Any half arsed tester would use the address of the building that they were in

Yep....but considering they outsource the IT, the club won't employ testers.  The U in the UAT is key, and I've worked in development long enough to know that the end-users who test the product typically don't think that way.  They more often than not will go with what they do naturally and if that's putting in their real details, that's what they do.  The issue seems to be the database deployment, with Supporter Id's (probably top 1000, for instance) being replaced with the test users so that no testing emails etc go to real people, but it's all gone screwy somehow.  At least with it now working (or seeming to) we can take some comfort that they do actually take backups of the database!

I hope it was dummy data as people have alluded to, but weren't the addresses real Bristol addresses? Correct me if I'm wrong but if you were just testing fields wouldn't you just go with 123 Lane Street. Just make shit up. Mr A. Man. I'd like some clarity from the club sooner rather than later really.

All just a bit sad isn't it.

Depends on the field type.  If they were testing an address lookup that required a valid postcode then real address data will have been needed to ensure this worked correctly.

Notwithstanding that, all testing should've been done against a database on a separate Test server, so it looks like they've either done this and ended up somehow merging the databases with the existing live environment, copied the data back from live and deployed the whole package including database records to live or they've conducted UAT against a live database, which is bonkers!  Mr P D, which may not be his actual initials, I expect will be an employee of the club and also one of the test users.

I'm wondering how they're affording to get all these players in. Is Mr Snake Oil working there behind the scenes?

Or is it because they're all wife beaters and no one else will have them?

Joey was in charge of the advert for new players and made a Freudian Slip when asking for World Beaters......

  4. Absolutely need to be careful with his recovery from this one.  No point in rushing him back while we have other options.  Let him recover properly and just hope that the double injury doesn't take anything away from what looks/looked to be a promising career.

  5. Hi Jerry,

Is there any reason behind the minimum spend for free postage in the online shop increasing from £75 to £100?

I appreciate there's the option to collect from store, but to be honest there's a valid argument that there's no real excuse for any football club to be charging postage at any amount considering the mark-up on replica kits and merchandise etc, but certainly not putting a three figure limit on purchases!

There's a difference between bigger and taller (I'm sure Silvio will jump in on this one.....)  He may have been tall but he could probably have done with bulking up.

There's definitely a player in there, but one that I feel may well have done better with us coming up from league one rather than straight into the Championship. Right player, wrong timing perhaps.  Shame it didn't work out here, but good luck to him.

It was worse than that - they were all own goals !!

AS Adema 149–0 SO l'Emyrne was an association football match played on 31 October 2002 between two teams in Toamasina, Madagascar. It holds the world record for the highest scoreline in any association football match, recognised by The Guinness Book of Records. SO l'Emyrne (SOE) intentionally lost the game against their arch-rivals AS Adema in a pre-planned protest over refereeing decisions that had gone against them during a previous four-team playoff tournament. By some considerable margin, the match surpassed the previous-highest scoreline when Arbroath beat Bon Accord 36–0 in the Scottish Cup in 1885.[1]

    Overview[edit]

The match was part of a four-team round-robin play-off to determine the national championship. The league crown went to Adema after SOE, who were defending champions, was held to a 2–2 draw by DSA Antananarivo in their penultimate match, during which the referee awarded a late and disputed penalty to Antananarivo, resulting in a draw.[2]

That draw meant that SOE was knocked out of the title race. With the championship already decided, SOE decided to protest; according to some sources, there was an argument between the SOE coach and the referee himself. SOE deliberately scored 149 own goals, with spectators saying that after each kick-off, the ball was kicked into their own goal with the opposition players standing and looking bemused. It was reported that spectators descended on the ticket booths to demand a refund.[3]

Following the match, the Malagasy Football Federation (FMF) suspended SOE coach Zaka Ratsarazaka for three years and four of the team's players, SOE captain Manitranirina Andrianiaina, goalkeeper Dominique Rakotonandrasana, Mamisoa Razafindrakoto (who was the captain of the Madagascar national football team) and Nicolas Rakotoarimanana, were suspended until the end of the season and banned from visiting stadiums for the same period. All other players from both teams received a warning and a threat of more serious action should they commit further offenses.

