Its a shame with all these presentations that whoever is being presented to the crowd forgets Block A - C of the Dolman (or whatever numbers they are now) and the Atyeo end of the Lansdown - are these fans not worth parading in front of as much as those in the South Stand and today the South Stand end of the Lansdown.

Come on Bristol City - give enough time to parade the "guests" in front of all City fans - not just a few!

There's a time limit that non playing staff can be on the pitch for, which is probably why they ensure the South Stand end of the ground is covered as that's the half that houses most fans.

I’m the same with Osman. I can remember Phil Tottle (I think) saying he was privileged enough to be in the dressing room at Anfield when Osman gave a Churchillian type speech before they went out and beat Liverpool. He was praising it more than Tinnions goal.

I started to feel guilty about not liking him until I remembered those endlesss, posing punts upfield to nobody time after time followed by him moaning and blaming someone else for it leading to nothing.

I expected more of that team to turn up too, was Any Llewelyn there? He does come to games sometimes.

It would be a delicious irony if Andy Llewellyns invite had gotten lost in the post...

Some may do, but not me. Plus I pay £100 not £50 for my granddaughters ST.
Saturdays we drag her along in the hope that she starts enjoying it. Night games the Mrs miss out and my son in law takes place who also pays membership.
Like I said it was a genuine question to ask why can’t they allow an upgrade. But some of the comments are like I plan it every year in the hope of one big game, or a free shirt which would be more expensive than buying one direct.  Like I said some may do, but not me.

Ignore him, he's a troll. It was clear what you were saying, and it makes complete sense.  He's either wilfully misunderstanding you or he's just not that bright.  Either way, as I said, your situation makes complete sense.

lost 1st January   found 2nd January  in the door pocket

I meant did you feel your football world had fallen in when you lost them or when you found them again! I take consolation that in terms of fight and effort we can't possibly be worse next Sunday even if we're Hammered.

  4. I think the fact that people going for a piss got me off my seat far more than anything on the pitch says it all.  As does the fact that it took us 96 minutes to show any sort of fight, and that was a scuffle off the pitch!

Yesterday was an utter disgrace. Williams and to a much lesser extent Pring the only ones who came out of that match with any credit at all.  I agree with the OP - I don't recall a duller afternoon watching City.  Yes, we've had worse results, but even in most of those we've had flashes of entertainment.  Yesterday there was nothing. The only game that sticks out to me was a 3-1(?) home defeat to QPR.  Only the second (and the last) match I've walked out early from.  I took the view then that if City couldn't be bothered to try I couldn't be bothered to stay, but even then we had something to cheer when we took the lead in that one.  If my boy had wanted to leave early yesterday I wouldn't have put up a fight.

  5. The OP sees acknowledging reality as celebrating failure, but that is a massive over simplification as it strips out all relativity.

We have never been a "successful" team by those metrics, but there is no problem with celebrating successes that are in line with where we are.

That doesn't stop us from aspiring to better ourselves.  The two are not mutually exclusive.  And as always, it's the hope that kills you!

As for moaning about wishing former players a happy birthday - where is the harm?  It's a nice little gesture from the media team and would largely improve the image of the club as opposed to damaging it, which can be beneficial when selling the club to prospective players, managers or supporters.  The little things mount up and this is just one of those things.  It's a strange thing to get frustrated over.

    1) The point is that they had the thought to produce enough stock and have it available to be sold

We hired an actual shop in the past

    2) What is the difference?

Two Cities, both with busy centre's

Obviously there is enough foot fall customers around otherwise there wouldn't been any shops there

    I've numbered above for ease...

    1) Stock is what's been lacking, no doubt about it.  That bit I was being a little sarcastic about.  In the past, we've had a shop prior to the Cabot rebuild (I think), as well as one in Quaker Friars and a pop up in John Lewis at Cribbs.  None of them were a rip roaring success.

    2) There isn't enough footfall in Broadmead I don't believe.  That's why there have been major stores leaving, such as M&S and also why the Galleries is being demolished and replaced with mainly apartments.  Shopping in Bristol City Centre has been in huge decline for many years now.  Public transport, traffic/road systems and parking have been a major contributing factor for this.

I was in Exeter over the weekend, was pleasantly surprised to see two pop up vans in the City centre, one selling Chiefs items and one selling City's stuff, hardly rocket science but someone else more forward thinking than us

A couple of things here really.

