or found they've not missed it as much as they thought, and that's sure to impact on gates. Throw in the financial element and I certainly reckon it'll take a while for attendances to get back to where they were.

Agree - there will be the new again novelty factor for some but once someone gets out the habit , it’s difficult to pull them back , and the football of the last 2/3 seasons won’t do that

Agree. I feel I have fell out of love with the game a bit, not just down to performances of our beloved club. I see more cheating, var, players earning vast sums who don’t care, top 6 bias in  prem, agents and Jack Grealish. I know these issues occurred pre covid but if anything needs a reset it’s football.

I think one way in which football may 'benefit' is that people haven't been able to properly socialise with friends for what will have been over a year (quite easily) by the time things return to 'normal' so you may get more of friends going to games/pub before and after to socialise which could draw more in and make up for an amount of those who don't attend.

I still really enjoy the Championship and have a keen interest in the bottom two tiers of the EFL, but I rarely bother with the PL.  VAR hasn’t helped.

Does anybody think City will get back to 20,000 gates if things ever get back to normal, I think football gates may suffer for years due to unemployment and people trying to justify spending mega money on watching football

The poor performances may be another factor.

Great post - I can only talk on behalf of my mates and other acquaintances, but lots of people I know have seriously realigned their priorities this year - and going to the footy ain’t near the top anymore - very sad, but true

I think from April next year people's finances will tightened even more and unfortunately I think it's going to be a struggle for alot,Will they have the money to watch footie I suppose all depends on price and they will certainly have better priorities,But I'm hoping to be back at the gate at least for the following season and hopefully at least a couple this season again all depends on my job position next year which isn't looking good.

Not a hope. Apart from the general reduced interest, the idiotic placement of puppet Holden will sting for a long time yet. Lansdown said it is his toy, he pays the money and we should all just accept it. He is right. and he can sit on his own and watch the farce he has created. He has created a huge divide yet again with the fans. To get the club moving forward needs everyone on the same page. We are miles off. He needs to stop his arrogant self interested behaviour and have a proper reset at the club. He has spent the money, put in place some, but far from all of the building blocks. He needs help and needs saving from himself.

I suppose it depends if we were constantly in the top 3. This season is starting to be a replica of the last one in regards to results and the big drop off that started in December last year.

COVID has changed many peoples life’s and priorities for individuals and families have changed

I honestly don't think we'd struggle to get fans back in. For every person who may have lost interest, there will be another who's missing it so badly. For every person who may have found something else to do on a Saturday there will be someone who stopped doing whatever else they normally did and would love to get back to watching.

Unless they price people out, I expect decent crowds back as soon as they are allowed.

Gates are bound to drop as people have become used to not going and realise how over priced the entire match experience has become.

Only one way to reverse negativity is to sign a charismatic goal scoring striker.  Someone who fans always want to have the ball knowing that something could then happen.  Our present four fall well well short of this.

Atyeo, Cheesley, Galley where are you when we need you?

Unless our team starts to get more than one shot on target per game and improves the level of entertainment I think Mr Ashton and Lansdown with get a big shock with next years season ticket sales. It has been awful for the last 2 years and it seems nothing will change.

Perhaps our investment in the team and manager should be reflected in our season ticket prices. Bargain basement team spending, John Lewis season ticket prices

Take fans for granted at your peril SL or you will have the most impressive empty sporting arena in the UK. We all make mistakes and the first step to recovery is admitting them. If you talk promotion, you must back this in your actions. If you are happy to survive in the Championship for god sake just be honest and admit it.

I think I miss the social side of football getting the train down having a few beers and catching up with friends and acquaintances the football has usually been the only thing getting in the way of a good day, we usually have a group of about 6 of us but that can increase to 12 or more for certain games I think I miss going to gigs more than football and given the choice now music wins hands down over football and that's a real shame after 46 years of watching City

I'm in no rush to go back, I missed it at first but I have now got used to not going. As others have said I miss the day but not the 90 minutes of football which has been dire for a few seasons now bar the odd game. I find the matchday thread on here far more entertaining !!

How is it ever going to go back to normal?

Tiers don't work.

Lockdowns don't work.

Vaccine doesn't stop you getting it or spreading it...just reduces the chances of being seriously ill from it.

So if we continue testing...positive figures will always be there. You can catch it more than once.

It's not going to disappear. So there will always be positive numbers.

The only way it will change is if the Government ignore positive test results.

Speaking from experience, your spot on. I stopped going 2 years ago after 40 plus years of going.

I don’t miss it whatsoever, there is plenty of other football being played in non league on a Saturday and midweek, that’s far more enjoyable, and much less hassle.
No worries like car parking, not paying a small fortune ( not getting ripped off !) for a pint ,or food.
