I certainly think that Vyner is wanted at club but I get the whole you’ve only had one really good season so an improved offer could follow pre Xmas if he demonstrates that it wasn’t a one off.  I suspect that Dickie will ultimately be first choice RCB & in Atkinsons absence we are LCB light.  Think Roberts and Pring are considered LBs who can cover so for me a new LCB required as prefer Naismith in MF.  Who knows though.

    Agree with that.

I can't see us offering an improved contract to Vyner before Jan and with a new CB potentially coming in post Scott money, he would be even further down the pecking order.

My thinking would he another GK, CB and CM.

Plus if the right player in whatever position for the right price becomes available we go for it. Price permitting of course.

Then look at getting Vyner, Pring, Bell and Conway tied down for longer if possible with the extra financial freedom.

    Vyner- 2024

    Pring, Bell, Conway- 2025.

Print, Bell, Conway absolutely a priority.

I'm not so sure we view Vyner in the same light. He had his best season last year and of course on the whole his performances were much improved.

However the contract offer he got is viewed as not acceptable. Do we improve on that, or say that that is what we value you at take it or leave it?

Seems strange that we would look to bring in players for those positions before tying down Vyner if that's the case.

Awaiting the Bajic move to a French team any day now. He's certainly not in the first team frame at all for me

Has the  Her game too lot mentioned the gas player since he was found guilty?

The issue they have is that they are basically funded by Rovers

It essence it would be biting the hand that feeds them.

Incredible that they wouldn't have a press release ready to go out the moment the sentence was announced really.

You would like to think that the four incomings were Plan A& B and Plan B is to strengthen areas such as CB,GK and maybe a forward.

    Could be true there Mark.

Does a new CB mean that we're not going to give Vyner a new deal?

Although Kalas looks to be moving on, our general modus at the moment seems to be getting players in that can play a multitude of positions.

In that sense, one more CB and it could be bye bye Zak.

  5. Got to feel that any fee of £20m + add ons (potentially moving it up to £25m+) is one where we start serious talks.

Whether than is Bournemouth it doesn't really matter in my book. Money talks at the end of the day.

It would be interesting to think how that money would change our transfer dynamic over the next few weeks though (the plan B NP spoke about).

Would we look to upgrade in positions we've already bolstered in the Plan A implemented thus summer so far.

Another 3-4 players and do we block the pathways of a number of the Academy players?

Sometimes having a larger budget comes with it's own issues and difficult decisions.

I do agree although vanity not just with Ashton IMO but also SL spoke of his pride didn't he about finally turning a profit.

Bonus considerations a good point too.

I wonder if too if a factor could have been to fall below the £15m Lower Loss future monitoring limit, that bit is pure speculation on my part but the monitoring could have been reduced further if adjusted losses in a given period fall below £15m.

All the same it did seem oddly rushed. Would have reduced FFP pressure a lot last season had the Kelly sale been in 2019-20 rather than 2018-19.

    100% this @Davefevs

Ashton wanted to portray himself as the first CEO to produce a profit in over 20 years, through his amazing wheeler dealing and talent spotting ?.

There was no other reason for the Kelly money to be included in the 2018-19 accounts other than this in my opinion. Really messed us up FFP wise in the following years.

If they ram that through in less than two months they'll be wide open to a JR I'd imagine.

So given the determination date is 3 weeks after the start of the season and they haven't even started building it yet, where are they going to put all the supporters that have bought ST's in this non-existent stand???

    Our in house barrister.

Admittedly third hand information but I'm told the capacity of the stand could be limited to approximately 1400 until permission is granted which may take up to a year and even then would not necessarily be for the requested number. Any breach of the safety certificate requirements could well result in the services of Mr Csoka being called upon.

Is that the same Simon Csoka KC who represented Barton in his two trials? The club certainly keep him busy.

No doubt he'll now be employed for a certain centre forward at the club who is in Court next week as well?

If it was just a rumour, I unreservedly apologise. My memory isn't what it was, but I thought I remembered him being charged.

Dave Partridge, Steve Brooker and Bradley Orr wasn't it?

    https://www.theguardian.com/football/2006/sep/01/newsstory.sport17

Public order offences rather than assaulting a female though I think.

Nothing comes near the level of David Pipe though.

Footballers will always get into some kind of trouble. The difference is, all of these were already players.

Not sure we would sign a player though who is currently due to have a court case next month.

  10. So he was suspended by Exeter whilst awaiting trial.

Then when he pleaded guilty to assaulting the woman he was sacked.

Even though he's on trial for a 2nd assault, Rovers feel that this is a signing worthy of their reputation as a family club.

