To be honest at that point he'd have 18 months left on his deal. I'd expect his value to drop rather than increase from £25m.
There are many unknown factors other than remaining length of contract, such as his form, luck with injuries, and the needs of bidding clubs. At his age my bet woke he continues to improve , as Will his value.
There is a strong case for keeping AS for this season.

how did we do with scott and semenyo in the team last season, as i don't remember this promotion push you keep telling us will 100% happen
By January, we would have a far better idea than current conjecture can possibly give us. We would have also enjoyed seeing our best players in City shirts, and of course made a serious signal of intent.

Makes me wonder if some clubs get stubborn and don't pay 25m and we hold onto Scott. If or how much his value could change in January,
More , in my opinion, and we will know if a promotion push is on or just a pipe dream

No they aren't, without selling semenyo who couldn't get into the team regularly I may add, as well as not lighting up the prem
None of the others would of been signed as we couldn't afford them, and if thay were the case you'd be here moaning about not strengthening
So you think we are stronger with Cornick up front than with Semenyo? Really ???

Mehmeti and Cornick not forwards?
I think you'll find the Semenyo money has been spent on those players and their wages.
Lansdown has previously said that any money the football club makes it can spend.
I'm starting to smell gas.
Mehmeti, attacking midfield/ winger, Cornick, not from what I saw, best position, journeyman possibly?

Selling Semenyo and buying Cornick, Mehmeti, Dickie, McCrorie, Roberts and Knight you mean.
Sold 1 player and made ourselves better and stronger with the money. Great business.
All unrelated and none are forwards, as you know. Apparently we needed the money to stay within FFP, so we could hardly have spent it, as we won’t this time, and next when they flog Conway at the first opportunity.

I think we accept that he is going to move on in the next 2 weeks (likely sooner).
What a fantastic talent he is, and we will always be able to say that we have him the platform, in which he excelled.
Wolves and Bournemouth (at least) are now going head-to-head for his signature. It’s now extremely likely that our asking price will be met.
Nige said a plan is in place for his departure, now let’s see how the squad shapes up at the end of the window.
We still have an incredible amount to be positive about within the club, including some fantastic young talent.
You mean like selling Semenyo and buying Cornick, , we know how this goes.

It would be wonderful, yes, if we showed that ambition/indifference to modern day football realities. It would be wonderful if football was as we wished it would be, and Bristol City were able to move about and operate within it, as if we were Manchester City. It would be wonderful if by merely showing ambition, everything would fall in to place for Bristol City. It would be wonderful if FFP was just a figment of Mr Popodopolous's festive fiscal imagination. I wish it could be Christmas every day. I wish we could just do what we did in 75/6 with Merrick and Ritchie in 2023 and the rest of the Championship took a year off and we got promoted.
Wouldn't that be wonderful?
To have ambition, to dream, to rise above the mediocre, to support a club who could actually win something. Try it sometime

There was interest but when you're in the PL and have Parachute Payments and a much laxer FFP as it was then there is little forcing a club to sell. Sure Newcastle were heavily interested under Howe in 2022 but Bournemouth needed him for promotion and once promotion no need to sell at all.
They were just about within FFP and they clearly placed faith in keeping him taking them up.
Burnley had some cash flow issues but Brownhill was deemed unsellable.
Shows their quality.
So Bournemouth and Burnley, to get promoted kept their key talent, rather than sell, despite financial concerns. Would it not be wonderful if Bristol City could for once show the same ambition .
And yes, I will continue to bang on

His communication skills were not exactly top of the tree. I now live In Sussex, during SODs reign our youth team played a cup match at Burgess Hill which is just down the road from me. Decided to go to the match with my son, we both sat in the bar, the only two City fans there, when SOD came in, wouldn’t say a word to us, a right miserable SOD
-
SOD was awful, some of the worst football I’ve ever endured

If you can play right back , you can play left back, so I don’t see this as a problem. We should also be looked at the youngsters as third place cover in emergencies.
Agree with the earlier poster, goalkeeper is the only position that concerns me as I don’t see any sort of competition to Max

