They're playing a dodgy game as regards votes in the future. Why would they pander to a small enclave of fewers (clues in the name, comrades ) ?

If anyone's votes in the next election are swayed by the approach taken by any party with this situation then I really just give up on humanity!

Kalas and Dickie would be a pretty strong and experienced back 2.

Would allow the full backs to bomb on something I have not seen yet.

Dropping our best player of the last 12 months (who's still with us anyway) or shifting him out of position is absolute madness.

Either Naismith or Cam will drop into the centre for Friday.  If it's Naismith then I'd better start topping up my blood pressure meds now!  Am I getting confuddled in my old age or has Tins suggested that CB could well be Prings ultimate position? If so, then him, with Roberts slotting in at LB would make more sense from a defensive point of view.

I don't believe the men take theirs but donate it to charity

I'm not sure of the relevance of this comment (I appreciate you weren't the only one to make it) - the men can afford to donate theirs to charity so I'm not sure what they do with their earnings has to do with what the women are paid.

I used to watch it long before we were made to feel like we have to watch it.

I remember many moons ago going to an England game at the memorial ground.

Watched many world cups before but now I've not watched a single game because I don't like feeling as if I have to watch something.

So you decided you wouldn't let someone else influence what you watched....by allowing someone else to influence what you didn't watch?!?  Riggggghhhhhht....!

When women's football attracts the cash the men's does then they can campaign for equal pay.

It's a minority sport that cannot be compared to the men's game, it differs so much in terms of physicality, speed, awareness, skill and technical ability it's almost a different game!

When will the politically correct among us get real?

I do have a wry smile when people bandy around the term "politically correct" like it's a bad thing.  There's a difference between political correctness and political correctness gone mad.  The latter is when something is pushed with no regard to mitigating factors.  The former is just the right thing to do.

This discussion, if carried out on the basis of "women shouldn't be paid less than men, so there", as it seems to be in some quarters, is indeed political correctness gone mad.  The simple mitigating fact here is economics.  To pay women in the WSL the equivalent of men in the EPL would cripple the sport and bring it to a grinding halt just as it's gaining momentum.  As someone else has said, in 30 years time you would expect the gap to narrow somewhat.  But it needs to be allowed to grow organically.

With regards to flares I wonder if it has something to do with fire alarms, in the sense that if there was a fire in the stadium and the alarm went off some people may just assume it's down to the flares and not make their way out of the stadium? I know it sounds daft but in the UK health and safety are very aggressive when it comes to stupid things like this.

It's probably more to do with the fact that fans in this country are bloody idiots who can't be trusted to not just lob them in any old direction.

As for the display today, it looked ok on Robins TV, but unfortunately didn't see the gentleman's image raised. I presume members of his family are on here hence the cloak and dagger approach otherwise that approach wouldn't make sense.

In which case, to those friends/family my heart goes out to you. Watching someone pass from this vile disease is cruelty of the highest order and you have my heartfelt sympathy.

    Wow. That's old!

Looks like Sam Hollis in the suit, standing to the Left - he was manager 1897-99, 1901-05, 1911-13.

No Wedlock there by the looks of it, so it's pre-1905.

    So between 1901-1905.

Harry Thickett played Right Back for us for 1 season 1904-05 before taking over as manager in 1905. Can't see him there, so it could be pre 1904 in fact.

Look forward to having a closer look tomorrow ?

From what I can see I think the first kit to have a badge on it was 1900-1903, which could narrow it down further.  I couldn't see a squad picture in any timescale that matched it though....  Lots of big bushy Magnum PI moustaches there, so this timescale would also fit with turn of the century.

Do you happen to know the Hotel and/or Pub Sam Hollis ran?

He left in March 1905, and managed a hotel between 1905 and 1911, having previously run a pub between 1899 and 1909. He took over as Bristol City manager for the third time in January 1911, and oversaw the club's relegation from the First Division back to the Second.

Could always ask Alan Curbishley...he'd probably know.....

In all seriousness I do love these old photos and to be fair old photos in general. Fascinating to see the changing look of everyday things, whether it be clothes, football supporters, teams, grounds, transport etc.

