Joint second best defensive record before today. It takes time to get your back four right then you move to other areas of the team. Manning has done the same in his short time here albeit Vyner was back to the player of two years ago today. People who want managers to lose their job every six months really don’t have a clue.

Never said that I wanted him sacked, I said all along they should have let him.see out his contract and then moved on. Just pointing out over his time at City his defence and games thrown away late in the game was horrendous.

Rose tinted glasses me thinks from some people. As JL pointed out a large proportion of the fan base would probably not have had a problem before this season if City had let him go.

My only observation is that the keystone cops defending reappeared which had been eradicated by the previous management. Can't say I enjoyed the watch, particularly  first half, but loved the result.

You are joking. NP defences were some of the worst I have seen at City. The amount of games we threw away in the last few minutes should have cost home his job on its own.

Better than Friday. But that's like saying "this bucket of sick is less smelly than that one"

I was at Wembley Friday so missed out on his comms. I was having great fun with everyone else throwing paper aeroplanes at the pitch ( I'm a rebel).

  4. Slabheads was  one for me but not that one.

However, let's not let the referees performance deflect from another awful England performance.

More time was spent at Wembley on Friday by the fans making and throwing paper aeroplanes that watching the awful performance against Malta.

  5. I've picked out one key aspect from both NPs interview after the Cardiff game and the boy wonders on RB. Injuries. NP seems to go out of his way to talk about how they were all contact injuries and then JL spent a good portion of his interview talking about how the injuries were preventable.

I get the impression that conversations were already had between NP and the board about the state of injuries and wonder if NP knew they would be using it as a reason

Just wanted to share some thoughts.

This will undoubtedly be a time when old manager going / new manager coming in will see comments from posters, me included, giving our opinions and there will be debate for and against on both sides.

But…I see this as a small window of opportunity.

    +++++

We have had numerous debates over our time back in the Championship from the managers - Cotts to Johnson to Holden to Pearson, to the Finances, FFP, Covid, etc.  We can all defend our opinions with facts, speculation, and just the way we see it.

However it is clear to me (at least) that we enter a period where we:

    • don’t really have any manager “baggage”, no divide from posters who were fanboys of one but not the other.  It feels like a “decks cleared” time.
    • no financial issues, FFP at least!  We don’t know the owners funding aspirations / restrictions though.

So we can treat the new manager on merit, although slightly hindered initially by:

    • a small squad
    • injuries

We will have to wait until January to see if he is allowed to recruit.  At that point we will know whether the budget was just for the old manager or not.  But we can judge new manager accordingly, ie is he hamstrung by budget or not.

Re injuries, a slight tangent, most managers come in and first thing they say is they had to get the players fit.  Well, City are one of the hardest running teams in the division, so that excuse is not valid.  Availability is different.

Ultimately the foundations have been laid.  The new manager has the opportunity to build on them.

I suggest we wait and see who we get and judge them on what they do with Bristol City.

I thought all along that it was a tactical decision not to fund NP in the last window. The people in charge had all ready made their decision that he was going and and such were never going to give him much to spend apart from what was absolutely necessary.

If the rumours today about OOC players and NP not wanting is true then it makes sense from their position to get rid now and not wait till the summer.

    Nail on Head…….

Fact is nothing will change until Lansdown goes/sells up.
His legacy is a failed football club over the last 20 years. Treats the fans as punters. He is clueless, bad comms, no leadership, mistake after mistake, no connection with the fans.
Awful mess. It is far too easy for him to just “blame the manager”, which is what he will do.

I have had issues with SL for years ( in fact I have been slated in the past on here for my comments) but even I find some of this harsh.

I agree about the mistakes and punters bit but struggle with the rest. He has tried to do what is best for the club imo.

  8. For me the biggest difference between the teams last night was the use of the ball abd crossing was without doubt the weakest aspect of our game. We really got into some very good position but wasted so many potential chances by poor crossing. Even the cross that lead the Conway have a header on goal a yard behind him. If it had been in front I would have put money on that being a goal.

I don't recall seeing so many poor crosses in a game.

I really wonder how you would go about marketing BCFC to potential buyers. Firstly the deal is complex due to the Bristol Sport situation. If BCFC was separated I guess Bristol Sport would still own the stadium and we would effectively ground share with Bears. Most owners like to own the ground because it gives them fixed costs, additional income and an asset to use to secure finance.

So lets review, on the plus side: a mid table Championship team with a very good academy, excellent training facilities, reasonably young team on fair wages good fan base with potential to grow. On the negative side, very complex structure to unravel. Hasn't made a profit for ever and relies on selling best young players to stay on the right side of FFP, no CEO in place, pricing probably does not reflect the product on offer and is based more on its potential.

For me the biggest negatives are the complexity of Bristol Sport and an owner who seems happy to wait whilst the club ticks over.

Bristol sport do not own Ashton Gate, however, it would be very complex with regards to how integrated the football rugby basketball etc are becoming

Andre Gray, like the others mentioned (apart from Gayle who was a bit of an after thought and never a serious target) were "done deals". At least that's what Cotts believed before going on a break.

In my opinion of course 🙄

If you are ever lucky enough to be walking around the waterfront and see him, he is always open to a chat. In that chat he will tell you exactly that.

  11. And the rest

They just have that little bit more class with the ball.

I thought we played well on the whole against a team that are starting to look like they are getting it together and will be in the mix for automatic promotion.

A good test and one in previous years we would have lost our heads after they took the lead and came at us

Now for the drive home. Safe travels for all the very loud fans today.
