This may seem like a weird idea but how about people who decided to bring children into this world actually teach them right from wrong and not tell people who they have never met what to do or sing,I know it’s mind blowing stuff and unimaginable

I don’t think these things need to be mutually exclusive. Surely as part of educating one’s own child as to what is right and what is wrong, calling out discriminatory or abusive chanting is a positive example to set them?

If we were all held to the standards of our youth rather than adjusting and adapting then society would stand still and we'd still be chucking bananas at black players and kicking seven shades of shit out of each other in the open end.

It is hypocritical, but everything is. Sometimes you learn from mistakes.

    Quite.
although I contest that it’s not hypocritical to hold your former self to account and expect better of society today.

pretty sure most people don’t actually think joeys mother is really a whore, it’s just sung in jest, let’s not take everything to seriously.

I’m sure most don’t although some replies here suggest otherwise. But that’s not the point. Casual sexism (whether there’s intent or not) reinforces negative attitudes towards women. That’s why I don’t like it.

I had my fun.....which I thoroughly enjoyed but now I'm an old bastard you should listen to me, who has now realised the error of their ways, and not have the same fun I was able to have. Football is no longer a place for creative chanting that sails a bit close to the wind and should move on with the politically correct and socially moral times we now live in..........I only say that because I have grown up and naturally evolved my opinions on life to suit those characteristics, no other reason.

In other words, if you are young and having a bit of a laugh "**** off". That's the OP in a nutshell isn't it?

If that’s how you’ve interpreted my post then fair enough. But I’m not trying to stop people having fun, regardless of age. I’m just saying that in hindsight I regret participating in unsavoury chants, albeit the 90s were a very different time and I didn’t know any better.

I think it’s entirely possible to eliminate overtly discriminatory chants without stemming the flow of creativity for good humoured ones.

If you’re happy to continue endorsing this brand of support and feel that’s the right example to set to younger people in society then so be it. But I won’t be.

I think the best thing to do is probably to explain to your child that at football matches, and in life, there are certain people that act a certain way.  It doesn’t make it right and it doesn’t mean they have to join in.  That’s what I’ve done with my child and it worked well.  All kids will come across unsavoury characters, words etc so hiding them from it is pointless. Use it as a chance to have a conversation

I agree with that wholeheartedly and it’s exactly what I do. He’s not inclined to join in and certainly won’t repeat it outside of football either. But that doesn’t mean we have to accept it and let it go unchallenged.

    Out of interest

When you were one of the sheep back in the 90s

Would you have stopped singing songs you liked if some middle aged old goodie googie asked you to stop?

It’s not the 90s though is it and generally people’s attitudes have changed, making chants like this far less acceptable. Perhaps I would have ignored someone asking me to stop…what I would have liked in retrospect is to never have heard those chants at all.

The lads/ladies singing it now are a product of what they are surrounded by. Otherwise it wouldn't be sung.

Seems a bit hypocritical to me to expect teenagers of 2023 not to repeat your actions of 1990's (and my actions of the 2000's tbf) no matter how much society in general has changed.

It’s not hypocrisy to acknowledge one’s own errors and to be willing to be part of changing a toxic culture. I only wish I’d have had positive influences from more senior fans when I started attending.

I won’t sing it and I’d encourage others not to. Let’s focus on the positive and more palatable songs that everyone can get behind.

Bollocks to that, I'll still join in when it's sung. It's a football match, deal with it.

No. I don’t accept that. I don’t have to deal with it. Are you saying all forms of discrimination are acceptable within the context of a football match or just casual sexism and misogyny?

    What an appalling statement.

    Var and Stats not required.

    Thanks

Not sure if you can just walk in. Bookings can be made via the ticket website under hospitality (although not available to book on the day). £10 per person with tables of up to 10 people. The menu sounds limited…just refers to ‘loaded fries menu’.

You might have more luck calling or emailing:

‘To find out more or to check availability please call our events team on 0117 963 0680 or email events@ashtongate.co.uk.

  10. I’m fairly confident the club will continue to provide a solution for transferring your seat to a friend if you, as a season ticket holder, cannot attend a game. I’d expect this to require said friend to have a ticketing account with the club and for you as the season ticket holder to contact support services so they can allocate your seat to that friend, issuing them with a print from home/digital ticket for the game.