The referee was not punished, as the situation was deemed to be out of his control, while Madagascar's sports ministry proceeded to dissolve the FMF, which was later reconstituted.

Protest over refereeing decisions.  Would've been 150-0, but the referee gave one of the own goals as offside.......

It means what its means - that you have played for your country. I quite like the cap but I agree the requirement should be to have to start a game at a major tournament.

If you play for your country there should be something like you get the shirt you played in.

So Billy Wedlock would no longer have any of his 26 caps.....?

I don’t like anyone that wears a flat cap.

That said and in all seriousness sometimes there are (local) players of an era where you wonder were they really in it as fans or not. Including the likes of Tommy Doc.

When you see where Scott Murray is today, or even Tinnion, of the same era but non-natives you see a love there; and from others you see a little bit of bitterness that they maybe couldn’t enjoy a footballers lifestyle without the nuisance of application. Carey to me seemed to dance the razor’s edge

Louis was often seen at the Gate watching City before he joined Southampton.  Was usually sat in the Lower Lansdown in the block next to the Heineken Lounge, so I would say he was in it as a fan, personally.

  12. He was left with a bloody awful squad and couldn't get the best out of what he took on.  He did say in interviews that he was tasked with reshaping the setup I believe (I think this was the birth of the 5 pillars), and conceded that he likely wouldn't still be here to see those changes happen.

Yes, some much of the football under him was dire, and he was a really dour manager to listen to, but he was a very intelligent guy whose interviews were well worth reading rather than listening to as what he had to say was always really interesting.

It wasn’t so long ago that the only way a player would leave the City was when we released them.
It’s a sign of a good academy and good recruitment that we now have players who other clubs would like to sign for decent money.
Trust the process, so to speak.

I think this is also a key factor for potential rising stars.  They see that we take a player who was rejected by the likes of Bournemouth and Southampton and harness that talent to produce the £25m player we've seen.

I think the clubs aim should be, and probably is, to not be "ok within FFP boundaries", but rather looking at getting to the stage where we're not even having to think about whether or not we may need to look at ways to ensure we meet the criteria.  A succession of Academy graduates that get their big move to the Prem is a phenomenal advertisement for what this club can offer a young lad.  It will give us spending power and pull.

It's just a shame AshtonYate wasn't around to see the much maligned Academy evolve to what it is today.  He'd probably still find a way to bash it mind!

Bit of chatter from the Wolves end..There is also someone on there who claims to know a relative of Scott.

I really hope we stand firm because although this is a plausible scenario, the nauseating arrogance and inward looking nature of some PL fans is starting to grate. (Brightonwolf).

I've been quite risk averse but £25m or close to £25m ie say £22m with several million more in realistic add-ons or no.

Nige's father in law!  We all know if Wolves play dirty, Nige will just fight them off with his bare hands!

I think the best move for Alex from the teams linked so far would be Brighton. Exposure to European Football and would likely get the game time he wants.  Wolves and Bournemouth again will offer him the game time he wants, but would he want that in a team in transition that (certainly in Bournemouths case) are a good bet to struggle at the wrong end. He loves Spurs, but I don't know if he gets games there.  I'd love Newcastle to be interested as I think Howe is the perfect manager for someone like Scott to progress under, but I've not seen any link there since March.

So much chat and it is all just recycled and was there at the very start of the window - same clubs, same fees, same 'interested in'. Just this thread has gone off on a tangent about every footballer in the world, plus any tweet that comes out about Scott.

Truly believe that £25 million is too much money for the teams touted as interested, as he has no prem experience and won't be a guaranteed hit in his first season, which West Ham and Wolves need, and Spurs have just got Maddison, and are after 2 central defenders, and Levy isn't a massive spender. AS also seems like a clever lad and wants first team football, and that isn't guaranteed when making the step up, he knows he has time on his side to play in the prem. Think he'll be here next season, and hopefully sign a contract stopping him leaving on a free. Also seems very happy in pre season.

