  1. Call me naive if you like, but the fact we have produced some good performances under him, makes me feel the situation isn't definitely unfixable.

I should preface this by saying I've only watched one of the past three defeats, but even that game - plus how outclassed we were by a Leeds side that were on the back foot against 10-man Huddersfield on Saturday - does show me there are huge, huge problems.

We have 8 games and if we're going to plunge into trouble, I'm not sure a new man would have long enough to prevent that. Personally, I'd hope there are enough mediocre teams below us all swirling around and occasionally playing each other, which will keep us safe, providing we bank a few more points.

If it remains as shit. If we finish in the lower reaches, he should depart in the summer and give a new man a chance to work with the players, identify problem areas and recruit accordingly.

I haven’t scrolled thru this thread so apologies if this has already been mentioned - players disembarking from the team bus wearing headphones…….clear message to any waiting fans saying “don’t bother me”

    That really irritates me.

It's an age thing. My daughters have their air pods in pretty much all the time they aren't in lessons or hanging with their friends. I'm used to be a dad who is seen but not heard. All their friends' parents say the same.

  3. I'd like Steve Lansdown to sell up and major changes at the club.... BUT I've watched us worse than we are now.

I watched us in the old 4th Division, I watched us with even more boring and sterile managers, I watched us on worse runs, with worse players and I can even name a worse chairman!

So I'll continue to watch us. It's what I do for 2/3rds of the year - and as I explained elsewhere, it isn't just about the football.

It is probably an experienced second coach - our structure rules out a DoF as that treads on Tinnions toes. To be fair you can call it what you want though. If you asked (for example, not suggesting) Joe Jordan to come in as a consultant his title doesn’t matter - it’s what he brings to the table.

One of the (many) issues I think Liam has is that he’s blinded by the process - and the book he’s read is the same one “Hoggy” has read. So I think he needs a different viewpoint, to see what the book doesn’t tell him. Major caveat here is that I think he believes in the process so much that he may not show willingness to take it.

Therein lies the problem as explained in the first line.

I think we could have the most experienced coach in the world advising Manning; as long as Tinnion's recruiting the players and fulfilling that DOF role, it won't work in the long run.

This latest balls up is the final nail for me and convinced me that not only is SL incapable of making the correct decisions to take our club forward, but he does actually seem pretty good at scuppering genuine progress, on the rare occasions when we see some green shoots appearing.

He’s also proving that even after 20+ years, he’s learned absolutely nothing from his previous mistakes and continues making new ones.

The only reason I’m probably renewing is I don’t want to lose the excellent seat I’ve had in the SS since it opened.  It certainly isn’t due to any trust or even liking of Lansdown and any hope things will significantly improve under him.  I’m already bracing myself for another season of being absolutely bored shitless.

Why do we do this to ourselves??

Always been a streak of masochism in following City

Steve cotterill not appointed by Lansdown apparently but by Kieth  Dawe . So imo he can’t take credit for him . His legacy on the pitch has been a failure

People often say that, but as the 99% owner, Lansdown had to approve Dawe's recommendation, so in that sense, yeah, he was appointed by Lansdown.

  7. I suppose the real tragedy was it was all so unnecessary.  If Pearson had us bumping around the relegation zone or in that area, I might agree that he had taken us as far as he could. But, to the contrary, the slow trend was of upward improvement. It was a steady rebuild. A reformation.

A really good manager can make average players perform well, which I think we have seen in dribs and drabs this season. A poor manager will make average players look below average, which is what we've definitely seen in the last three games.

We can only hope that Manning is learning that you can't keep doing the same thing and expect a different result.

As for me, I've adopted the @Fordy62 approach of not caring as much about the club and its results. I looked at yesterday's result, didn't follow the game that closely, but read some of the comments from those that had and friends who were there and shrugged it off with a disappointed curse word and got on with enjoying my weekend.

I've toyed with the idea of not renewing the season. I know some of my matchday companions aren't. I probably will though as the ritual of the day and its social/drinking dimension are part of my life. Luckily, I don't go to watch Bristol City to see entertaining football!

I think that Carey going on to be the all time BCFC player and Scotty being the legend he is and employed forever makes for a very very good decision in coming back. The point being is that the likes of Fam etc perhaps would have had a better career by staying as opposed to chasing a bigger pay cheque.

Then again,  Scott and Webster and a few others may well disagree!!

I think Fam would've stayed - or at least he claims he would - but the club had to do a radical Post-Covid reduction in playing costs.

