Just switch to someone like Umbro, they did some decent stuff for Bristol Bears.

Unfortunately they have now been lumbered with O'Neills too.?

Surely it’s all about profit margin for the club. I imagine O’Neills have been screwed to a dirt-cheap deal…. And unsurprisingly the quality matches.

Never mind. We ALWAYS have a unique* kit thanks to JL.

*unless you can remember the previous version of it.

A big player as I was growing up and watching footie, Brum, Forest, Man City, Sampdoria, then still doing it at Wednesday as Player-Manager.  A good player for England too, shame he had Achilles problems, he blamed on the modern boot and pitches (of the time).

    RIP Trevor

    Imagine him on today’s pitches….

Bearing in mind a Saudi club has today offered £300m for Mbappe,  what on earth would Trevor’s value be today?

    RIP Trevor.

I don't know, I prefer the manager to be pragmatic if you're not getting promoted then dump em in the reserves and start planning for life without them.  If you're in with a shot of promotion or at risk of relegation then play the strongest side possible assuming the players are being professional and commit.  If they are being disruptive thrown them out on loan.

    ETC...

Yeah you’re probably right. In the case of Vyner, presumably we want to keep him and, presumably, his attitude is good. No need to change anything. I suppose sone players down tools but I reckon that’s the minority.

If Kalas’s injury record is a concern then - in terms of proportion of time here spent out injured - neither Naismith nor Atkinson inspire much more confidence.

But agree 100% on Vyner. I don’t buy this ‘commit or your out’ line but it seems to be emerging as a bit of a theme at the club, and NP says things to suggest it’s his view. Which potentially leaves us with Vyner in that position quite soon. And I’m not sure he’ll rush to sign. I think he will - quite justifiably - want to wait and see and keep his options open.

And then, suddenly, an injury and a suspension and we’re back to looking short.

Difference is - Atkinson and Naismith are under contract but I agree with your point about their injury records. I guess adding Kalas to them just adds to the overall injury risk.

I hope NP is reasonably fair with players running their contract down - it’s the player’s choice and not playing them is cutting off your nose to spite your face. Gary Johnson used to freeze players out completely - Basso and Orr being two examples. It didn’t help the club at all.

I guess we are thin at centre back but I don’t know how good the new signings are at playing there. We’ve also got Pring to cover. Hopefully Atkinson hits the ground running when he’s back.

    I think he’s gone.

I think the offer will have withdrawn by now.  Any attempts to sign him on the contract offered must’ve been on the proviso he signs and joins pre-season.

If we were to resign him, I’d be renegotiating terms, because he’s now behind everyone.

    I’d rather we moved on.

As for CBs we have the obviously fit Vyner and Dickie, plus McCrorie and Roberts.  It matters not that Nige has said they will play FB.  If he needs them to play CB they will and can.  McCrorie has played a lot at CB don’t forget.  And then we have Naismith, expected to be back this week.

I think some are panicking a bit.

Baker re-signed on the 28th June, before his contract actually expired and was therefore in for a full pre-season.  He was playing bloody well too, such a shame.

Agree I’m sure he’s gone. Good servant but also the injury record was becoming a concern (especially when, correctly, we’re carrying a small squad).

my bigger concern is whether Vyner signs a new deal.

Have a feeling they won’t mess around with their 2nd bid. Think they’ll come in with an overall deal that’ll reach 25-30m with add ons now. Still praying for a bidding war and that Scott ends up somewhere better than Bournemouth but we put a price tag on him and have to accept whoever it is that pays it. If he does end up there we’ll all just have to hope he has a blinder and they sell him on to Man City in 12 months for 120m ??

    Exactly!

I see Rice is set to sign for Arsenal any time now….. could that open West Ham’s wallet???

Even in the photos you can see dirt/bits of string on the hats..

If i wanted to be really critical, whoever edited the photo has done a really poor job too, choppy outline where it has been cropped.

Is that really official merch? Looks awful.

In Alex’s case I don’t necessarily hold with the theory that his value in a years time if he stays with us (with only one year left on his contract) will drop. He is for us a generational talent who has been named among the best young players in the world. This is not your average Championship player and his value will only increase. The type of clubs who will come in for him will not wait for him to run his contract down to save themselves a few million so I don’t see that being a danger. If he stays another year then he will certainly go, even if we did get promoted, such is his level and it would be a massive fee.

