Young lad, only 30/31 or so. Basically played a bit of youth football then got some youth coaching/management/analysis jobs after a hell of a lot of rejections. This was when he was early 20s - he's never played a pro game or anything. He then got appointed caretaker manager of a club in Europe at 24 and smashed it - but because he had no formal qualifications he wasn't allowed to manage them full time so had to move on.

Got a few more assistant jobs, then another first team manager role one after that manager left - and was the youngest in Europe I believe. Because he still didn't have his qualifications, the club was being fined about £20k every match for having him as their manager, but they did it anyway as he was so good. We're talking a decent Liege 1 club too, and he had something like 15 games unbeaten (including against PSG) at the start of the season with them.

He's also well known because he credits a lot of what he learnt to playing Football Manager (hello Jon!) solidly for years on end when he was younger. He's got his head screwed on and has a really unconventional entry to the pro management game. I like him a lot.

Another point as he speaks both English & French (perhaps more) mid session he's able to seamlessly switch between languages while coaching.

Twine won't do that will he let's be honest he's probably earning 5x the amount of money we would ever pay plus he has 2 more years on that very lucrative deal and is at a team who have a real shot at promotion back to the Premier leauge next season he won't let go of Burnley easily we have to hope Burnley want to cut there losses on him and lower there asking price because they want to reinvest the money for there promotion push.

Given we pay players 10-15 thousand why do you think Twine is on 50+?

Yes, funny how there were ZERO additions following the sale of Scott!

A completely unnecessary and self harming decision by JL and led to Phil Alexander leaving the club.

    Ask yourself....

Why did we not get Twine in the summer?

Where would we now be in the league if we had?

Having instead gone to Hull, how much MORE did it cost to get Burnley to recall him and then loan him to us?

    It just stinks!

A hobby chairman who thinks he knows best but actually knows bugger all...

You assume we paid much in the first place to get him in Jan...

What do we get for Tommy realistically? £7M? Can’t see much more with 12 months left.

My estimation would be £5m to £7m, the two hamstring injuries won't be ignored despite the fact he came back from both. However my guess would be we'd get maybe 1.5m to 2.5m absolute tops if Conway goes to compensation, I don't see us potentially turning down another 3-5 mil for having him around for another year.

Steve Evans is real marmite, you either love him or loathe him. He's a straight talker but has not been without his controversies.

On this occasion his words are kind and I suspect totally genuine but some on here will not like his praise of JL and Tinnion.

I note the article referred to his rebuilding of the Rotherham squad for next season, but Evans always does that for a new season anyway. I'd be very surprised if less than a dozen new players came into Rotherham and a similar number depart.

They’ll be genuine comments and compliments…. Doesn’t stop him being an arse

After seeing several of his mates move onwards and upwards, I'm not surprised if he's had his head turned.
I'm not surprised he's stalling either. His agent will be touting around for a move, TC will probably just be waiting and weighing up his options. We all probably think he will be better staying and building his reputation here, but with rumours of Rangers and Celtic I'm not surprised he hasn't rushed to sign here.

I think we should try very hard to get him to sign , this mythical new striker may take time to settle , if we even find him.

I don't see any way Tommy signs a new deal, he's an ambitious lad and all he'd do by re-signing here would be potentially preventing himself getting a bigger move, a good season next season isn't a guarantee whereas being OOC next summer or getting a move this summer gets him that opportunity.

I read today that Smodics might be off , with a newspaper suggested fee of £20M. When we sold him, it would have had a sell on clause, and that should have rolled into his Blackburn deal/fee. So maybe there is finally a sell on fee of a decent level incoming? Unless we are still needing to raise £10m a year from sales to reduce our losses, that could be a very welcome boost.

It was 15-20 mil in the press but think Blackburn would be lucky for anything near that despite his goal scoring record. Don't think teams would want to spend more than 10-15 mil on him given he's 28 and you can add Blackburn's position doesn't seem the best while maybe not dangerous for the club while the owners can't get their money out of India, if a club with cash was able to come in and offer them 10-15 mil then its money the owners can use for general re-investment in the squad.

