Oh dear, we've just gone through three years of misery and living on the financial edge of FFP when we avoided FFP points deductions and the subsequent relegation. In that time we have relied on a few more elder statesmen and a never ending supply of very promising Academy graduates. So we finished comfortably in mid table with several long term injured unable to help out.

I believe that we played some very decent football losing against the two automatic promotion sides but actually playing very well in both matches..

Cheer up mate as City are still in the Championship instead of League Two and now recruiting for what will be a good next season.

On the contrary, happy with last season and the fact that the run Jan-March took us away from the trouble that looked like happening after the WBA on Boxing day. I was never been part of the NP out brigade, and stuck to my guns against Ian on the FBC podcast throughout the difficult times.

More a  statement of how we move forward from 14th this season to upper half/playoffs next season.

The lack of goals in the team beyond the forwards is something that obviously needs addressing.

How can you possibly know that "his stock will never be higher". If he gets the expected move to the Premier, and has a good season then his stock will most certainly be higher than it is now.

In terms of us, ie he is the new guy on the block all PL are supposedly looking at. If we were looking to sell, now woukd be the best time to maximise his potential.

It'll be someone else next season, and injuries/form/entering into last year of contact post season could all play a part on his valuation.

To be fair, a lot of that has come from playing Scott in the 10, he had significantly more impact from deeper positions.

Also, he's created 89 shot opportunities if you look at the Vyner Wells thread posted by Spud.

Perfectly conceivable that with a 20% conversion rate he could have close to 20 assists this season!

It's all academic, but Scott is the best player we've had in my lifetime. Retaining him alongside some other significant additions in defence and midfield would leave us in a very strong position to challenge at the top end of the league.

But it won't happen and we will have to move on without him (I actually think that's one of the reasons why Nige moved him to the 10 position. To see how our team could adapt without the most "press resistant" central midfielder in the league.

    All good points @Percy Pig.

It's certainly been good to have a player that everyone talks about.

I do wonder whether Conway will be similar in a year or two? Going to be an interesting contract discussion around him soon. Like Scott 2 years left on his deal, and probably not on the greatest amount of wages.

Yes, I know he's local; and loves the club etc. But like Pring, we need to lock these players down for a few more years after 2025.

On an aside I know Tommy got Golden Boot, but Nahki was top scorer in the league!

Would have been Interesting to see Tommy's final tally if he hadn't got injured and misses 3.5 months.

For me, he was looking a bit tired, and out of his earlier season form when the injury game. Not surprising when it's his first full season at this level.

Regardless of how likely it is, having Alex Scott play for Bristol City will always be of benefit to us. He is one of the best young players in the country.

I get that in the short term.

But I remember how it turned out with Jack Clarke when he went back to Leeds from Tottenham. It depends on how we are planning for next season.

One of the points that NP makes clear is the need for more goals from midfield. It's fair to say this is an area of Scott's game that he needs to improve on. If by playing Scott you aren't playing one of those players that you specifically bought in to do that job then tough decisions would have to be made.

I love Scott, and it's been a pleasure to see his development over the last two seasons. But in all honesty, the last 2/3 months of the season weren't his best and of course he had probably his worse game for the club versus Burnley in the last home game. Whether all the press, media nonsense has got to him, I can't say; but his stock will never be higher than what it is now.

Like when Semenyo left, others have had to step up to the plate. Having Conway back was like a new signing, but collectively as a team we still only scored 4 goals in our last 8 away games. Winning 4 of our last 13 games after the Man City cup game. A lot of those games Scott played in, don't forget. Yes it was a collective issue across the team, but Scott was part of that issue unfortunately,

Seen it suggested that Lamouchi had 5 new players lined up.

Again that and Cardiff's possible financial position don't quite align so maybe these are connected.

You can imagine the conversation between Lamouchi and Tan when the reality of the financial situation became apparent.

  7. So much for all of the Cardiff fans social media around Tan "really going for it next season" and "he's putting in £20-25m" type quotes.

You try and explain FFP, and Tan can't simply put in x amount of money. Unless of course he completely gambles like Forest, Bournemouth or Fulham did in order to get to the PL.