    We have managed 15wins in each of the last 3 NP seasons, we have slightly improved in that time from a lowly 19th to a mediocre 14th;

prev season with D Holden finished 12th with 17 wins; LJ even had 19wins and finished 8th both sacked...not good enough,

So the selling off our assets over the past 5 seasons has got us from a 8th place finish to 14th last season, maybe its not us that should get a grip but the powers that be. ?

(wins and finishing positions taken from transfermarket so blame them if wrong)

Quite some feat considering Nige has only had 2 full seasons and Holden was only in charge for half a season....

You can blame Transfermarkt all you like but these are things that you should just know if you want to use them as points to pillory the club.

I guess to the letter of the law it's an easy decision, head injuries are a big thing in the game at the moment

Fortunately not in the Harold Schumacher* levels of intent but still makes me wince watching it

    * Sorry young uns you'll have to Google this

I had in mind the Luke Freeman sending off against Brentford in our first game back in the Championship.... With the exception that Luke didn't actually connect!

  10. They were very well crafted and taken goals last night.  We moved the ball around with ease after we went 2-1 up. Arguably our opener was against the run of play, and we could have found ourselves trailing had it not been for some woeful finishing from them.

Each goal you can pick out a really good moment in each of the moves.  Movement off the ball for the opener, the dribble and cross for the second.  The turn for the third. The steal and the touch around the keeper for the fourth and the chip from Wells into Naismith for the fifth.  Sadly their goal was a mess from our point of view.  Tanner completely losing his man and then Max getting caught flat footed with a tame header.

Nice to see we are capable of still playing some nice stuff even without Scott in the engine room.

Vyner has been crucial to the turn around since last Christmas, I feel a lot (not all) don’t rate him as high as they should as they remember the shakey player from previous years. Completely different player nowadays and will do well to keep hold of him.

I think this is doing a disservice to the fan base. It took a few months to get people onside but I think that many, many more recognise the massive improvement in him now.

It’s important we keep hold of our best players and Zak is one of those. Has been for the last 2 and a bit seasons at least.

1 season. If he'd been sold last summer there wouldn't have been many tears shed. I'm so pleased to see him continue last season's form into this. Long may it continue. One mistake today, but the recovery tackle after was superb and showed just how much confidence he's playing with now. 18 months ago his head would've dropped and he wouldn't have made the tackle.

Imagine trying to use facts and still getting it wrong.

Hey, leave him alone....he only had it pointed out to him a dozen or so times after using the "fact" initially before using it again.  Facts have never been RR's strong point, especially when the topic of conversation happens to have the surname Johnson.

Literally hundreds have been added in the last week. I randomly opened a few and they are all basically the same "this would be great for Rovers blah blah blah" "been a stadium there for 100 years, what do local residents expect".

    This was good un though...

"We desperately need this stand built in order to satisfy the growing fan base. With the
growing numbers this will not only help the football club to prosper but also the other small
business's that surround the stadium. It is a win win for all."

    Growing fan base?? ?

Win win for all....hmmmm not sure it is really.

The word "tents" appears a lot as well!

They are a growing fanbase....  They're getting their sisters pregnant all the time up that way......

Personally I thought the Dolman A block lads  helped lift the home atmosphere . Was more raucous at times, our performances in the pitch were better too , so could be a case of both factors helping out.

I guess the E34 block was also noticeable when we were expecting a big /sold out  away following - this is where it really helped crank up the noise. Didn’t have that on Saturday.

Hopefully the lads can get back there to have a go at the away fans, without annoying those who are regular ST holders In that block ..

Both things are not possible.  One or the other.

  17. The comments on the club statement on Twitter are absolutely golden.  I genuinely don't think there is another club in the land better than Rovers....in terms of playing the victims.  I mean, wow!  They really drank the kool-aid when Wally Al-Qaeda bought the club, didn't they?

Interesting read with JB this morning, put a real emphasis on “game time” and the fact Millwall could guarantee him game time and he’s fell out of love with the game due to not playing.

Really hope it works out for him there.

That's a fair enough comment.  If we couldn't guarantee minutes then makes perfect sense why he'd decide not to return.  There's also the legacy concern.  Good luck to him.....except against us of course!
