  1. Still too complicated for me. Our manager used to bring a Subbuteo set to training and use it to illustrates our various errors from the previous game!
  2. What I was happiest with today was not that we could threaten a Top 6 side, it was that the players competed for 96 minutes in a game that was pretty meaningless to them. We haven't always seen that level of commitment towards the end of a season.
  3. James Linington is the absolute pits IMO.
  4. Well yet more confirmation of madness in the Robbo family, I have renewed my ST. With the disquiet over the club's direction; some questions regarding Big Nige, and the prospect of few if any new players this summer - all coupled with an ongoing Cost of Living Crisis, I wonder how many will not renew for 22/23.
  5. I'd sub Ricky Foster for Lavin there. To be fair to Lavin, he always took out his man - whether that was on the pitch or in the crowd.
  6. The very fact that we had a summer of recruitment then, is something we may not have this year. ?
  7. These one past manager v another past manager v another past manager etc etc posts are so tedious. They are full of hypotheticals and tell us nothing about our present dilemma. Like every City fan I loved the 14/15 season. I wish my dad had been alive to see it. But lets not pretend City weren't a well-resourced club in L1 that year, and let's equally not pretend we are well-resourced by Championship standards 21/22. Our present travails, having to rely on multiple youth players in the second tier, hoping we don't get a points deduction, make most previous seasons look rosy. But there's nothing rosy about L1. Playing clubs with mainly <10K attendances. I like nostalgia about great matches. I just don't like pointless "if only" arguments.
  8. Prevent me from going mad by reminding me what programme this was from?
  9. Thank goodness someone feels the same as me. The amount of man-love for a bloke who consistently tried to cheat us out of points is turning my guts.
  10. Er, we beat them last time we played them.
  11. Parts are overground and parts are underground, most of the Newcastle city centre travel is within tunnels. Which is actually the case with nearly all London Underground lines as well. I'd guess this would be the template for any Bristol service, but until we see any detailed plans, we wont know. I, personally, can't see the finance being there for this sort of thing nowadays.
  12. That always made me laugh. SL can't have studied the economics of clubs in the English Football League much before he came out with that doozy.
  13. The OP is using stats like a drunk uses a lamp post: For support rather than illumination.
  14. I think that's an example of a "backronym" - someone taking a word and then building a back story around it as a way of explaining it. Other examples include people claiming posh stood for 'port out, starboard home' (it didn't) and pom meant 'prisoner of her majesty' (it also never did). Any cockney geezer will tell you n*n** is just short for a 'nonsense': a prison term for those interested sexually in children.
  15. He may be a buffoon, but I don't think we can blame him for the shit way the government privatised the railways, the shit way major planning applications are dealt with and can be almost indefinitely delayed or the actions of North Somerset and South Gloucestershire councils. Part of the problem I think is that Bristol is defined as a wealthy city, so it gets less cash for these sort of projects than other cities Oop North or in Wales etc. I'd quite like to see the argument that suggests a Newcastle-style underground is the way to go, rather than a tram system like Manchester or a light-railway network like Leeds.
  16. I was under the impression that GWR runs the area's franchise and Network Rail runs the infrastructure and the vast majority of that line runs through North Somerset Council's area and its re-opening is being piloted by the West of England Combined Authority. I also thought the recent delays were caused by environmental groups protesting about impact which led the government to put granting of consent on hold for 6 months.
  17. Happy I wasn't there. We aren't getting our money's worth. I mean us as punters, not just the club.
  18. My vintage programme collection. ?
  19. I told my kids they'll be disinherited if they support anyone other than City.
  20. Except N.O.N.C_ means "paedophile", not "homosexual". (You can't write the word on this forum)
  21. The scientific basis for saying "this squad is capable of X, Y or Z" is about as sound as getting your weather forecast from a bit of seaweed. The fact is, Pearson inherited a disinterested and demoralised squad and has started to rebuild, but is stymied by high-wage underperformers he is stuck with this season. I'm as disappointed in the last few years of City performances as you, but he's only halfway to getting the sort of squad he might be able to work with here. Next season, he'll hopefully have more ducks in a line and we can accurately judge how he's working out. I don't think Pearson is beyond criticism and for sure I've seen him make mistakes. I'd like to give him that extra window to see what he can do though. Financial considerations are hardly a "smokescreen" though. There is a reason why the two runaway leaders of this division are where they are. Including the club that beat us by one (offside) goal yesterday.
  22. It isn't just about lack of parachute payments. It's about the financial precipice City stand on, thanks to the profligacy of the past management. Put both together, Pearson's hands are tied. We've known all season we cannot compete with the best in this division. Yesterday at least showed we can worry them by scoring on the break.
  23. Got a freebie for this year.
  24. Those Lamborghini Urus won't pay for themselves!
  25. Which it still is, if you've had the misfortune of venturing into the suburb surrounding the stadium...