From his perspective he can choose to go to a West Ham or Brighton now or wait 12 months and potentially go to a consistently top 6 club. Watching Antoine he may think that playing every week in the Championship rather than sitting on a Premier League bench compared with maybe walking straight into the team at a massive club in 12 months time could be worth the wait.

Is it better for City for him to leave. Ow for a WHU or Brighton and us pocket the sell on when he moves up a notch?
if he goes to a top 6 club now or next year we can, most likely, kiss goodbye to a future sell on.
Brutal I know but it might be better for Bristol City if he went now.
Obviously, ideally he stays, we get promoted and he signs a longer deal - however unlikely that might be!!!

No the robin/suspension bridge/football badge was introduced the following season, the new Division 1 shirt with the Umbro diamonds down the sleeves.

Toffs do a replica of that one as well, including the white away version.

Really accurate replicas, great quality, all cotton with an embroidered crest.

Just think, if our kit supplier was Umbro not O’Reilly, they could make EXACT replicas of the top flight shirt.

I mean O’Neills not O’Reilly. O’Reilly was the dodgy builder from Fawlty Towers… easy mistake to make.

Who'd want to be a football manager?

Undoubtedly they've got their eye on someone else who they believe will do a better job.

O'Neil should find another job relatively quickly based on the great job he did there.

He will find a decent job. His reputation was always high and much more so since the job he did last season.

Nige is doing a good job and completely safe but if, hypothetically, our job was up for grabs, O’Neill would be right up there as a sensible choice.

That would be insulting . There’s no way he’s been offered 6 months imo  . Two years with a third option would be my guess , although a year with another year if he plays 20 games maybe .

Depends doesn’t it? Would you want last year’s injury record on the books for 3 years if you weee the club? If you were Kakas would you want a massive pay cut?   Six months of form and fitness would improve both positions.
Just thought - I know nothing…. but then again that’s as much as anyone on here!

Do we still think the Kalas offer will be on the table once Roberts signs? Do we still have the budget/ space for him? Particularly as NP likes a small squad?

    Depth:

    Pring

    Atkinson, Roberts

    Dickie, Vyner

    Tanner, McRorie

Are we more likely to go back in for Currie or sign up Kalas? For me, there’s only space for one more body in that back line without things looking too ‘busy’.

    Thoughts?

This got me thinking…. I don’t think we know the length of contract Kalas will have been offered. Could be as little as 6 months to cover Atkinson and prove his own fitness…. Then take it from there. Maybe triggering an extension if he passes X number of games. That wouldn’t seem an unreasonable approach to me.

I really don't have a problem with us having a blue training kit (in fact I think we should use the colour more often to reiterate how irrelevant the 15ers have become).

However, putting a badge on the front that simply states 'City', with no other way to identify it as a Bristol City top, when there is another, much more famous, club who are also known as City, and play in that colour, is just plain idiocy.

I'd never buy it as people would just assume I was a Manchester City fan.

I agree we should use blue - ideally a dark navy:

as you say, shows how irrelevant the gas are

bristol blue - as in the glass

ties in with the rugby (part of the same group and both could use red white and navy as their core colours)

matches the colour from our one and only fa cup final.

But this Man City blue is outrageous especially without referencing Bristol

This is captive audience marketing & the club are hoping we get Stockholm syndrome.

Some say it’s only a kit, who cares, don’t like it so don’t buy it etc but replica match shirts in particular are a fundamental element of any club’s identity and it’s expected that 10,000s of fans will wear it.

The designs are becoming far to personal to JL who is hoping this connects with other fans.

Maybe a limited edition commemorative shirt for the small number of fans who like that vintage sort of thing but match day shirts should a technical garment of modern design, created by a specialist brand.

Theres good reason why specialist sports brands give clubs limited customisation as they are multi £M/B sport specialists who know far more about design in their field.

This is it….. stupidly the club’s obsession with re-making shirts is losing an opportunity.  They could have a normal, modern shirt AND a range of retro shirts (as plenty of clubs do). Companies like Score Draw and TOFFS make perfectly decent retro shirts.

Like those shirts, I wonder how they come up with the ideas ?

On an unrelated note, here's a City programme from 1974.

Unfortunate choice of shade of blue, very City rather than City.

How many badges/logos does JL want (after redesigning the robin only a few years ago)?

We’ve a robin in a circle, a robin without a circle, a robin that looks it’s been flattened/roadkill and now a retro City logo.

The colour and quality of those training t shirts looks awful.
