  1. He played Alan Dicks in this film about the 1982 Ashton Gate Eight affair. I think Jose Ferrer played Trevor Tainton....
  2. One of them things, like there being no arsenal in London N5, or there being no port in Burslem.
  3. At 500 years old, he might not be considered "one for the future".
  4. We ate in the middle of that market (La Boqueria) in the amusingly named El Quim. Fantastic paella and great Spanish wine selection.
  5. You are correct, but nonetheless he was one of the many that got away. Brum had been a more successful club than us in the mid-60s, but by 69/70 they weren't. We should have been a more attractive prospect.
  6. Just him. Hopefully Wade Elliott will tell him: "You've got a friend".
  7. Trevor Francis was a notable one from the dawn of time. Not that we ever deemed him worthy to be on our books after his trial with us.
  8. Think that's reading too much into it. any young striker should have loads of self-belief and drive, and Louis has that and was obviously disappointed to be released before getting a chance to get fit after a lengthy injury. He's quite clear, he'd rather have had the chance to prove himself with a L2 loan, and I'm not sure why that option wasn't pursued, if - as he says - there were interested clubs. However, he mentions he "doesn't hold grudges", he's out to prove himself in Ireland, with an obvious view to getting an English club interested in him. He's hardly "criticising" the club, or Nigel Pearson, as the URL suggests, merely mulling on his disappointment and making clear he wants to return to an English league club. And remember, the quotes the Post used will have been carefully selected to make it look like he's bitter.
  9. I had the worst holiday of my life there. My wife and I were staying in the Port Gaverne hotel just outside town with a couple of friends and the owner and staff were consistently rude and brusque. Later they managed to give our friends food poisoning and rather than being sympathetic, insisted they be turfed out of their rooms at 9am, while I drove to Port Isaac to try to source some Imodium, not helped by the locals who were as offish as the hotel staff were. This was in the late 90s, so maybe the hotel has changed hands since. Or hopefully been demolished.
  10. The late Gene Pitney was an unlikely Lincoln City fan.
  11. Surely you can return a product that is faulty for up to a month under the Sale & Goods Act.
  12. I'm a logician, apparently. But it wasn't very logical of me to take that test when I'm racing to meet a work deadline.
  13. Climate has fluctuated over the millennia, but it is the present trajectory of change that is concerning. Despite that nonsense you linked to, no one "was warning" about an imminent ice age in the 1950s and 60s because full ice ages take several thousands of years to come in and then last for millions of years. We are theoretically still in a "cool period" of the earth's climate: a period that has allowed humans to develop agriculture and civilization. Why current fluctuations are a matter for concern is the speed with which they are happening - largely the last 100 years. If the same climate changes had occurred over multiple thousands of years, then that could be seen as natural geothermic evolution. But it isn't - and see the 22,000-year timeline here to see how dramatic it is changing in the present time: https://xkcd.com/1732/?fbclid=IwAR2f-NL4omNaX6w9vRpzjckXNyY2YXgOgunrGWqKRc2le8aK_PoL4uBhnHE That this is caused by greenhouse gas emissions and deforestation driven by the way we live today is not doubted by 98% of the scientists working in the field. Obviously not by the oil company-funded, neoconservative "think tank" the American Enterprise Institute, who get articles written on climate change by businessmen rather than scientists.
  14. South Bristol IS Somerset. We will reclaim it....
  15. One of the pleasures of living in a Georgian cottage is the walls are built like an effin' castle, so it's nice and cool in summer. Ask me about the heating bill for winter, later.
  16. But we did sign his cousin, Scott Golbourne.
  17. You could tell he was the real deal when he was young, and he carried that menace on into his acting:
  18. Yup. I was there just in front of the stage. First TFF gig for me and I was impressed by how good their voices were and the musicianship was, and how the songs had stood the test of time. Roland's Jagger impersonation was worth hearing as well. In their 80s heyday, I'd have scoffed at the idea of going to such a concert, but you grow up and become less judgemental.
  19. Robbored's theme tune:
  20. I recall people criticising him because he "didn't look like he enjoyed his football". Who cares! He scored goals. Signing for a Portsmouth area amateur club allows him to continue playing, it's not too big a journey to get to his coaching job in Bournemouth and allows easy ferry and flight access to his native Jersey.
