City W19 D 15 = 38 + 15 = 53 pts. 3 pts for a win would be 19 pts more = 72. Bolton W 20 D 12 = 40 + 12 = 52 pts. 3 pts for a win = 20 pts more = 72 and they had a better goal difference than City

There are two coefficients to consider: league coefficient and club coefficient. As previously explained, league coefficient measures the overall achievements of a whole league in European competition, used for determining how many teams from each league qualify to the competition and what round of competition they enter.