    Per the FA Handbook (https://www.thefa.com/football-rules-governance/lawsandrules/fa-handbook)...

REGISTRATION AND CHANGE OF CLUB CREST

M4 Each Club shall register its Club Crest with The Association in the form prescribed by The Association.
Guidance: This will ensure The Association can maintain an accurate record of Club Crests as a reference point to operate these Rules. Clubs should register any new Club Crest (including where there are minor changes which do not engage these Rules) to ensure The Association has an accurate record at all times.

M5 A Club Crest shall not be distasteful, threatening, abusive, indecent, insulting, discriminatory, ethically or morally offensive, or include any political or religious message, or include any form of advertising.

M6 A Club seeking to change its Club Crest shall not choose a design which would cause confusion with the existing Club Crest of another Club.

M7 The Club Crest shall comply with the Kit and Advertising Regulations.

M8 No Club shall make any material changes to its Club Crest without first undertaking a thorough and extensive consultation with its supporters.
Guidance: Clubs seeking to ensure they have undertaken a thorough and extensive consultation with supporters should undertake an independently run supporter poll to give weight to its proposal. The nature of such a poll will depend upon the circumstances of the Club in question but should include taking a poll of (where applicable); members of any Community Benefit Society formed for the benefit of the club’s supporters and registered with
the FCA (in many cases, a group of club supporters more commonly referred to as a supporters’ trust will be registered as a Community Benefit Society), season ticket holders, and any supporters who have attended a specific number of home matches in the previous season. Club Crests form an important part of the identity of a Club and changes can be an emotive issue for some supporters and lead to legitimate concerns being raised.

These Rules apply to any material changes to any aspect of a Club Crest (e.g. changing a colour from blue to red, adding or deleting text, or adding new design features and/or deleting established design features). These Rules are not intended to apply to the types of small changes to a Club Crest which occur more regularly, such as making a colour slightly lighter or darker, or slightly increasing or decreasing the size of a font. Whilst there may often be a strong case for the modernisation of a Club Crest, given the prominence of a Club’s Crest on kits, promotional material, broadcast and other visual media, it is of vital importance that the views of supporters are given significant weight when deciding to make material changes.

It is noted that some Clubs mark anniversaries by introducing a club crest which draws on previous heritage but differs from that in current use by the Club. Whilst these Rules will still apply in such circumstances, Clubs will be given a greater margin of discretion with regard to a temporary change to a club crest of this nature provided that the change is for a maximum of one playing season.

M9 A Club must be in a position to evidence that the majority of its supporters are in favour of a material change to its Club Crest prior to making any such change.
Guidance: In assessing whether or not the majority of a Club’s supporters are in favour of a material change to its Club Crest, The Association will give significant weight to the views of members of any Community Benefit Society formed for the benefit of the club’s supporters and registered with the FCA, season ticket holders, and any supporters who have attended a specific number of home matches in the previous season. For the avoidance of doubt, the views of a Club’s wider supporter base and/or membership shall not be disregarded for the purposes of any assessment by The Association.

M10 If a Club makes any material changes to its Club Crest then it shall register the new Club Crest with The Association in the form prescribed by The Association.

M11 The Association shall have the power to instruct a Club to use a previous version of the Club Crest where in the reasonable opinion of The Association a Club has breached any of Rules M4 to M10.

    Great stuff.

Yes these are a reference to the FAs new rules on heritage protection. These were brought in earlier this season. The White Paper suggests that the Government thinks this is sufficient protection. I cannot find the full new rules published anywhere though, so have no idea what they actually say beyond the press releases.

    Have you got a copy?

I can’t find anything more than this.

  13. So the FA website says this:

‘Under the new rules, if a club wishes to make a material change to its club crest, or change its recognised home shirt colours, it must undertake a thorough and extensive consultation process with supporters.

A club must also be able to evidence that a majority of its supporters are in favour of any proposed changes (such as via an independently-run poll of season ticket holders, the club’s Community Benefit Society, and supporters that have attended a certain number of home matches).’

Have we got round this on a technicality by having the badge on the back?