I remember his last games where he seemed very disgruntled and hardly put in an effort up field. Thing is. he may not have attacked much in his last season, was still a better defender than most of those we employed to fulfill that role. 🤣

"No one whatsoever" has witnessed a great deal of terrible Lansdown shenanigans on these very pages.

But getting back to my earlier point- there have been a number of good players at BCFC who have  refused to sign, wound down their contract, only to take a career nose dive . The likes of Carey and Murray made a better choice when discovering the greener grass was harder to mow.

Dunno about that last assertion. Murray made 40 appearances for a promotion-bound side, but Coppell next season didn't want him. Louis made 27 appearances for Coventry, then a league above us, swerved the Tinnion managerial car-crash but then returned to a revitalised Gary Johnson side that got promoted.

I'd say both made reasonable career choices there and both went on to enjoy lengthy and successful times at City after deciding to return. Which incidentally disproves all those posters who say "never go back" when talking about players or managers.

I'd completely forgotten about the Bristol accent thing with Maynard- what did his son end up with?  McTaffney?

Or an Ecky Thump one like Maynard himself.

TBH the thing that really annoyed me was the made up charge that City fans attacked his mother in the stand and threw a bottle at her. Something witnessed by no one whatsoever.

    Joe Bryan- agree 100%

Players leaving to further their careers like Maynard ,Fam and Massengo- it's just a tiny weeny bit funny when they don't especially when they find that BCFC was their finest moment.

Fam sort of switched off when he knew his future wasn't here and cruised to the end of his time here, but at least he didn't badmouth the club and slander fans like Maynard. We got decent service out of him for three-and-a-half seasons, I bear him no ill will. As an African, there's no reason why he should buy into the Bristol/Cardiff rivalry.

Twitter, or X if you prefer is sometimes a source of good info. It’s also home to some batshit crazy people. And because I look at a lot of City content on there, I get things recommended in the “for you” section that are linked to the club.

Leaving aside that it recommends Ian Gay on that basis, today it’s shown this in my “for you” tab.

Now this isn’t a slight on Medube because he may end up having a decent loan spell, but this may be the most insane city comment I’ve ever seen on Twitter.

    Can anyone better it?

Didn't know he had a boyfriend.

  13. I never see the point of booing former players unless they leave us under contentious circumstances or slag the club or city off. They're just people doing a job. It seems so petty and tinpot to routinely boo ex-playets. Gas-type behaviour.

If he acknowledges us City fans, he'll get a brief clap back for the courtesy. But that's it.

During the game, he's just another Cardiff player and I hope he has a shocker.

You probably had a far longer view Lrrr but I saw him in U21 ganevatbthe Gate after he arrived and he showed everything he is now in terms of being a livewire , ability to beat a man , quick feet , and busy busy busy - he probably worked harder than I’ve ever seen for a player in U21 games

The only thing absent in that game was his finishing

Ge certainly has improved but at the time he looked as if he could have a real X factor once he broke into regular starts

    Shame

He looked pretty lost in his one league start (v Swansea) and just totally didn't impose himself in his two quite lengthy sub appearances thereafter. That said, 3 league and one cup game is not enough time to totally write off and clearly another loan rather than just selling him would - in hindsight - have been a better option.

He was with us 5 years ago and although he'd done great at L2 level with Colchester, I didn't necessarily see how he'd develop. Other players who looked exciting prospects for us five years ago, have not pulled up any trees since.  It's an inexact science predicting how young players will develop and I'm not going to beat up anyone at the club at the time who saw what I did - a L2 player who looked like he was really struggling to adapt to Championship football.

Szmodics is 28 now and right on what is usually the peak performance year as a striker.  You can do no more than shrug your shoulders and say the time and place just wasn't right here in 2019. Over the 50+ years I've followed City there are lots like that.

It’s always positive when a City loanee does well at whatever club they’re at but it’s worth remembering that they’re invariably playing in the lower leagues.essentially to gain experience of playing competitive mens football.

No need to get too excited about Seb scoring another goal but it’ll do his confidence no end of good.

I'm not about to take up verbal arms in a Taunton vs Yeovil rivalry given that it is decades since I lived there! I haven't been back for years and wouldn't have a clue about bands.

All I'll say is that 'have the NME ever done a one-page special on the Taunton music scene?'  No - I rest my case. 🤣

These days, Taunton is a soulless dump and Yeovil is a depressing dump. In my opinion. Yeovil's still got a better music/art/nightlife scene though. As long as you avoid its remaining pubs. 😬

Edit: Jenny Agutter and both my daughters were born in Taunton though, so that earns it some plus points.
