Agree, I’m surprised that considering his age, past health problems and the fact he rarely has a plan b, that after missing out so closely in the playoffs a few years ago that he didn’t quit then. Though Torquay themselves must take some blame for giving him a contract that long that they couldn’t afford if promotion didn’t happen. Really hope they survive this without dropping too much, they still average over 2000 stuck in mid table in the sixth tier, so there’s an appetite for football in the town.

Yes I’ve a vague memory of that. The one’s at Taunton were called single wicket competitions, I think Viv was involved in at least one and maybe even Clive Rice and Richard Hadlee as well as Imran and Proctor. It was all a bit contrived and didn’t really prove anything, just a bit of fun which is why my memory of it isn’t great. I’m sure some will remember more

On the subject of all rounders, who remembers the all rounder clashes we had at Taunton in the late 70s? It was mainly Botham versus another all rounder and they both batted and bowled to each other with a team of fielders. I can remember Botham v Proctor, maybe Botham v Imran. There were definitely more and I don’t remember Botham coming out on top too many times.

May is a beautiful month in the mountains when the sun is shining, especially if you enjoy flora and fauna. It can be a very showery month though and those can be of a wintry nature, especially on the high ground. Although having said that weather patterns in the world are so mad, who knows? Depending how the winter season finishes there could still be a lot of snow on the mountain paths, this can add to the beauty of the stunning vistas but may hinder you on your bike in places. Anyway, I’m sure you’ll really enjoy it. There are few things better for your physical and mental health than time spent in the mountains.

I was way too skint back then to have the choice of being tight or not. How things change, on my last visit to London to watch City, West Ham, I probably spent more on trains, food & drink, hotel etc, than I’d spend in a couple of months back then. Of course there’s one thing that’ll always be consistent in our lives, our football club. Still in the same two divisions we’ve been in for 40 years, still losing cup games we should have won, still beating some real good teams followed very quickly by losing to relegation threatened teams…… rich or poor you’ve got to love our club!

I remember turning up at Charlton without a ticket hoping to get one on the day. I remember I was skint and got a cheap bus up from Bristol earlier in the day and hoped I could get a ticket at face value as I didn’t have a penny more. Waiting near the main entrance I recognised one of our directors, can’t remember his name but he wore quite big glasses. Anyway I asked him if he had any spare tickets and he produced one from his pocket and gave it to me for nothing. What with taking my own packed lunch I doubt I spent more than £15 the whole day including transport.

Yes I know what you mean. I can remember going with my grandad in the mid/late 70s and thinking how brilliant it would be to be retired and spending large chunks of the summer watching the greatest cricketers in the world at Taunton, Bath and Weston. Now I’m just a few years away from retiring I’m not 100% sure there’ll be much worth watching by the time I get there.

I once saw him hit six consecutive sixes off Denis Breakwell at Taunton, the reason it’s not talked about as much is because it was 2 off the last 2 balls of his over then 4 off the first 4 of his next. In an era where we were spoilt rotten in county cricket, getting to see the worlds best week in week out, Proccie was one of the best all rounders and I always enjoyed watching against Somerset.

Loved seeing the kit in the flesh, thought it looked great. Of course there was no chance of buying one. I did go into the club shop and it was quite funny watching people’s reactions when they walked in, we’ve got less stock than Taunton Town now. In fact if you took out the Bears stuff the amount left could have been taken around the ground to sell a bit like those looky looky men you see on the holiday beaches abroad.

Wouldn’t have been better if the club moved it to 12.30 months ago? That way the police would be happy, if Sky chose it it may have been 12.30 they wanted and it certainly would never have been 3 o’clock. And then if Sky had moved it again at least they would get the blame. Plus, haven’t Sky chosen their games for that period weeks ago? What an utter shambles

Yeah it is great to see them at the ground. I had a chat with Geoff Merrick, Tom Ritchie and Gerry Sweeney a week or two ago. All of them such lovely blokes. Just to chat to anyone about memories from 40 odd years ago is great but to chat to people you idolised about memories they were creating for you was priceless.