This managerial development today just smacks of more cost cutting for next season, and having to do more with less.

If he's loaned back then great, but I do think people shouldn't be hanging their hopes on it because it doesn't really make a lot of sense from a buying club's point of view. And if it does happen then I don't think it would be a case of just continuing as we have been with him for the last 2 seasons, the dynamic would change and people need to be prepared for that.

And I absolutely 100% guarantee it would take no more than a couple of bad games from him for the complaints to start that he isn't committed, doesn't really want to be here etc. I mean there were people doing it after he had a poor hour against Burnley the other week.

I'm not sure what the natural benefit would be to us as a club as well.

NP made a big play on SOTC about using continuity in transfer dealings/squad evolution. Having Scott with us for another season would mean that one of the new signings (or an academy player) would only have to wait another season to gain valuable first team minutes.

I think this also relates to his views on loanees, you can't really plan for the future development of the squad, when you are spending a season developing other people's players.

I also think why would a PL club want Scott to play any more Championship games to "develop"? They would want him playing at a higher level, or a top level european club. Nothing to be gained for them playing him at a level/division in which he has already played two seasons.

Again just quoting the Evening post, which has supposedly got knowledge from somewhere that he is taking lower wages.

Whether that is just guess work from the Post around the fact that Norwich & WBA would probably be paying more is a moot point.

The difficulty with all of these transfer news sites is that all they do is cross reference each other. Thus giving the impression that it's being reported by multiple media outlets, whereas the reality is it's only 1 bit of information that has been repeated across various sites.

I've no doubt that this is close, but moving forward over the summer around other rumours, we all have to be circumspect over whether there is any actual basis to the rumour or not.

I’m sure his bonus was linked to financial performance, which isn’t unsurprising really for a CEO, but can of course be a conflict of interests too, ie in his vested interest to sell players to keep losses lower than for the benefit of squad development.

It just so happens that I have a spreadsheet of his Director Salary vs Player Trading / Transfer Profit. ?

You can make of it what you will!

    Blimey those figures for 2018/19 & 2019/20 are stark aren't they @Davefevs?

Somewhat potential conflict of interest in driving transfers isn't there?

Disappointing result, disappointing performance in some ways.

I thought Acey showed up well first half.  As did Leeson and Morrison to an extent.

Pre-Xmas I kept saying I wanted to see Joe Low up against a team that could put him under pressure and also against a forward that might run him the other way.  Don’t get me wrong Osula is way too good for u21 footie (he made our first look ragged for 15 mins last season), but I got my answer today.  He’s got a lot of work to do to be a Champ player in the future.

Kadji did okay with the ball.  Without the ball, so reactive.

Omar tenacious but showed how at first team level his teammates got him through it.  He couldn’t lift his u21 teammates today.  He kept going though.

Im not sure what Marlee Francois is???

    Hey-ho.

On a plane with the Australian team isn't he?

Appointed Doncaster manager having left Peterborough last season.

Feel free to bookmark this for use in 2025, 2027 and 2029…

Doncaster Rovers, another team that has dropped like a stone and has appointed a former manager to recreate past glories.

A bit like us with Jordan really.?

Has the state of the art disabled section in the South Stand been taken down yet?

    Untitled123.png

Behind this were a couple of portaloo's for the away fans and without doubt the worst smell you could ever smell at a football ground, in the same bracket as the Bristol Waste site by the fruit market, I shit you not. ?

Christ that is bad beyond belief.

There are Toolstation sides with better facilities than that....

In summary then, if the new stand does get built, we don't think it will be ready for the 1st home game. Kind of understandable, a very ambitious plan.

The thing is, if it isn't ready by, say Christmas*, then that will be pretty bad. Lost revenue, fans who do normally attend needing to relocate.

It seems it is a case of how late, not if.

    (*Didn't say which one.)

    ???

If it's not ready for the start of the season, does that mean that their capacity would be something like 7.5k??????

    The mind boggles...???

My mate is up there emptying the bins . He said the tents coming down . Two blokes on a ladder

If he spends any more time there, the Gas will probably co-opt him into building the stand and then finishing off the electrics afterwards.