I'm sure he'll improve and especially given the fact the team itself has improved and are on an even keel not as we were, fire-fighting for 12 to 18 months. On and off the pitch, youth being blooded, costs being cut, unable to replace with the ideal amount of funds..that's a tough environment let alone for young players (Scott, Bell, Conway) to properly come into. Now we have had a bit of scope to strengthen, he has two years under his belt and there is a very positive environment IMO.
Whether he would be worth more remains to be seen simply due to the nature of contracts declining in lie with as but I'd be more than comfortable with keeping for another year.
I accepted Semenyo going due to FFP concerns and it enabled us to bring some business forward but I do hope Scott if he goes is the last big sale for some time. We did some significant financial hard yards for 18 months. I just wanna see what he can do when there is some room to breathe, clearish of FFP and the squad revamped a bit as it has been..would be great.
So we agree, there is a gamble , but one we can afford to take, but this window is not the one to sell. And with Scott we have what looks to be a squad that can challenge at the top of this division.
So let’s send a message, and retain Scott, and actually go for it ️️️

True, no immediate hurry.
At what point would you start to get edgy over it, if at all? Remember he can talk to European clubs from the final 6 months of his deal to line up a free agent move if it comes down to that.
Next summer, once he has led us to promotion . There are risks with any choice, but I think he will improve with another season, and despite the shorter remaining contract period actually be worth more next year.
The gamble isn’t £25M , but the difference between that figure and next year’s value, a gamble worth taking

Scott has had a contract offer on the table for a while now hasn't he?
SL first mentioned it in January but dunno whether it was new as of then or if it had been on offer for longer.
I imagine his agent said “ hold your horses, son” , it doesn’t mean he wants to leave.

How do we retain them when they say they want to leave? Or when they run their contracts down and leave on a free?
Who has said they want to ?

Sorry to be negative but being in the Premier League doesn't mean an automatic profit. Revenue goes up, but costs do as well.
Some teams do make a profit, but plenty make huge losses, more than £100m in some cases. It's not necessarily a golden ticket to solve all financial woes. Also many of those who do make a profit still don't by selling their young talent to the big clubs.
Ultimately we do have to sell someone for something at some point. That's literally how we keep the lights on and keep away from points deductions. Semenyo and austerity have sorted us for a while, but at some point in the next 24 months we need another £10m+ sale. If not Scott then Conway, Pring, or someone else (or a combination of them) will be sold to cover us.
Sure, sell Semenyo, Scott then Conway. Please remind me why I bother buying a ticket ?
Try a smile

A supporter also wants to sign new players and not to rely on bailouts season after season as that tap could turn off leaving us in huge trouble,
While the clubs loses upward of 18 to 20 million a season then we will always have to sell our best player much like 90 other clubs in the football league (man City have been omitted and we may add Newcastle to that soon),
Take Jason Knight, one of Derby's best players, they had to sell due to financial circumstances and where we are in the food chain in relation to them currently,
Thats the same with us and Scott going to a prem club,
Or we , by retaining our best players, win promotion and make a profit each year, Negative people have a problem for every solution

In many respects you’re probably right if you take my post as black and white. I’m not saying none of it becomes available, but when I read we might get 4 players in (and in particular ones better than what we have) then I don’t see the costs of them being workable. One, two maybe.
But I’m just a fan with an opinion. You should take more notice of the actions of the club and see what happens!
A highly knowledgeable fan whom we , I think, all appreciate and whose opinion is valued.
But your prediction as to the benefits of selling doesn’t to me make any kind of sense from a supporter’s point of view

I honestly don’t think we deviate from the plan. Don’t forget under the current financial plan, we are close enough to FFP (although not a concern) and SL is bailing us out every season. If you’re looking for investment or to sell you aren’t gonna want to put money in for someone’s benefit.
So I think Scott’s money (should he go) avoids us having to get an SL bail out for 2 / 3 seasons.
I’m not saying Nige doesn’t get any if it, but I’m think one or two signings at most.
I’m sure we don’t want Zak to go for nothing next season. I suspect talks will happen if not already happening.
We might bring in a project though.
So , as a fan, there is no benefit to selling Scott unless your Uncle Steve. That neatly sums up what I have been saying.

One thought, if Scott is sold from under Pearson, will Pearson stay ?
