  1. It might at least indicate that the bus exists. In Street, you have nothing to let you know if the service has been cancelled so you end up standing there like a nondy.
  2. It's why I've started using the bus. Bit of a fag. I have to drive to get to a suitable bus stop, and First Group aren't the most reliable, nor do they seem to think us country dwellers deserve the live-time information boards you get in Bristol, HOWEVER the petrol saving and lack of parking hassles are the clincher. Oh plus I'm being "green", getting a bit of a walk and can enjoy more post-match drinks if I want to
  3. It is, but in his film the bits shot in Staines make it look rather drabber and suburban than it actually is.
  4. Desired association with Richmond-upon-Thames, I expect. Funnily enough, I read that the football club was leading local opposition to the move.
  5. I stayed in Staines once. It was quite pleasant, leafy and middle-class. Nice walks along the riverbank. Not what you'd expect from Ali G etc. It's now Staines-upon-Thames having changed its name in 2012 to sound more posh.
  6. Re: Orient. There are a lot of league clubs that have in the past been named after things that aren't where they are based: our, ahem, "friends" The Black Arabs for instance. Forest Green, although a tiny area of a tiny town, is a place. It's Scotland where you get loads of clubs not named after the place they are based. If you can name them all "they'll be dancing on the streets of Raith tonight!"
  7. This is correct. However I didn't count it in the same way as Woolwich Arsenal, as Port vale were founded as Port Vale, changed to Burslem Port Vale then dropped the geographic reference 20 years later. Ironically, when they were known as Burslem Port Vale they didn't play in Burslem, but now that they are just Port Vale they DO play in Burslem. If you wonder how I know all this shite, it's because I have a Stokie mate.
  8. Everton is an area of Liverpool, Queen's Park is an area of north-west London (although QPR aren't based there). There isn't part of Stoke-on-Trent called Port Vale however.
  9. Also, of course, the only English league club not named after a geographical location. You can add Arsenal now, but of course they had Woolwich in their name until 1914.
  10. As a classic letter to Viz pointed out, Carlsberg Special has a crest on the front saying it is "made by appointment to the Royal Danish Court". We think some of our Royals are bad, but at least they don't hang about in parks having fights with imaginary opponents and shitting themselves.
  11. @Calculus worked out the right area, without quite finding the right answer. It would have to be a current L2 side to have played newbies Sutton United and Harrogate, plus it had to be a team that was more successful in the past to have played the big Prem clubs.
  12. Gettin' blunted wiv the Backwell Mandem, brah.
  13. They did love him down there, but I doubt he'll want to drop to non-league again.
  14. I saw this on Twitter so won't spoil it. We last played this club in 2015 and in our last 9 fixtures against them they took just 1 point. So, they'd very much be a "can we play you every week?" side for City.
  15. The thing to do SC is use your time productively, like I do. I used my "spare" weekend by going on the piss,.
  16. May be the only time "5-2, and you ****ed it up!" has ever been sung.
  17. I know. Where are our South American scouts?! For a modest sinecure from City, I'd be prepared to base myself in Rio and scour the beaches for people who look good in a kickaround. I might concentrate on finding talent for our women's team mostly though....
  18. Yup. A player from our Alan Dicks era First Division squad told me that he used to earn £800 a week basic back then. Not a bad crack in 1980: probably equivalent to a company director or an established barrister etc in those days. Now, a top tier player even at a smaller club would be earning more than CEOs of many multinational businesses. Only film stars, successful City traders and gangsters will be earning more.
  19. I guess the difference now is who would put their hands in their own pockets to help out footballers earning hundreds of thousands of pounds a year to play at the foot of the second tier of football.
  20. Terry Dicks was really a vile man. He was elected by the less discerning electors of Hayes. Thank God he never represented a Bristol constituency.
  21. Although I agree with much of the OP, I can't agree that Weimann "should be gone". Where the f- would our season be without him? Bottom three perhaps. Maybe there might be a chance that we could have landed some cheaper lower league forward who might have stepped up a level and scored 18 goals by mid- March,. But that's one hell of a maybe. Unfortunately, you have to pay a premium for goalscorers. They are the most expensive part of a team. The list of "handsomely paid" players who shouldn't be here is long, but it doesn't include AW.
  22. Certainly didn't disgrace himself and bar a couple of dodgy passes, I was impressed by how he fitted in. He is 24 now, so no longer a very young player and at the start of the season it was a case of if he can't do it now at this level, he never will. His loan career shows the progress, from excelling at Conference South level to playing L2 then L1. It's Baker's injury that gave him that chance of a breakthrough really, but he's an ongoing option and the more he plays, the more he'll improve.
  23. He could have rolled about on the pitch before the match. That would've flattened the surface nicely.
  24. They won the Grand Slam. This is the best French side this century. To be honest, rugby is not the main sport of most English men and there are large swathes of the population who do not give a hoot about it. However it is the national sport of Wales, which is why I would imagine it is more embarrassing to lose at home to a country where rugby is something like the 6th most popular sport and only played by a tiny fraction of the population.