City's lack of a pop up shop could very well be based on experience.  We've had a few over the years and if they don't get the footfall then they're not going to be financially viable.

Secondly, what's the point in a pop up shop if we don't have the merchandise to fill the bloody thing?!?  The only thing we seem to have a decent line on in terms of merch is the golf stuff....which is probably in good stock because no bugger wants the stuff!

One last one is Harry Cornick. Poor bloke does work hard, but when he gets a break, well not sure what he was thinking. If he isn't clipped , not sure why he would go down as it looks like he could still get to the ball.

I don't think Cornick gets to the ball if he stays up.  The keeper picks that ball up but is essentially trotting by the time he gets there - Cornick staying on his feet I believe would change his out pace and he gets it easily.  At the time I thought he was clipped, but seeing the replays I think it's a case of his touch is heavy, he feels a slight arm in the back and so sends himself down in the hope of conning the ref into giving us a chance he'd lost.

Absolutely no problem with the Knight advantage. It really annoys me when refs give the advantage but then pull it back when the team loses the ball. It's either advantage or not.

Not booking him after was absolutely criminal though.

The idea behind the rule is to see if there's an advantage to play and if not to bring it out.  I don't know if there is a determinate amount of time this should be allowed to play out or if this is at the referees discretion however.  The term "playing the advantage" is more of a blanket term tbh.

One thing that bugged me during the match was the complete lack of involvement of the 4th official.  Dodds pretty much spent the entire match out of his technical area and this wasn't policed at all.  There was one incident in the Atyeo half of the pitch in front of the Lansdown where it looked as though the ball might have gone out of play, but the Linesman was unable to make a decision as there's no way he could've seen the incident because Dodds was almost on the pitch!  If you're gonna have a 4th official rather than a bloke who holds a board up then surely they should be officiating?!?

    If happens.
I’ve had a season ticket in the family stand with my daughter for the last 5 seasons now. She’s now 10. On average she’s probably been to about 5 or 6 games per season. And never any evening ones due to age/school night.
We have the ticket for 2 reasons a) so she can attend when she wants to and b) because it’s a good deal.

I don’t know if you have young kids, but even if you do, what your kids want and what other kids want will never be the same.
My daughter isn’t totally into football. But she likes to come down now and again for some daddy time. If it’s cold wet and windy she likely won’t want to come.

In my vicinity we have about 7 dads and about 11 kids tickets all together.
I can count 1 game in 5 years that all 18 people have shown up at the same time. Every game there will be at least one of the children who won’t be there (for varying reasons).

Not all kids are diehard supporters who will be there every week through thick and thin, rain and shine.

There is a fair argument to make that the lack of available seats in the South Stand is a bit of a problem, but let’s not pretend that once a child has a season ticket that they will be wanting to attend every single match. Or to use your words “be bothered”.

Oh, 100%.  I too was in a similar position with my own daughter.  Her twin brother took to it, but she didn't.  My point being is that I doubt it's the source of the problem as opposed to a mere contributing factor.

I would actually say that my fave for the main proportion of the blame more likely lies with people who buy a ticket to the cheapest part of the ground and then working their way to a better seat or to S82. Those that therefore have no preference for which seat they select as a a result.

He seems to get sympathy because he is a "squad player" and people see him as 2nd or 3rd choice, therefore expectation is lowered by some. However, he was brought in to replace Chris Martin, who many were saying shouldn't be playing, was a waste of a space on the bench etc. Martins legs had gone, wasn't good enough. So, Martin left, and we replaced him with someone who cost us another 300K, is probably on double what Chris Martin was on, and is not even a step up on Chris Martin. Martin may have regressed to a point that he wasn't good enough, but he still had the odd goal in him and done a job. Cornick has offered little, has cost money, is on a bigger wage than the player he replaced, and is barely better than the player he replaced. At Cornick's age, there was never going to be any sell on value in him, and he will be on pretty close to 10K a week, as an experienced player with goals to his name, he was never going to be on a League One or League Two wage, that's for sure. So, the facts are, at the end of the season, we will probably look to replace him. either loaning him out, or letting him go on a free, as Manning will want to bring in first team players, so any fringe players will drop down the pecking order. By this time, he will have cost us over £1m. This is not money well spent at all.  We could have signed an aging ex prem experienced impact player on 10-20K a week, to support the squad over the course of a year to eighteen months, and they would have had a equal or better effect, but also been able to guide our youth and help younger players learn.

