Wouldn’t be beyond the realms of possibility that Massengo and his representatives are starting to question the direction of BCFC. They came here no doubt on the promise that we would seriously be pushing for the Premier league - we are miles away from that anytime soon.

I’d imagine plenty of clubs all over Europe would be keen on HNM, wouldn’t surprise me if he is trying to or at least thinking about engineering a move away from here.

To be honest if i was a player for us with no emotional connection to the football club i would be wanting out 100% so I can’t blame him if that is the case sadly.

Yeah - that's what I've been wondering.   Such a shame because he's got more talent than the rest of our lot put together - although, that said, he can't shoot for toffee!

Ex pro footballer with a steel like reputation who cannot motivate or organise a squad of players who have hundreds of championship games and international caps between them.

i totally don’t buy into this is a shit squad, I am now firmly in the manager is another washed up old has been like pulis, McCarthy, pardew, allardyce, Hughes, warnock, Mowbray

I take your point but how many international caps have we got in the squad? Kalas has a few but suspect he won't get too many more.  Same goes for Odowda.  Can't think who else?

For me, conceding or scoring goals in the closing minutes of the first or second half is very often a question of mentality.

I seem to remember in our play off season under Gary Johnson, we often scored right at the close.

It seems to me that nowadays and for quite a few seasons recently we are the ones who concede.    Any team with any sense knows to attack us because we seem unable to "game manage".

With a boss as experienced as Nige, I am really shocked that today we were torn apart in injury time.  It's a disgrace.   We have plenty of seasoned pros in the team who must know about game management.

Does anyone  know how to run  the stats on our record for conceding / scoring in, say  the last 5 minutes of either first or second halves?  I think it would tell us a lot about the psychology of our team.

Just reminding myself of what I thought a few weeks back ?

That’s the spirit! Thank God you obviously weren’t around when we were following Terry’s heroes everywhere from 1983 - we reached rock bottom but we just trusted our manager and supported our team to the hilt - there was no sense of entitlement back then, we just backed our boys because they were wearing our shirt and they needed our help - the wailing these days when we lose a game in the 5th best division in Europe is just pitiful ... our modern fans wouldn’t have stayed the course when our club needed us the most back in the ‘80s ... I’m so grateful that I was able to witness those times and be part of a proper crowd of Bristol City supporters - home and away, we were proud to represent Bristol even though our team had limited abilities - but boy did they run their hearts out for our club, loved ‘em all ...

And we didn't even have a high performance centre back then!

Our problem isn' t the strikers it's the total lack of creativity behind them and from the wings. Harry Kane wouldn't score in this side. We need a creative midfielder and a bit of pace out wide, not anew striker imo.

Was about to say the same.   There is no service from the midfield who don't seem to be able to retain possession.  HNM occasionally gets a good ball forward but that's about it.

  6. Personally I would rather see investment in decent players than in a fancy stadium or a fancy (laughably mis-named) high performance centre or a rugby team or a basketball team.

I've been a supporter since before the Dolman stand was built and have seen all the ups and downs and I don't understand how anybody thinks the millions he's spent could possibly have been worth it if you have actually watched the quality of the football for the last few years.

Is there not a 5th piece - the Fans.

"The Fans should be informed in an honest and appropriate level, in order that they may understand the realistic aspirations of the Club, and the limitations that the Owners, Board, Coaches and Players have."

Interesting to compare the role of fans as against customers in a more organisational model.   Someone was asked on another thread if they considered themselves a fan or a customer.    Personally I think, given how much we are charged for our support, we should be treated as customers and therefore as "kings", but I understand the view that others have that being a true fan means unquestioning loyalty to the shirt!    We've had a lot of disappointment for many years under the current regime and can expect at least one more I fear which is a test of anyone's commitment.

  8. Useful model which applies to any  organisation (replacing players for employees obvs).   Just means having a clear vision and strategy and implementing them so the operation / execution are aligned.

I've often wondered how SL managed to be so successful at Hargreaves Lansdown - or at least what his role was in their success. I guess he was the bean-counter in chief rather than the big vision guy?   On the other hand the whole Bristol Sport thing is big vision stuff, (much as I think it's an annoying distraction from the football), so maybe he just doesn't know how to operationalise his vision.   Certainly his recruitment of key leadership staff has been poor.

It's a very refreshing change to have a Manager who could not only see what the rest of us saw today but is prepared to say it. Obviously his job in the longer term is to dramatically improve the level of performance which was bottom of the barrel at times, terrible, but with FFP forcing Steve to keep his hands in his sky rocket this isn't an overnight transformation. In the short term we simply have to play better than that though - hopefully it's a confidence thing because if it isn't then we are in for a very tough season. My gripe today was that we should be playing better than that against Barnsley where we literally turned up for 4 minutes in terms of attacking play. Luckily those 4 minutes won us the game.

If we can battle our way to a draw on Tuesday night then it will be a very good few days for us in the context of the season.

Agreed.  My gripe is how is it that we can't retain possession?  Even from our own set pieces?