There's both recent and aged precedents of this with the club.  I think I read that Ross McCrorie did this at Aberdeen to ensure that the club got fair value, something we will have been aware of.  And further back, Darren Barnard did the same for us when Danny Wilson was coming in for him at Barnsley after their promotion to the prem.

Meanwhile, the objections are lining up to the bus shelter. Some good points made here:-

Comment:As a neighbour living close to the site of the proposed stand I have the following objections:

There has been no consultation with the neighbours in the community about the proposals.
Looking at the plans there are no measurements so that you can make a direct comparison between the size of the old stand and the new one but visually it looks to be about twice the height and about a third longer than the old stand.
This would cause direct impact on the amount of light coming to my house and garden and be a lot more overbearing than the old stand.
The new stand looks to be built directly at the boundary of the rovers property which is quite a bit closer than the old stand was.
Also aesthetically it will look like the back of a warehouse and since the trees which had grown between the old stand and our gardens have been removed by the contractors - there is nothing visually attractive to break up the view.
It is claimed that there will be less noise from the stand but there is nothing in the plans that evidences this.
As the stand will be bigger, closer, and include toilet and refreshment facilities it seems unlikely.

On match days the constant swearing and sometimes racist and homophobic commentary is pretty offensive for the neighbouring families so it would be great if the noise could be properly
    dampened.
Construction work has started with pile driving very close to the boundaries of neighbouring properties. Knowing that the foundations of the old terraced houses are very shallow has there
been any assessment of potential subsidence in neighbouring homes as a consequence?
Parking on match days has always been a problem - what additional parking facilities will rovers
be including to ensure that the neighbours in the local areas aren't even more badly affected by
the additional fans that may come?
Rovers seems to pride itself on being part of the community but in the years I have been a neighbour has never really engaged with the neighbours. Why not?
Lastly I know that in the plans for a new stadium previously approved this stand would have been
bigger but those out-of-date plans relate to a time when Rovers owned the homes (including mine)
directly neighbouring the area and so there would have not been the direct and damaging impact
on the neighbours that there is now.

Imagine they have to tear it down and they're left with a full view of the pitch!  They think now there's nothing visually attractive....!

Hi all, well, obviously I’ve got to highlight the first line of the (apparent) Dover Athletic statement: “Following the news today of Ade Shokunbi we had agreed in principal” ... PRINCIPAL?! Principal? - good grief, how standards have dropped (it’s “principle”) ?

Lots of gen x / millennials are running digital outputs for multiple organisations and media outlets and the results are disastrous - just look at the ‘running threads’ at the bottom of the screen on channels such as Sky News, GB News, Talk TV etc - they are full of spelling and grammatical errors that can be appropriately deemed pathetic in the modern world of spell checker etc.

My dear old Dad was a much respected journalist back in the days when they were old school and actually left their desks to get out in the world to find stories on which to report. He was on first name terms with the likes of Morecambe & Wise, Norman Wisdom etc (look it up kids!) yet he left the profession in disgust in the 1980s saying “standards have dropped so far, I no longer want to be part of this” - he was ahead of his time as everything has seemed to plummet since - eg “we had agreed in principal” - Principal? Principle?

Those who ridicule and think this is all trivial are merely contributing to the massive downturn in basic standards. It ain’t important to many, but it is to me ... cheers ?

Shame he couldn't introduce you to Eric and Ernie enough for you to be on the same terms.....!

It's important to note that there have been errors in writing since writing began. Greek and Roman texts are littered with spelling and grammatical errors.

Jane Austen, F Scott Fitzgerald and Agatha Christie were all terrible spellers.

There is a 17th century version of the King James Bible that says "Thou shalt commit adultery".

The word cacao was misspelled as cocoa sometime in the 18th century and stuck.

Popeye's love of spinach is down to an error where the amount of iron provided was given an extra zero in a textbook.

Our language evolves through mistakes. Words like ammunition, culprit and syllabus are all in use but were borne of mistakes.

But sure, let's blame Gen X and Millennials. Absolute boomer nonsense.

OOOOOOoooooohhhh....look at me and how I can google how long spelling mistakes have been commonplace!  Just cuz ur down wi da kidz dunt mean nuttin.