I've no doubt that Cornick tries his best, but that isn't a free pass for being totally and utterly out of his depth at this level.

You're contradicting yourself in the first two points emboldened above.  So is he better than the player he replaced or not?

As for the second bit if your wages assumption is partially based on "with goals to his name" then that's where you're going wrong.  He "boasts" a 1 in 7 record.  That does not command a £10k salary and there's no way he was on that at Luton where he was unwanted.  As Fevs says it's highly unlikely he'll ever be on that money, so you're gonna need a better stick than that to beat him with.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think he's been a successful signing at all, but I also don't think we play the right system for him as he most certainly isn't a loan striker.

Yeah but the issue is there are consistently too many empty seats in what should be a sold out stand.

Everyone knows what is going on. People are buying dead cheap u12 seats, getting a free shirt & then not using the seat at all or for a child or mate who goes now & then.

There is little logic to this statement at all.  If your kid is bothered enough to want a £40 shirt, why wouldn't they be bothered about going?  Or similarly if you're bothered enough to want your kid to have a free £40 shirt why wouldn't you be bothered about taking them?  If you don't want to take them, you wouldn't spend £55 on a £40 shirt!

There will no doubt be cases where they're not able to go to every match, but again that would likely be more than "now & again".

To lump all the problems on under 12 season tickets is utterly dumbfounding!  As well as saying that the club should stop selling affordable kids tickets in the most affordable part of the ground!  As well as making that statement with the economy on its knees!

Fast forward 20 years and see how the resultant lost generation of fans makes a difference to the attendance.

Going to sell out to Season Ticket holders , impressive but a shame for members and the rest missing out.
    I did wonder if they will release any more as I thought the max (15%) was 9,200 but I just re read the OS posting;

We have secured the maximum allocation offered of 8,924 tickets for our trip to the London Stadium

Guess that's the lot then . Some will obviously come up in dribs and drabs but no more from WHU.

I think the keyword there is "offered" not "required".  If WHam decide to give us more then I'm sure the club will take this.  As someone else said though all it takes is for one STH to buy their seat to make the block unavailable to us - unless they relocate them after purchase, which is highly unlikely.

Yeah had that at Millwall once and another time at Leyton Orient many moons ago.

Must've been on the same coach as me for Orient.  Funnily enough the coach driver got lost, so followed a coach full of red and white, only to find out it was Man Utd fans when we turned up at, yep, Upton Park!

Perhaps it's not trendy but people are more comfortable about talking about their issues and don't see it as negatively as many used to? That's not necessarily a bad thing.

I was about to reply to your first comment above suggesting it came across as ignorant towards how hard it actually is to get a diagnosis.

I was then going to revoke the ignorant comment as it's clear you do realise how hard it is to get a diagnosis, then I read your last line. There are not "big numbers" that identify as a cat FFS 😂🤦‍♂️

There are big numbers.....there is a total of 1 people who identify as a cat.  Now I'm sure you'd agree that is a big number I've used there!

The point where a bunch of our fans started bullying a young kid was the low point for me.

The kid in red? I was stood next to the idiots who started the "Who's the fatty in the red".  I called the ringleader out for it. "You can't be shouting that a kid. FFS"  The response was "it's just ******* banter mate lighten up".  They were knobs for most of the match with one of them shoving a steward when he approached them to stop them vaping.  They clearly have an issue with stewarding as he went down to the front and nothing more was done.

The tactic that won us the game against a team that had lost 1 in 12 you mean? Imagine getting offended by a win.

Of course I wasn't offended, ya wally!  T'was just playing with the words.  However I do disagree that that specific tactic won us the game.  The first 30 mins we would receive the ball and almost immediately turn to face our own goal.  We won the game when we started taking it to them.  Started the second half in much the same way as we started the first and we lost a 2 goal lead within 7 mins.  Their equaliser was a fantastic example.  Playing the ball about the defence thereby inviting pressure, Tanner received the ball, looked one way (backwards) and was dispossessed.  When we took the game to Boro again we won it. Anyway, that's for another thread.

I would imagine that the "taking one for the team" offences would be the type of thing that would be covered by a sin bin. Pulling a shirt to stop a breakaway when too many men have been committed forwards for example.
