  1. Are you talking about biscuits or grannies?
  2. They always taste a bit stale to me. As for Lincoln, it's of interest to me as the birthplace of the tank.
  3. Quite. By his own admission he is a "grumpy git". It's an occupational hazard when you are in your late 50s. I know.
  4. Because I share custody of my kids, I very rarely go to away games. I need at least every other weekend during the season for family time. Nothing about such a choice makes you disloyal. The 100% attender has circumstances that permit that. Most of us have reasons why we can't do that. Bonus points for you HE if you identify this reference:
  5. Very much a granny choice. Like the other biscuit named after a city - Nice.
  6. Lovely city, horrible biscuits.
  7. Tim Page, war photographer and the inspiration for Dennis Hopper's gonzo character in Apocalypse Now. If anyone is as fascinated with the Vietnam war as I am, I recommend his memoir of the conflict: Page After Page.
  8. Exactly, should be winnable for the Mallet.
  9. It's a real achievement for Shepton Mallet to get this far.
  10. Obviously never heard of the BBC Sports website or Final Score for that matter. Plus, most local radio football shows also read the classified scores. But that said, that's the least divvy thing about his post.
  11. I went to the Clockwork Rose, behind St Nicholas Market a couple of years ago. Pre-pandemic, it was a pretty buzzy little bar. I believe it's still going. The only other place I've had cocktails in central Bristol was the Reina, which is below the Radisson Blu near the Harbour. That's OK, but Saturdays there is definitely a pre-club crowd and it can get a bit 'Sharon & Tracey'.
  12. Aye, they'll have been dancing on the streets of Guildford, Penzance and Newbury last night.
  13. Yep, said this on another thread. Pearson's a guy to look beyond favourites, and reward hard work in training and in matches.
  14. They were great. Couple of loose passes by Atko, but as you say, there is such a lot to his game that you can forgive that, cut out all their corners and he scored a goal (again). I think he's destined to be a City cult hero of the future. Naismith was superb and my MOTM. For a defender, he's got great close ball control. You can see why he's sometimes played MF, he can dribble, which many defenders can't. Vyner hasn't just won the manager over, but the crowd now. Rarely put a foot wrong. Got turned once, but was generally resolute. Good passer of the ball upfield as well. More than earned his corn. It's interesting that we start the season playing, not for the first time, our manager's not preferred starting XI - and get results. It goes to show I think that sometimes you shake things up and they fall down in the perfect order.
  15. Got into decent positions then never did anything. I thought "this is familiar"....
  16. I think this is an important point. Pearson strikes me as a fair manager. If you get the chance and take it, you will be rewarded. It isn't all about favourites and "the usual". He will be straight with players like Wells and Vyner when they don't make the team, but also allow them a fair chance to redeem themselves and win their place back.
  17. Good luck with that. I got all-cleared in 2020 and am now as healthy as I was 10 years ago. Back in the gym and losing weight - yes, I gained during cancer because I didn't exercise much. Your choice on that horrible day was absolutely correct and I hope eventually your siblings will realise that. Your wife is here with us, your mother unfortunately not, so it's support the living and there are a multitude of ways you can honour the dead. Mrs Robbo's sister lost an eye, but is now able to drive with glasses, so, if your missus wants to, she may eventually get her wheels back.
  18. Edgar Street was a nice little ground. Watched one of our games against them from the directors' box - back in the midst of time (70s). Can't remember the score alas, but can remember dad got pissed on complementary booze and mum had to drive home, much to her annoyance, which was doubled when she realised she'd left behind one of her ghastly hats. Edit: Just looked it up. It was 1974 and we beat them 1-0 in the FA Cup to set up the famous games v Leeds.
  19. Lesson: Never appoint a manager who is a half-rhyme with your club.
  20. The second line merely demonstrates how shite their home gates are. FTG
  21. Or the car park next to the station, which is not expensive compared to central London options. Another option is to get on the M3 and park at Basingstoke on The Anvil (a theatre with parking on the roof), which is 2 minutes' walk to Basingstoke railway station, from whence you are an hour regular service away from London. Long-term parking at The Anvil is really good value.
  22. Went over the line, bounced out, then bounced back in again, a la Alan Partridge football commentary. ?
  23. It was dreadful stuff. If ever work was "phoned in", that was it. Judging by Gav's comment, it still is.
  24. Every week at BBC Sport Online, usually after extensive badgering, Crooks would submit a feature called "Garth Crooks' Team of the Week": the 11 best-performing players in the Prem. It was not infrequent for these teams to feature players who had not played that week, were injured, or in one case - had left the club and country. You'd put in your own choices in those cases, to save GC embarrassment.