Newey to leave Red Bull ….watch their car go to rat shit after his departure…:laughcont:

Depends if he gets put on gardening leave or whether he sees out his deal as doesn't he have another year left? Unless he has a break clause.

15 goals - how many were penalties?…….:dunno: I get that he has to bury them  but essentially pens are a free shot at goal.

To me Conway is lightweight and misses too many one on ones. He messed one up today but got lucky and won a penalty.

    Someone has to take them...

Tommy hasn't lived up to his own standards this season but equally for the most part of the season (particularly Manning's early games) we were creating sod all for him. Last season he had the tied 3rd best conversion rate for strikers in the Championship, poor finishers don't finish with a 23% conversion rate.

I feel they are being clear by their actions but may be completely wrong of course. My feeling they don't is because they moved him on twice this season just feels like they are trying to actively sell him. There are a few permutations which will change things i.e what league they will be in. We'll see I guess. Either way we won't pay 5 million in my opinion.

Well he's not a PL player so a pretty obvious reason why he's not been in their squad this season, Hull's attacking options were ridiculous and they added to it in January, would have been so much competition for places if he'd stayed, they brought in Carvalho and then Zaroury from Burnley as well and he hasn't even been starting the last few games & Delap has only just come back from injury.

If City can get that amount for Conway then fair play but at the same time whoever pays it are mugs in my view.

How many chances did he miss today? I can think of two that a proper striker would have buried. The penalty he won and then converted was because he’d messed up another one and one and the keeper brought him down. How many pens has got this season? - they add to his tally of course.

Tommy will get a team that creates chances 15 ish goals a season in the Championship, he's 21 and seems to have come back from his injuries well, physically he also ranks pretty well in the Championship, all things that teams would be happy to pay that amount for, if he has a very good season and bags 20 for them which he'd be very capable of doing his value jumps to £15m and even if they don't go up they profit on him.

Is it on later so they can get decent coverage of the Ipswich match in?

I believe the show time shifts around pretty regularly, doesn't seem to be a big priority of theirs given how they've stripped back the content.

Thing is - we don’t know yet if there’ll be any wriggle room. Much will depend on the outgoing income. Obviously some players will be moving on, Conway possibly who’s probably our best asset - £2m for him and who knows?

Twine was unable to play as much as he’d wanted but when he did play there were definitely signs of his class and today’s performance certainly showed off that class - I was a little disappointed when he got subbed.

It'll be more than £2m for Conway, my guess £5m to £7m, one of the relegated teams (or whoever stays down from play offs) or maybe even Celtic/Rangers would pay that much for him. If it was only £2m you hold on to him and take the compensation you'd get when he's OOC as it wouldn't be far off that if not more anyway.

Wouldn't mind Rudoni or Karamoko Dembele. Both left footed which we desperately need Manning has shown he likes to play left-footed players on the right and right-footed players on the left.

The Mehmeti "chance" today was a good example of why, if he had a left-foot he might've shot rather than attempting to check back onto his right.

I'm not sure on Dembele, good player but he's very small & not entirely sure he's got the physical level in terms of running required for the Championship, equally I don't think Brest would let him go cheaply as a '26 contract as well like Twine.

If they stay up, they will want to cut losses on him. And if they come down, they will be looking to chop squad generally and cash in a bit. And who would pay 5m for him (and I say that as someone who really likes him). Assuming his market is the championship, then not many will have 5m to spend on him - maybe one of the relegated teams I guess.

We obviously can't do 5m for him; probably not even half that. But if there was a chance at a price that didnt spunk our entire budget on one player, I'd be really keen to keep him.

If they come down they'll have much bigger assests they can sell for big money, Twine with a season of Championship football & relatively low cost to them would likely still have use, even relegated teams still need squad players.

Excellent game today, looked really sharp and linked up play really well. His performance was capped off with a well taken free kick.

Manning wants to sign him and if he has a little financial wriggle room Burnley may well take far less than the inflated £5m they’ve been asking for.

An offer of £2.5m might just tempt them……….:dunno:

I thought you didn't like wild unfounded speculation
