Can you imagine the flack he would rightly get if Tammy missed and we then dropped points? Game was in the balance, he is our designated penalty taker, he had to take it.

Almost fluke'ish the reobound. He hits it over the bar, we still have 11 players!

If anyone gave him flack after the way he played, they'd deserve to be shot. However, I accept its down to opinions

Rate the analysis but disagree regarding the penalty. Tomlin is our designated penalty taker and the game wasn't over so he should take it. If we were 5-0 up then fair enough if he wants to give someone a hat trick but not at that point.

Although clearly with hindsight I can understand why others would disagree

I do get that, but I felt before he took it he should have given the ball to Tammy and I still believe that now. Imagine the boost you give an 18 year old kid getting his first career hat-trick. The only person who gains from Tomlin scoring that penalty is Tomlin. But, he is the designated penalty taker

  3. I'm home and trying to dry out and calm down (I live in Sheffield)

11 on 11 we were the better team. That's the crumb of comfort I'm clinging to here. However, we bottled it after the two sendings off- completely lost our heads and I think that's very worrying. Everything that was good in the first half just went out the window at 10 v 10 and we should have had the advantage; we were quicker than them for an hour and passed the ball better. We ran them ragged first half and yet we were blowing out our arses in the last 10

The penalty was as clear as they come and while I appreciate that Tomlin is the designated penalty taker, why the **** wouldn't he give it Tammy? He can only lose from that situation- if he scores so what. If he misses he looks like a**** who's just robbed an 18 year old of a hattrick. O'Neil's sending off was bullshit. HOWEVER you make a tackle like that, on a yellow card, after the ref has just sent a home player off, he's going to even things up

So what was good. Tammy is an absolute beast. It's my first game of the season, I didn't expect him to be so physically dominant. Magnusson is clearly a top quality player, needs to work on his heading but his positioning and awareness are excellent and he's got a great pass on him. O'Dowda was also good, Bryan excellent and Brownhill was also very good first half

The bad. Tomlin is part of the problem here folks. We want everything to go through him, but he just can't keep up with Tammy, COD or even Brownhill or Bryan. Then when he does get the ball he's holding on and holding on because he wants to be the one who plays the killer ball rather than just having the play go through him. Johnson either needs to find a different way to utilise him or bench him from my small viewing sample

Midfield- Pack is too passive in a game like that, that's why O'Neil was having to make the kind of challenges that got him sent off. Pack is great when we have possession and are dominating play, he doesn't influence it enough when we're chasing the ball

Flint- from the sublime to the ridiculous. He's making mistakes and he needs to cut it out

Management- Johnson didn't do enough to influence that game and when he did, he frankly got it wrong. He brought Bobby Reid on to the right wing when Adam Reach was running riot. Bobby then constantly drifted inside, giving Reach so much room and space. It needed a proper winger on there to a) get behind him and b) reduce the space he had. Bobby was either poorly instructed or poorly disciplined

Anyway, rant over. Hopefully some lessons will be learnt and some improvements made. The 1st half needs to be the norm and the 2nd half needs to be learnt from

To those having a go at freeman. He's much improved this season. If he can manage to score, he may become the player he was 14/15

I think Freeman was too comfortable the start of last season- he knew we didn't really have another creative, attacking midfielder to replace him with and he got a bit complacent. Once Tomlin and Odemwingie came in it shook him up a bit, even more so over the summer with the additions we've made. To be honest, I no longer think he should be a starter, but the competition could be the making of him

Somebody said AV ran out of steam towards the end of a recent game, perhaps they are not that fit. Saying that, don't take the shine off of City's comeback.

That was me, but Huddersfield play a hard pressing game and ground them down over the match. I think this is us finding another few gears and beating them through good play

  6. People seem to be more opposed to the abstract concept of the the 5 pillars than what they actually entail. Other than the only signing players under 24 pillar- which I think works as long as your allowed to break it- I really don't see how anyone could object. And as others have said, if the right player comes along over 24 we'll go for them, I just think that should be expressed in the statement. There needs to be pragmatism and there needs to be experienced heads to guide all these whippersnappers we want to sign

It might be 373 years since the Battle of Leeds but it also feels that long since we got anything up there. Have we beaten them since that cup tie when Gillies scored?

I've only been to see City play there once (2010-ish when Nicky Hunt had one of several performances that rank along the worst I've seen in a City shirt) - it's a good weekend away so I'm envious of the City fans at the game today.

Hoping for a win - it would be nice to get out of the bottom three asap.

That Nicky Hunt game at Leeds was ridiculous. Winning 1-0 when he came on with about 20 min left I think, lost 3-1 iirc? It's the only time I've ever watched a match and can genuinely say that it was rank incompetence of a single player that lost us a game. I was in a box with a load of Leeds fans. The copious free booze compensated slightly

The only comparable performance in recent times was Fontaine at Sheff Wed under McInnes. An awful match between two awful teams and Fonts played like they'd picked up a drifter at Woodhall Servies on the way up. We won 3-2 though, Albert scoring a free kick at the death

  8. I'm home looking after the baby today, but hope everyone has a great day up there and a good result come 5pm

If people are up there for a drink, Tapped (as previously mentioned) is excellent, the Head Of Steam is close to the station and decent or you could visit The Hop, The Cross Keys or The Midnight Bell which are all (kind of) on the way to the ground

For quick eats go to the food court in Trinity centre, if you like burgers try Almost Famous or Meat Locker in the town centre

Thoughts on the banning of the toss?

Not convinced myself, though I'm glad they're doing something to try and breathe a bit of life back into the county 4 day game. You'll just end up with either flat, lifeless wickets or wearing ones that favour the team bowling last. It won't help create international-class players and won't help make results. I think it'd go down like a lead balloon, but perhaps limiting the overs in the 4 day game might help create results and excitement- perhaps 90 overs per innings? It'd undoubtedly be a nail in the coffin of the longer format, but that's dying all by itself at the minute anyway, so what do we have to lose?

  11. Happy with a point to be honest. Hull have obvious quality, but primarily are a team of bullies and were much more physical than we were. They have very little cutting edge up top though, so conceding that goal was irritating because I don't think they'd have scored without what was a pretty shocking collective mistake from the defence. I don't think we played particularly well tbh, we made poor decisions in our own half and I felt Pack was especially poor, Kodjia faded and Freeman tried too hard and kept messing up. Still, a point from a game I was fairly sure we'd lose is ok