I'm guessing the #metoo brigade at the club are 100% in agreement as well.

I'm sure I called this transfer a few months ago (There are better people than me on this forum that can do a proper check). But hoped in my heart (rather than head) that Rovers would do the right thing of course.

Reading the back again…..if they’re happy about ‘not being in for’ the likes of Stockton, Elder, Vickers, Ward etc then **** me they really have drank the cool aid. Incredible.

God knows who they are looking at. But judging by the fact that resigned 4 players. One of who was out all season, another who came in Jan (after injuries, and no-one else was interested). Greenslade hardly made made an impression at a team that finished rock bottom of the conference South. Ryan Jones is another youngster they got from WSM.

It's the equivalent of us including all the under 18s and under 21s that have new contracts as new signings for us alongside Dickie, McCrorie and Roberts. Hardly representative of first team squad development.

Have the gas actually got grass on their pitch yet, or is it still sand? Their website still shows the first team squad as consisting of all their loan players from last season, as well as players like Coutts (shown as their captain) and Anderson. It really is beyond comprehension.

Do you Edward Buster Jennings take this woman to be your lawful wedded wife ?

Shut up yer divvy I got Barry Fry on the phone

Is Wael also fully supportive of paying for a new South Stand or does he want to take out a high interest loan to pay for it??

Why does this "Hugely Wealthy Chairman" have to be stopped by Barton from spending too much money on players?. Whilst at the same time expecting someone else to build a new stadium for the club, other than the current owners?

I just don't get it that no-one actually challenges this rhetoric that he's some sort of financial saviour.

They pay peanuts in wages, never go above 200k in transfer fees, no academy, and a stadium that is literally falling down.

Yet every season the 12 free transfers, and magical loans ,(Quansah described as future England material, if only he could cut out the mistakes...?) will hopefully take them into the playoffs

It really doesn't all add up does it?

No professional scouting department will be put off by lack of goals and assists.

I used to look at his goals and assists as a matter of concern.

Last season, i started to take note of quite how many "assist to the assist " Scott actually gets.

He's the player in our system that gets the ball out quickly from under his feet and gets us moving forward.

Whether it's to Weimann/Wells on the right or Pring or Bell on the left, you can bet your bottom dollar that Scott will be involved in the build up somewhere to our goals.

So yes, the goals and assists stats don't always do justice to quite how impactful a player can be in midfield.

Doesn't take away of course that as NP has stated we need more goals from our midfield full stop.

I actually think a target man is becoming more effective than ever. Lot's of CB's are now becoming more of a footballer, great with the ball at their feet but not as big and strong as previously. Prime example is Naismith or Vyner for us.

We got bullied away at Luton, who had the big bloke up front. Morris? Can't remember.

Anyway yes the game is becoming more technical, but a target man can still do the job and cause havoc.

    Agreed.

Also Simms for Sunderland had a fantastic game against us at the gate. Leading the line in a way in which you rarely see nowadays.

  15. Have to say I'm really impressed by Vince Harper over this.

He looked like a promising youngster for us, who was let go rather surprisingly.

He dropped down to non league with Chippenham, and could easily have played out his career at that level.

But he obviously took the City rejection by City as impetus for his determination to get back into the football league.

Firstly by getting that contract with Eastleigh in the Conference, and now of course Exeter in L1.

Not many City youngsters make it back into the EFL after being released. Fair play Vince ?

  16. They've done it with Golf. Not surprised it's carrying over into Football.

As for Arsenal, they sold their soul a bit already with thr "visit Rwanda " sponsorship for me. One of the most corrupt regimes in Africa.

Hence why the Govt is sending people there ?

This guy certainly seems to not have a lot in terms of experience or qualifications for an in depth role at a football club.

He went into Fleetwood as a 'consultant' and somehow bagged the DoF role while there. And is now just hanging around in the background for the fewers.

    https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/eddy-jennings-joey-barton-bristol-7107802?int_source=amp_continue_reading&int_medium=amp&int_campaign=continue_reading_button#amp-readmore-target

So being a scouser and working at Fleetwood also now seems to be a prerequisite for getting a job at Rovers as well as playing there.

Is Barton some sort of charity for lonesome scousers who found themselves against their will, stuck on the Lancashire coast?

I think Stockton could score at Champ level…he can score any type of goal, he’s just one of those players.  I’m surprised nobody took a punt last summer.

But I doubt anyone will this summer (again).

Amazed in a way that he's signed so early in the window for Burton!!!!

You would have imagined better offers perhaps from a top L1 team at least?
