  1. Too right. Hoping for a couple of batsmen and a 'keeper to come in for the new season. I don't know how long Allenby's contract is, but surely Cooper at least won't be retained. Hopefully we can use our overseas ticket on a very good batsman who will actually be here for most of the season. Getting Rehman was incredibly stupid given that we've Leach and then Dockrell sat on his arse for most of the season.

Cooper has a euro passport right? He'll be retained, has shown promise towards the end of the season, so another season should be in order incase it took him time to settle. As for overseas players, I wouldn't mind a seam bowler (Southee or Boult maybe if they can be persuaded), maybe a overseas keeper if we can't find a suitable domestic keeper. I do think somerset need to go for a star overseas player if just to give everything a lift. De Kock as a keeper, Ronchi maybe... Shane Watson considering player county cricket next year dare I say it.

  2. Samit Patel called up for Ansari... ffs. If you wanted a spinner who was an all rounder then go for Borthwick as he may have an England future, picking a guy who for years couldn't be bothered to follow a fitness regime to try and play for his country raises questions over his motivation for me. Or if just a spinner then Craine, Riley, Kerrigan etc to take on tour for experience.

  3. Not a great surprise but Alfonso Thomas is leaving Somerset. Clearly fell out with Maynard earlier in season I sense but sadly a shadow of his formerself in the one day stuff

Best decision in years to release him, to go at over 11 an over in T20 and expensive in 50 over cricket as well is unacceptable really and to be given max overs most of the time, it was beyond time. Great player over the years though.

  4. Hales next man to get a try, being honest I don't think he'll succeed on this tour, hasn't excelled at the top of the order for Notts, however I feel he should be kept in the side long enough to have at least 1 home series next summer. Taylor I think will excel and make the #5 spot his own.

    1. Cook
    2. Hales
    3. Root
    4. Bell
    5. Taylor
    6. Stokes (Or Wood at 10)
    7. Buttler (however Bairstow will come in if he starts badly I expect)
    8. Ali
    9. Rashid
    10. Broad
    11. Anderson

You HAVE to go 2 spinners this time, the WIndies screw up can't be dome again.

  5. Somerset's bowling hasn't been good enough for seasons, Thomas has been a poor limited overs bowler for years now always going over 9 an over pretty much. Somerset should have tried bringing in a top class seam bowler for T20 and maybe instead of Rehman or whoever is the full season overseas player.

  6. Can't make this now either, I'm also coming back from Spain on the Friday and the coach is going straight to Preston so not as if I can even get off somewhere and travel to Bristol.

Wouldn't have affected me, but the club really should have said earlier they may be moving it so people held off on travel bookings, I can understand why it's been moved because of the extra day before Stevenage which should be 3 points for us and keep us well clear but it has been poorly handled.

  7. 5212 I'd guess, not overly optimistic with El-Abd there and Osborne at wing back/right back, think we may get overrun in centre of midfield as well

    ...............................Moore..................

    ..............El-Abd........Flint.......Williams

    Osborne.............................................Cunningham

    .........................Pack......Elliott

    .................................JET

    ....................Baldock.......Barnett

  8. Pretty even game I thought however a few things for me, Williams is no left back definitely should have been Cunningham if he was fit to play or even Bryan. Drop El-Abd gave away so many pointless things, the constant rigging of shirts etc was picked up by the ref and we were lucky to not concede a penalty by him. Could be that the conditions didn't suit him but Wes didn't seem as effective as when he was a sub, still did alright though and wade Elliott was totally invisible when he came on.

Positives, as said pack had a very good game I thought, Flint played well and I thought Moloney did alright. Baldock worked tirelessly whether out on either wing or down the middle. All in all a point away when Oldham play some nice stuff is a plus.