Still waiting for them to call out their Volunteer army again .?

For balance, just went on their forum. They seem to think it’s linked to the construction of the new stand.

This special belter thinks that construction of a single tier temporary structure will cost £5m (because those projects don’t need planning, you spend that much when you’re leaving shortly and the stand will be constructed in two months, obvs), and despite it being a replacement for existing tents, will generate all totally “new” income.

    They’re special.

Christ you wouldn't want that guy doing your business's accounts.

It seems like he's been to the Mark Ashton wildly optimistic school of accountancy there.

  18. I love the fact that we're willing to play some of the under 18's in these games. Trusting the process, rather than using them as vehicles to get 1st team squad players game time.

Only going to help some of the younger players in the long term.

Must've watched 20 games across Hellenic/Toolstation Level & another 20+ at Somerset County level this season.

Found it really enjoyable. The standard is obviously miles off of what you'd get down the gate, but you do still spot the odd player from time to time & games seem to have a bit more bite to them.

Not seen it mentioned but Nailsea & Tickenham got promoted again to Toolstation Prem after a promotion last season from Somerset County Prem which is impressive. Oldland Abbotonians joined them the other day after winning the play offs.

Saw Ashton & Backwell are dropping down two leagues back into Somerset County Prem & that potentially Nailsea & Tickenham will be using their ground next season.

    @Carey 6

Got to say Nailsea and Tick have played a blinder here.

Their ground is part of the area designated for redevelopment by North Somerset Council. As such the Council would have to compulsory purchase it, and replace it with another ground to the same/higher standard.

Cue N&T, developing their old ground at a huge rate, safe in the knowledge that they will get a brand new one, with new facilities costing far more than they have currently invested.

Sad to see Ashton & Backwell drop two divisions, as a Clevedon United Committee member, I know all about reaching beyond your means. When we played Toolstation at the Hand Stadium it nearly bankrupted us. We've bought it all in house at Coleridge now, and it's a lot more manageable. Only have to look at Bitton, for an example of unsustainable ambition.

Where do they get these needy morons from? "yes, yes, but it has to be biggerer than trashton . . ." to house the 30,000 sags they'll need pontoons for the fruit market, always assuming they have enough car parks to satisfy the planners!

I take it Sing up gas hasn't been to MK Dons if he's using that stadium as an example.

As a club they've never filled it. In the end they closed the upper tier to fans, and started even stripping seats from the bottom tier as well.

An absolute cluster of a ground, and hardly one to use as an example of a ground to aspire to.

The only thing he did wrong all game??

I’m not a hater, and am more the than willing to give him a chance, but he doesn’t like a tackle does he?

Roll your socks up, put some shin pads on and get stuck in son.

Have to agree that he is a liability defensively. I can see Sykes getting the nod in that role for the next couple of games.

When you play 4-3-3 with the ball, you need to tuck back in a 4-5-1 without it on transition. Bell has started to do this really well.

Unfortunately Cornick without the ball, seems to go a bit headless. The amount of times he was out of position today with either King or James having to help out Tanner on the right was really noticeable. He also just doesn't track his man back particulary well either.

He was terrible defensively against Boro with their LWB Ryan Giles. Early days still for him, and I don't knock his workrate; but he does need to improve substantially.

That was one bit of poor play where either needs to take responsibility and belt it up front…as Andy King told them afterwards.

But give them credit for trying to play / be brave and slowly change the way we are trying to play.

First time I've seen both King, and Vyner on a number of occasions having a right go at Max today.

There was something about his demeanour today that didn't inspire confidence in the back line.

You could tell the plan he had been told was to get the ball to Naismith asap, but either by wayward throws, passes or general head in the clouds moments, Max failed to recognise on a number of occasions that we just needed to clear our lines.

It feels like if Hakin was still here now, he would be in for the last few games, to see what he's like. There's no pressure on Max at the moment, as we're hardly likely to bring Wiles-Richards in.

All a bit of a strange season keeper wise for us. Lots of comings and goings, new contracts, and loans abroad. Very little actual progression planning (beyond MOL's new contract)
